Wow. Notice how Miri Mesika gets in just an extra Arabic style flair in lines like "radio waves" at 3:14 that adds just that extra little ingredient on top of Katrina Lenk's amazing performance of this song.
It's actually her usual kind of singing. The whole song sounds so much like a Miri Messika song you'd hear on the radio. She's Sephardi, Sephardi Jews lived in Arab countries for a long time, so Sephardi music/singing is a lot like Arab music.
Despite the beauty of Miri Mesika's voice here, she has been directed -- as all performers are when an American show gets to London -- to grotesquely overact the emotions. The director here was Michael Longhurst, but it could just as well have been Dominic Cooke directing Imelda Staunton and Tracie Bennett in the 2018 London revival of "Follies," or Jonathan Kent directing Staunton in the 2015 London "Gypsy," or Marianne Elliott directing Rosalie Craig in the London "Company," or Matt Cole directing the 2022 London "Newsies" -- Brits all. Personally, I'll take Katrina Lenk's emotionally rich yet understated performance in "The Band's Visit" on Broadway any day. Chilina Kennedy, from the U.S. national tour, also sings "Omar Sharif" beautifully: th-cam.com/video/MElOrtye4LQ/w-d-xo.html
