Lore bomb is crazy in the ep when they mentioned Shoyo. This is the real starting point imo that the watchers really realize that there are already a lot of crumbs and hints thrown here and there even during those "boring" early episodes. Most people stop watching too early due to having close-minded perspective and expecting the show to follow the same plot narration as other shonen. Most shounen always stated the general premise during the first ep like want to be the strongest, find the missing dad, want to be a pirate king, want to retrieve their original body etc, but this show is just about a grown ass dude trying to make ends meet running odd jobs while living in the reformed country after the bitter war. The continuity of the lore doesnt feel forced due to the foundation has been established even during goofy episodes and not just made up on the spot and sadly there are still those who do not experience the beauty of the show due to not be open minded enough and enjoy the show with what the story offer. Furthermore, a lot of people still think that Gintama is all about rip off parody and has no real plot and even assume that the show is "boring" due to a lot of "filler" episodes, skip em and just want to get to serious arc then left disappointed with not having in depth knowledge of what really transpired off the screen.
You can really tell from this episode alone how much Gin loved his master. The cause was lost, yet they went to war. No for some ideals, but for Shoyo.
17:36 YYYYEEEEEESSSSSSW!!!! This is one of the biggest things about Gintama, the way it seamlessly switches between funny and serious. When i started this arc i already knew it was going to be a serious arc, but when we were 1 and half episodes in and it had still been mostly comedy I was so confused considering a lot of people said this arc changes Gintama and other things like that. And then the scene happened when tsukuyo is bowing down to sadasada and then it flashes between the past and present. I'm still in shock as to how Gintama changes so quick.
Oh! He didn't say that they were the Oniwabanshu. The Oniwabanshu were the ninjas that Sacchan is a part of. They were disbanded and then Sadasada turned to *these* people instead. They're the Tenshoin Naraku! I think that part was worded a bit confusingly in the subtitles And I think Katsura's disguise that he sometimes uses that looks similar to them - I'm... pretty sure that's just a coincidence (I don't think it looks exactly the same anyway)
Watch out! One of the other commenters dropped a pretty big seties spoiler. Katsura disguises himself as a traveling Buddhist monk (Miroku from Inuyasha wears the same outfit minus the hat). The Naraku designs are also probably inspired by monks given they're referred to as a cult.

Poor gintoki, you see. Poor him
Sorachi really edged us so hard before we finally got the full backstory lmao 😭

My first time watching this I was crying for some reason, Gintoki looked so.. I dont know, I just wanted to cry for him
Gintama support!🤩
Peak this arc
Funfact : gintoki age is 27,and he joining the war 10 year ago,so gintoki join the war at age 17.
Possibly younger considering he was 17 when it ended. We don't know for how long they participated.
19:39 yeah. Sakamoto is part of the war but he wasn't one of shoyo's students
