"Criticism Clash" Shearer vs Ten Hag: Is Rashford Being Unfairly Targeted?

- Alan Shearer has insisted his recent criticism of Manchester United's Marcus Rashford has been fair after the attacker scored his first goal of the season in Saturday's 3-0 win at Southampton. Although the forward was among the goals on Saturday, Shearer refused to back down from his recent comments, insisting his post-Brighton criticism was warranted. Speaking on BBC Match of the Day on Saturday evening, the former Newcastle United striker said: "I don't think it [the criticism] has been unfair. "He doesn't get criticised when he plays like he did today, that was much much better. So hopefully, as you've mentioned, the confidence we all know what that's like, that he's got that goal we'll see more of that now." [Manchester Evening News]

Even the Ajax fans said this before he joined, but I honestly think Ten hag is willing to come across as a delusional guy and take all the bullets for his players if he knows there's reasons for it, or if he sees that they're fully committed to the team. Once a player throws him under the bus though, he will sacrifice you like we saw with Sancho.

Congrats Mr and Mrs O'Neil. Rashford is a lovely guy and a good player. He is overhyped and talked about for some time. He is always picked and worked on at United, as a STARLET. Shearer is tried and tested and delivered all the time, where sadly, Rashford can never deliver on the standards expected.

Mainoo was being targeted by the Southampton players, they were very physical and ganged up on him in the first half. He needed more support and guidance from the senior players. That’s why he was frustrated.

Gotta add ere to the panel is Danny Murphy and Alan shearer did talk about Liverpool but made EXCUSES for them that they had players being away on international duty like salah and co for playing bad but they failed to say that Notts forest had 13 players on international duty, says it all there.
The lack of work rate and Belfast incident justifiable allows for the criticism, for me I see the player on the bench Garnacho who looks to be hungry and willing to add more to his game, Rashy has been the same player for so long

Marcus is very hit and miss. He just doesn't want to be the main character. He is lacking the drive to be noticed. He is contempt with fitting in. Be it when they are playing well or badly he will not take initiative in the team.
To be fair to Rashy he went and did those private sessions with Ryan Hopper and it seemed to pay off at Southampton.
The criticism of Marcus has been fair, he’s had a tough time at it, but let’s hope the Southampton match sparks a little fire underneath them not even that let’s hope he’s shows that he’s happy to play football for Manchester United. Many games doesn’t look like he’s having a good time out there.

As one of our star players and one of our highest earners, Rashford has a responsibility to perform consistently, and his current lacklustre form deserves the criticism. He isn't the only player under scrutiny, other top players have also faced heavy criticism when their performances haven't been good enough. therefore the criticism Rashford is receiving isn’t out of the ordinary. Also, he hasn't helped himself with antics off the pitch
The sad thing is that we all have seen what Rashford can do at his peak. Now every week we wait for him to bring that back to the pitch.

I agree with you that there should be diffence in a Pundits criticizing players vs fans doing the same. The pundits need to understand that they're getting paid for their comments and we do not so they have to maintain a certain amount of neutrality when you are talking football no matter what your past club is.
