I would put the forks and seat from the blue one, on the yellow one, and keep that one. Love the yellow with red accents.

I know I am late, but if I could only have one, it would be the blue one. Front brakes, indexed shifter, seven speeds, better tires, Brooks saddle.

That's what I ended up doing... just keeping the blue one as is and disassembling the yellow one. Thanks Bill.

Keep the blue one as is - lots of great components on that one. Switch the yellow one to a coaster brake single or a 3-speed IGH (if you have one lying around). I have a 3-speed coaster setup on a Schwinn HD and it's one of my absolute favorite bikes to run around town on. That's my vote. (And keep the videos coming!)

    • @Locojoe

Yeah I'm leaning towards keeping the blue as is and maybe build up the yellow some other time again but differently. Appreciate the input. Thanks!

Man, that is a bit of a dilemma. Personally, I like the yellow bike, but you're getting ready to build up another yellow one, and you seem to like all the parts on the blue one more. I think you have your answer already (keep the blue). IF they were mine, I'd put this drivetrain and shifter, onto the yellow one and put the Brooks on the yellow one and maybe the fork. I really like the red tires with the yellow frame. Ultimately, I'm glad it's your decision to make, because it's a tough one for sure. Take care you two!

I think the blue one looks better, too.

I’d pick what frame you want break both bikes down to just frames & prep & paint one of the frames & your choice of fork & then re assemble it & lube & clean everything with whatever parts you want on one bike. Then any left over parts save just in case something breaks you’ll have back up parts. It looks like the components on the yellow bike are better at least the crankset.

Yes from what I've witnessed these bikes used in the factories would have a plate or tabs and a plate welded in with a department number painted on it. In the past I have built up a few cruiser style bikes with what I call "tank plates". Here is one with an aluminum plate strapped in... locojoe.com/blog/2004/09/26/army-bike/

The yellow one has inspired me to do something similar. It was the first of your videos I saw.
I have variety of other bikes of different types.
If one has an issue it’s convenient to just hop on another and fix the problem on a non ride day.
Which bike do you tend to ride more often?
Which components do you wish were on when you do?
Nothing wrong with having a couple bikes basically the same color. I don’t know of a rule that requires contrasting colors except for HOA nonsense.
Maybe don’t get rid of one until after the next build.
    Then decide.
A few bikes don’t take a lot of room.
    19……
    Well that’s a different story 🤦🏻

I like blue bikes, but the yellow+red accents is more eye-catching (when the tires aren't covered with mud😀). Color aside, I think I prefer the lines of the blue bike, and you seemed to like those components better. Just hit it with some brighter paint and grips (or go the opposite direction and switch to brown grips to match the saddle).

@@josephpacheco7508 Thanks for the kind words! No I hadn't heard of that bike and just looked it up, Yeah I think that would make a good base for a klunker. Several years ago I bought a new Schwinn Low Glide which was 29 inch wheels. I had intended to make somewhat of a klunker out of it but the bike was just too big for me so I sold it. The Hammersley top tube appears to slope more than the Low Glides does so it probably fits more sizes of people.
