When I was 12yo, my parents divorced and my Mum went to England. This song got me through some of the hardest times of my life. At 55 now, it still makes my eyes leak.
I have loved this song since it came out. My husband, who is a drummer and 11 years older than me, moved to England for 12 months in the early 80's. His band mate, who was obviously missing him, sent him a copy of this single when it came out. Unfortunately that mate died a few years ago and when I hear that song now I feel melancholy. Such a lovely show of love between mates in a culture that usually needs alcohol involved to share such things.
One of my all time favourites - saw them at Festival Hall in Brisbane but can’t remember who they were supporting - maybe Aussie Crawl? Was a long time ago 😂
I love this song. It kinda reminds me of post WW2, where many Australians (as a former colony) we concerned about things like did they have enough to eat in England. Ok, so this song is 35 years after the war, but it's like watching an episode of Poirot, and being immersed in the times.... Ok, other people might get something different out of it, but to me it feels like art deco would sound!!
Just so you know John Farnham does a version of this... It was on the first album of John's I got.. he did covers of all these Australian Classics! highly recommend.
Could you react to Morgan Wade - The Night (Live OurVinyl Sessions), Shes an incredible instinctive raw Talent, that deserves a bit more attention and I think you would really dig her :)

Love this song and Bon Voyage. Trying to get Little heroes cd's but they are virtually impossible to find and long out of production
A song that expresses the feeling of isolation and distance felt by someone in Australia with their love in England.
what a load of croc. im english. and that is bollocks... just saying
Very 😢…sad song but beautiful
I was 9 when this came out and I just loved it! Something about it, whenever I hear it, it just gives me give vibes of a simpler time.
Oh goodness. I bought the album on vinyl at the time. Even saw them live.
I feel old ...
One of the many songs of my childhood. Memories.

John Farnham does a cover of this song, off his “I Remember When I Was Young” album.

glad you liked the song, even though you had reservations, ?. I thing its great in every aspect, and an Aussie band, best music from the 80s. Cheers.
Takes me back ☺️
That's one from the vaults. I remember seeing them a few times in Sydney in the 80's.
An Australian Anthem
Woah, I hear David Bowie in his voice...☝️☝️🤓
Me too! I wonder if it’s a specific regional accent.
Underrated
