- In 2011, James was honored by Carnegie Hall with a four-part James Taylor "Perspectives" series of concerts which included James curating and hosting the 120th Anniversary Carnegie Hall Gala on April 12, 2011. The gala fundraiser that evening benefited the education programs of Carnegie Hall's Weill Music Institute.
Sting sings the Beatles' hit, "Penny Lane", by John Lennon and Paul McCartney. The song was to be included on the 1967 Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album but was instead released earlier in '67 as a double A-side single with "Strawberry Fields Forever". Sting is accompanied by former Canadian Brass member, Brandon Ridenour, on piccolo trumpet.
Guest artists invited by James to help celebrate the history of Carnegie Hall that night included
Vince Bruce, Barbara Cook, @SteveMartin, @BetteMidler, Kevin Pollak, Dianne Reeves, @Sting, Members of Tanglewood Festival Chorus and some other surprises.

LYRICS
Penny Lane by Lennon/McCartney
In Penny Lane there is a barber showing photographs
Of every head he's had the pleasure to know
And all the people that come and go
Stop and say hello
On the corner is a banker with a motorcar
The little children laugh at him behind his back
And the banker never wears a mac in the pouring rain
Very strange
Penny Lane is in my ears and in my eyes
Wet beneath the blue suburban skies
I sit and meanwhile back in
Penny Lane there is a fireman with an hourglass
And in his pocket is a portrait of the Queen
He likes to keep his fire engine clean
It's a clean machine
Penny Lane is in my ears and in my eyes
A four of fish and finger pies
In summer meanwhile back
Behind the shelter in the middle of a roundabout
A pretty nurse is selling poppies from a tray
And though she feels as if she's in a play
She is anyway
Penny Lane, the barber shaves another customer
We see the banker sitting waiting for a trim
And the fireman rushes in from the pouring rain
Very strange
Penny Lane is in my ears and in my eyes
There beneath the blue suburban skies
I sit and meanwhile back
Penny Lane is in my ears and in my eyes
There beneath the blue suburban skies
Penny Lane

Loved this whole concert..Sting sang Penny Lane so well 👍🏼
Crushed the last note, wow!
Fun to watch must have been a great evening.
This is wonderful.
Love Carnegie Hall, but even better was Wolfes Delicatessen that used to be down on the corner of 57th and 6th Avenue.
New York will always be my home.
A place where you could enjoy a real greasy pastrami sandwich on some really delicious rye bread.
Go Brandon. Thank you for a great tune and for recognising the work of the stage crew.
😎☮💞🎶
I've worked in stage crew and being remembered is always appreciated.
Loved that last vocal slur and what awesome pitch on the piccalo and backing singers. Tight and tidy.
James Taylor I appreciate you. I was just talking to a bloke from Newcastle, a Jordy boy and singing him Sailing to Philadelphia as I waited for the bus...after playing Sting's 'That's Not The Shape of My Heart' on my La Patrie.
What a treat to hear two of my favourite composers and musicians play a Beatles tune.
I'm grateful.
wow
JT and Sting. Legends both
😎👍❤🖖
Love brother
Mr. Taylor sang at PNC, NJ.
He is Yo Yo Ma...Perhaps they were looking for me at Davos.
No way! Sting had fun! 🙂
Brandon Ridenour!!!!!!
Wow, Hats of to the guy playing the Piccalo Trumpet & although you didn't see him :Michael landau Guitar"
Cool, an Englishman in New York... 😄
Sting sings it well but a Geordie singing about a fond love and memories of Liverpool is like a Turkey singing ‘I wish it could be Christmas every day’.
Needed to be a Scouser really but a current singer from Liverpool who the Carnegie Hall audience would have heard of? Now that is a problem? Ok, I see why Sting got the Gig!.
It is impossible to do a bad version of this genius song.. McCartney can write better than any of them... And there are some great great writers out there...
Anyone welcome by JT is automatically welcome by me... 😊
Elvis C does a better version. Much Better.
