Me too. Penang people must oppose the doing away of this ferry service. It is a tourist attraction. Hong Kong has the Star Ferry which is a top tourist attraction and a must-do while there. The Star Ferry is still in service to this day. Those responsible for scrapping the Penang ferry must EXPLAIN to the people - WHY ? All Malaysians miss this Penang icon, especially Penangites !
These iconic ferries deserve super long service award. I truly wish that they would be renovated as floating museums or restaurants in the future as part of the Penang's heritage preservation. 🤧
Actually ferries are losing money every trip due to high operating and maintenance cost. If convert to tourism usage, can charge far higher to keep them afloat.

I remember the very first boarded one of these Pen ferry in early 76's. Those days Penang island were declared as FreePort. Queuing up by cars are real headache to board these ferries. Without A/c and cellphone to play with. Thank you Penang Port for all these Ferries services. Penang Lang won't forget.

Someone with good sense and have the authority or influence, reading this comment, please allow passengers the option to use the iconic ferry. You only need to make one roading crossing. Using the fast boat you disembark at the busiest part of Georgetown and have to make 3 to 4 roading crossing depending where you are going.

Servis feri tak berhenti la. Yang tamat hanya kapal feri sedia ada. Nanti ada catamaran yang akan ambil alih nanti, kapal sekarang ditukar menjadi tujuan pelancongan.
Key point saya ialah nilai sejarah dan status ikonik Feri Pulau Pinang dengan kapal sedia ada. Tiada yg istimewa atau ikonik dengan servis bot laju 7 minit yang akan menggantikannya. Servis bot laju yang sama ada banyak di pulau2 lain, none of which are special, let alone iconic.

I studied in Penang for three years I’m a Johorean First time taking ferry from Butterworth to Georgetown was a great memory n funny It was dawn around 6am which I just arrived from JB I followed people to the terminal n what they were doing The ferry came later, and it was Feri Pulau Kapas While on the ferry I kept asking myself is the ferry gonna go to Pulau Kapas ? I wanted to go to Pulau Pinang I was so worried but I calmed myself telling that it won’t go to Pulau Kapas as now I’m in the west coast n Pulau Kapas is in the east coast 😂😂 Then I realised that there are many Pulau as names for the ferry I really miss the ferry and Pearl of the orient
I am married to an Penang local and from the US (born and raised in California ).. I've been on the ferry many times while there visiting ...in many ways it reminds me of the historical moving monuments like the cable car in San Fransico ..why not try to make it a moving historical monument. ..just like what was done with the San Francisco cable cars...this is an moving monument that is a part of the history of Penanag and should be persevered as such. .. ....but again this might be wishful thinking. ...

As a pure penangite, really feel sad the ferry terminated by MCA of PN government, and ironically, the most vocal groups of NGOs under Penang Forum didnt make a single objection about this matter, instead their member named PeTUA openly support the iconic heritage to be replaced by second hand langkawi ferry. Obviously, these NGOs under Penang Forum are only work for PN government
Don't get confused. The ferry service is still operating. The old 47 year old rustbucket, unsafe and un-seaworthy ferries have been discontinued... replaced by newer modes of transport.

Service for cars and trucks has been terminated, and it'll be used by motorcycles and bicycles only
Rapid Ferry has reshaped its service to ferrying only for motorcycle and bike. The old ferries will be stopped using by July 2022 onwards.
