I love the fact that Rye doesn't have chain businesses. They just want their unique, wonderful medieval feel and that is fabulous! I grew up in Seattle in the 60's when it was an individual city. Then the national chains started coming in and it became like any other city. I will say, Luke, we do have the original Starbucks at Pike Place Market. Mr. C would be good with that!
Lovely Rye is definitely worth visiting, so pet friendly and adore their attitude to unique shops! Thank you for taking us along. Glad to see you both and Maggie, enjoying your new home so much. Being vertically challenged myself, I have to agree with Zara that there should be some advantages to being shorter ........ and great bargains in the childrens department is definitely one of them. (Are childrens clothes taxed less, less VAT?! ). Whenever I watch 'Who wants to be a Millionaire?", I look at that swivel chair and think I'd have vertigo if I sat in it; is that really what it's like to be tall? Luke, you have no idea!

Omg RYE it’s the home of the novels “Mapp and Lucia”-plus they filmed both tv series there in 1985 and 2014-it’s called “Tilling by sea” in the book but the author lived in Rye and it’s a brilliant series and books -go check them out!!

What a lovely visit to Rye! I really noticed the change in the camera and sound, too. I can say that is a first. Zara, great hack. Still chuckling over you flashing the neighbors, Luke. That pumpkin bread looks scrumptious but I really miss the pumpkin butter. My mom made it from scratch (dead easy) and it is so tasty.
A lot of years ago when our son was small we spent a lovely week in Rye. We were thrilled when we arrived that the cottage we rented was in that famous cobbled street, Mermaid Street just a couple of doors away from the lovely Tudor hotel. And it showed during our first night, so it was like a snowy film set. Love the new house.xx

I'm hoping when the weather cooperates here after the holidays to maybe check out some places in my area that I either have never been to or haven't been to in ages. I went to Rye years ago on the trip to England. It is beautiful. Try reading the EF Benson Lucia and Mapp novels, the last three or four are set in Rye. (Thinly disguised as Tilling) Henry James used to live there in the same house that EF Benson later owned. It is open for certain days. Worth visiting. Thank you for the video!

Wow I have never seen Rye look so quiet! Was this a weekday? Every time I have been it's been extremley busy so much so that we couldn't get into any restaurants as they were full. The Victorian Architraves seem to have been ripped out of your bedroom. It would be lovely to get something in keeping put back in have a look at your neighbours houses to see how they would have looked originally for your house. Then maybe you can get theirs copied by a carpenter.

@@LukeCatleugh unless you have neighbors above you looking down into your windows, you could buy regular-length curtains and hang them so they cover the bottom part of the window, and leave clear glass and sunshine for the top 2-3 feet 😊
Rye is lovely. If you go again look also at Winchelsea, lovely sandy beach at Camber Sands and a really interesting but rather weird place is Dungeness.

this makes me wonder where in the uk is the best place to live. i do live near rye but never considered it to live as oldy worldy. i quite like city life but near forests for walking the dog! and cheaper than the south east

I'm looking for a new action cam actually - something I don't have to spend hours fixing in post - like I currently do with my aging GoPro footage filmed in lower light. I feel like film in flat colour mode and then correct the footage clip by clip is only way with my GoPro 9 but it's very time consuming and then still doesn't always look quite right. Even in 2.7k.

Have you checked out charity shops for curtains? I've bought some lovely ones for a few pounds in the past.
True enough.. even Ikea has some that might work in a pinch until you get going on more plans in the room.

Oh my goodness Luke we visited Rye in the summer and like you we fell in love with the town. We had the Cornish pudding and I’ve tried to recreate and I can’t 😢. We’re definitely going back next summer. It’s beautiful. Thanks for sharing x
this makes me wonder where in the uk is the best place to live. i do live near rye but never considered it to live as oldy worldy. i quite like city life but near forests for walking the dog! and cheaper than the south east

I'm looking for a new action cam actually - something I don't have to spend hours fixing in post - like I currently do with my aging GoPro footage filmed in lower light. I feel like film in flat colour mode and then correct the footage clip by clip is only way with my GoPro 9 but it's very time consuming and then still doesn't always look quite right. Even in 2.7k.
