@OnTheFlipSide Thank you!! My plan is to get funky mermaid 🧜♀️ and sea creature themed cloth and make out own table clothes to brighten and liven up the outside, white is looking more and more like the choice to do in the seats 💓💕 -Cait
Hmm, kind of easy choices. Paint the new area white and maybe white cushions, with colored covers, whose color can change as your sentiments evolve. Base colors and bright throw pillows for accent. For the aft rain fly/shade extension. Would two tracks work easier and provide proper load paths for the sun tortured materials?
Hey Kevin, We would love white cushions, but I believe our 3 yr old might have other plans for them, lol. The 2 tracks are a good idea, but it was about how we cut the fabric in order for it to fit. We have gone with cutting it to fit better as sun shades and we are very happy with it! -sam
Have ur aft sun cover looking its best when it’s up. That’s when u and others see it the most. In bad weather and it’s down won’t matter too much if it doesn’t lay perfectly. Its function in foul weather is keep rain and wind out. In good weather its function is keeping sun out and looking sharp.
Thank you, Peter! The canvas is half way finished and we will take a look at how it's come out. I like the idea of clears for keeping rain out! We will see! It's all really exciting getting the canvas done! -Cait
The only thing I can see about the helm seat is you will get a few bruised leg/thigh muscles with that sharp corner at the walkway. Thanks for the video.
You bring up a very good point and a discussion point between us plus if it's closed it might get a bit hot and stuffy in the Tropics. Super stoked with the back deck and the shade and sitting area! Thank you for your comment, I enjoyed reading it and it was a good thought! ❤️Cait
They should put a zipper in both pieces. So they can have short and straight out but nice, and then add the second piece on the botem for long down heavy weather.
I think the best solution for the rear cockpit covers is to have a second cover on a straight sail track mounted and rolled up under the awning. Just drop it down when needed.👍also the helm and seating area should be painted white. Vinyl won't last.
Great progress guys. With the back shade wall you could do two things. Have it taught with the floor and then mount the track on the arch so that it matches the floor track profile. Or have three rope tracks onto the back awning. With one rope track somewhere in between to fit either of the floor or solar arch. I think all white would look best for the seat frame. That way you can go any colour/pattern you like for the seat covers. You can get aluminium composite panels with a plastic core. That’s pre painted and east to clean just glue them on. You can cut a V in the backside and bend around the corners too.
Hello hello! Thank you, we are really pleased with how it's turned out! Our plan is solar planels! There will be new solar panels going on thw roof and they will help keep the heat out as a bonus to the solar production 😀 -Cait

Fabulous new ideas and designs, Emma James will be some extra special cat. Xx make the seat lid for fridge on hinges and a latch to hold it open. Light blue for canvas colour
Thanks for that. I am going through something similar on my 38 foot cat at the moment - designing a cockpit cover and designing a seat. Unlike your build, I have been reducing cockpit clutter. Mostly to ensure good access to sheets and for singlehanded sailing. When I look at the your permanent table I wonder about access to the starboard sheet winch. For one in an emergency when you have to run to it to release a Code 0 or full genoa sheet, or two to have someone help tail in a big wind. It has a sharp edge near the run to the winch, I reckon there will be a bruise or two bumping into that on a dark night, or when you run to the winch. I wonder if you guys are placing too much emphasis on the cockpit being a lounge area and not a sailing cockpit. My thoughts are that a little bit of water/breeze into the cockpit is fine because you do need to be fully aware of conditions. Also it allows the cockpit to be cooler. My cat is much smaller than yours and even when we lived with four of us onboard we tended to be super comfy in the cabin/hulls and have the cockpit for sailing. Getting out of the sun is great, and I hope you keep in mind access to winches, visibility, sailing accessibility, how to sheet kites etc. On our 38 footer we bought a table from Pine Doctor and plonked it on the bridgdeck floor. We never bolted or screwed it and it never moved unless we moved it. If I was in your position I would have bought a table with an extendable side and plonked it down with no fasteners so I could still run to the starboard sheet winch and not be hamstrung in gaining access. I would recommend you consider how you will singlehand the boat - how will sheets work, how will you tack. We found when sailing with two small kids that usually we were singlehanding in tandem - with one of us sailing (usually me) and my wife doing schoolwork or helping the boys. I would recommend you ensure that your modifications do not make the boat harder to singlehand. Making her easier to singlehand would be a bigger priority for me than an extra table, or drone storage. I do think your old cockpit was easier to tack, or drop a kite or sheet on a kite from. Running from the helm, to one winch, to another during tacking should be a really big part of the cockpit design - because that is what we did when cruising - tacking singlehanded when someone is tired, or can't help. I am putting serious thought into ensuring my new cockpit cover and helm station improves sailing usability. I reckon it is more important than permanently adding comfy things that can be added in minutes when at anchor. I would recommend you do not forget you will be sailing this thing when things go tricky in a squall, how have you figured access to furling lines, sheets, travellers? Keep the sailing foremost, or at least as high as other variables in cockpit design.
Hello there, Thank you for your kind advice. I understand your points and the control measure that we have dicided to use to mitigate the risks involved are as follows. When it comes to accessing the stbd sheet winch, Under normal operation we trim the sail from the outside as we find that you can see the sail better. In the case of an emergency our winches have self tailers and if more than one person is needed then we are pushing things to hard and should rethink things. Rather than run and dump sheets in an emergency I always prefer to bear away, depower and slow things down, if there is another sail up then blanket the fwd sail. With regards to reefing we use a reefing hook as we find it easier to manage single handed. With regards to the kite we have a release/trip hook on the foot that we would pull in an emergency. We have a cutter rig and furl half the Genoa before we tack as it can't get past the staysail, in essence we don't tack in the conventional way. Hope this helps my friend, everything is set up for single handed sailing. -sam
I like how the new seating is all floating off the deck for easy cleaning and that seat for the helm is going to be a nice safe space. For the canvas back layout I would make it tight on an angle so you got maximum deck space and add some spots so you can bungy it straight down if the time arises. It might just be trial and error and who knows it might just get left up on angle 24/7. For color my opinion is go white and paint /skin the table top to match the inside to make it pop and tie it all together. I still think your nuts attaching the panels the way you are but no big deal, if its an issue you can always address it later.
as for the rear canvas , my brain is not as smart and switched on as you 3 but will give it a go !! firstly I would drop it to the deck all the way around , meeting up with the other canvas on the side ... seeing as there is a curve on the corners I would put in 2 or 3 real heavy duty zips in so as to hang better and for future info if zips get stuck over a length of time always have a can of WD40 handy ... really frees the zips up .......... to close the back in by going straight out from the roof I personally think it would be a much bigger job as in more frame work to hold the corners or if only going down on the straight part and out to the davits support you wouldn't really be covering it all in ......... @@sailingwiththejamess just most Cat owners go the White, or off-white, and i do get it “the view is off the ocean and surrounds” but i always had that idea, it i had a large rear aft deck, why not compliment the blue water and white- yellow sand, and keep that theme going onto your Med inspired “back yard” complete with as many salt resistant plants like cherry tomatoes, herbs 🪴 that can be picked and BBQd with a few nice cray fish or whatever, a homely environment that Charlie can enjoy helping to create and grow, you won’t see it from the air, nor the sides from a distance, so it wouldn’t ruin the basic look of the boat, but will be soooo much kinder on your eyes over pure white and i believe will feel much cooler as well, just an idea, i definitely won’t be disappointed to see the basic white anybody has.. 😂 (sry Sam)

I'm very sorry for the misunderstanding. My English isn't very good. I meant the catamaran next to yours. It looks abandoned and in very poor condition. I definitely didn't mean your boat, which you take pride in. :) Once again, I apologize.
No worries! The one next to us is named Karma and she is an old alloy lock crkwther catamaran, her owner will be starting her big refit next year 🙌

@@sailingwiththejamess That's good. Even from a distance, it looks like a solid foundation for a project. How long will your boat be at this location? Would there be a chance to make a video of the boat, ideally with its owner? Thanks, and I wish you the best of luck!
Hey Roli! She's privately owned and the owner plans on fully gutting and refitting her. She's a beautiful boat, an older style crowther from ours.
The owners plan is to have her back out floating one day again!

Your side shades need clear plastic windows as your cutting off visibility to the sides of your cat.
I like the way you think! They've been tailored and detailed more now (video of them was in process) for fixing points and they can be rolled up, we like that feature! Definitely good to have them versatile!

Have you added up how much weight you are adding?

@sailingwiththejamess sounds very dangerous 😱. Are you sure you know what you are doing?

When your standing up at the wheel with head out of the top your Cat steering wheel needs to be larger, or with spokes on it as you have to bend down to steer not comfortable position
It's not to bad. I only have my head out when we are in close quarters. We have just purchased a new auto pilot that can be steered with a remote. I plan to have a few weeks off doing maintenance and then I'll fit it.

Need to win lotto so I can take the missus out for her first sail, we don't have much money due to me not being able to work. I'd like to move aboard a cat if we could.
I bet she will love it! ❤️
