As a 7 year old kid I used to gaze in the windows of my PE teachers XR3. It was in a car park of dusty Datsuns, manky Maxis, and clapped out Cortinas. It was like nothing else around. The alloys, the dash, the steering wheel and that rubber spoiler!! It looked amazing to a group of kids and a few of us got to go in it to the local sports track one day. THAT car started my love for cars. I’ve owned a fair few and RS models and loads of other stuff but I will always remember that car and how it used to sit there on those unique clover wheels and me thinking one day I’m having one of those cars! Happy days.
Urgh I absolutely love the XR3i. Those wheels are iconic. My grandad had three as I was growing up, I fell in love with them, watching my favourite person working on these in absolute awe, I have been a fan ever since. That's an immaculate vehicle man, I'm very envious. It's gorgeous.
Bang on video Jamie. Hero car for me as a kid. Being an 81 child, this is one of the cars I lusted after. Everyone gets obsessed by power and 0-60 nowadays. I'm obsessed by coolness and noise nowadays. Getting older is a privaledge 😃😃😃
Really cool XR3i but I would definitely put a bigger exhaust and ditch the pea shooter red is by far the sweetest colour but they look 👀 nasty once the sun has had a go leaving them an orange shade this one is kept in the garage and loved due to there huge price tags
Iconic car and great video buddy. What a beautiful place the Isle of Wight. My s1 and my 16i lived on the island at some part of there lives. I’d love to take them back one day
I had a 1982 XR3i back in the early 90's. It was rusted underneath but it was the dream machine. I resprayed it and it looked great in the original Sunburst Red. GTW495Y I think
Excellent video, you have really inspired me to push with my business ideas, I really respect what you have achieved and so glad you managed to break free and become successful and now sharing your tools to help others, one of the best TH-cam channels ever..!
Hard to tell on my screen, but i would guess that is the later Rosso Red rather than Sunburst Red. Being a November '84 reg. it was right on the changeover from Sunburst to Rosso. The blue piping on the seats and later headrests also suggest this to be a '85 Model Year car in Rosso. I had one identical but on a C Reg. The '84 Sunburst Red cars would have come with red piping on the seats and the earlier bigger headrests that went up at the sides. The rear Escort XR3i decal on the tailgate should be red from the factory, too. Great video.
Deffo sunburst, more orangey, Rosso red was deeper red and would of gone pink by now🤣 My first car was a grey, graphite i think xr3 DBU 21Y never forget the plate, and went on to have another 4 of them including the 130bhp edition that came out 86/87 if i remember rightly
As a 14 year old I always wanted this ahead of the mk1 GTI Golf. Golf was rated as the better car but I felt these looked the business. So iconic for anyone who grew up in the 80s.....
Absolutely stunning!! I was a 13 year old drooling over seemingly impossible to insure totally out of my league XR3i's, my step dad laughing at me telling me I'll never earn enough to own one. At 18 inhaf my first 85 XR3i and then later an RS1600i and then an 87 XR3i. Well worth the IN10 when I got caught once 😂😂 The 90s were good 👍
This is one of my dream cars Jamie, back in 1992 I got my first job and managed to save up £700 for my first car, which turned out to be an XR3i lookalike in the same Radiant Red as the one you drove here. It was actually just a 1.3L with the XR3i alloys, bootlid & spoiler and some interior trim, but I absolutely loved it and even remember the reg plate A506WTN. I remember thinking what it must have been like to have an actual XR3i, how fast it must have been- even though they're not! Thanks for this brilliant video, you've made my day 🙂
Bought my 1984 xr3i in 1995 for £300 straight after my 1.6L escort. Driving up the road for the first time, I remember thinking that if feels like my old 1.6L had its brakes half on all the time, because the injection system made the engine so lively in comparison
Reminds me of my youth as I lived on the island from 1970 to 2007 and had the following, XR3, XR3i, RS 1600i, JPS Ford Capri, 1600 sport Escort mk2, Ford Capri 1600s, Ford Capri 3.0s then my final car on the Island Capri 280. I then moved to London to start my career
Nice bunch of cars I know I’ve had a fair few 3i’s in mk3 and 4 variety to the point I can’t actually remember how many! At least 6 not including ones I part shared with mates. They were such throw away cars back in the day and were so readily available for a few hundred quid .
@@JamieFYD Yes Grew up on the Island lived in Ryde then Godshill went to School in Ryde as well! I remember the years well especially going to the scrap yards across the island and grabbing the spares as there was an abundance of parts to be had at many scrap yards Cowes, Ryde, Rookley where you used to be based ! Great years and great fun !
I think that was the best upload for TH-cam ever it was emotional my dad had a white one and I test drove a black one as my first car but I got a 1300 because I thought I wouldn't be able to afford it now I drive a BMW and still wish I was driving that car 🤣
My father and stepmum in law lived in Godshill for about 8 or 9 years nice to see it show up in one of your videos :) Love the Old Ford’s one day I’ll have my own
Wish I still had the black C reg I had in the late 80s/early 90s. They were tough cars, as a few years earlier I survived a head-on collision in my W suffix XR3.
I myself owned a black XR3i mk3 back in the early 90's, not the best example as anyone who owned a Ford from this era knows they suffered terribly with tin worm and mine was no exception, but having welded all problem area's and a replica S1 body kit later and on 15's she was back out mile munching but this time in white ?? (It's what all 18 19yr old kids did back then - MAX Power shows anyone???) But what a mint example Jamie 👏 👌 👍
@@JamieFYD too right had a red 1.4L E reg for £800 in 1998 E662HRT, then a Black 1.6i ghia for £300 B331UKE and a £100 XR3 on an X didn’t have it long as was rotten floors. Just paid a fair amount more for my Strato Silver RS1600i. Then have a Tesla P85D for a daily 😂😂
Mate I’m so glad to see your back replying to comments😁, good on you mate, such a good video this pal, as stated above it was such an easy watch!..love an XR3i, keep it up pal💯
I owned a white 1982 XR3i which had blue seat piping. The red XR3is normally had red seat piping, so I think the interior of this example has been swopped out.
Nice car brother had one 👍 in 86 when I was 11 and he picked me up from secondary school and I thought it was fast 😅 he got me into xr3i had two and I am a st fan now 👍 just don't see many xr3i now and I would love to own one again 🤞
My mate bought a shed of one in about 1995 in a metallic blue SOE 333Y for £500 We went to Blackpool in it for the weekend from the midlands with a whacking great hole in the exhaust..No licence between us and all four kipping in it on the seafront after a day on the lash!!..Happy day's
I had the exact same car back in the day in silver, and although I don't own one anymore, I'm still eating ice creams lol. Nice video Jamie, and an equally nice shirt fella 👍
this was a very nice car to drive at the time ,mine was the 1600RSturbo but had this one for 6 monthes in metalic grey with the regular stickers on the car, this maybe was painted and the graphics weren´t available
When 70's & 80's old fords were silly cheap I was lucky enough to have a MK1 escort mod saloon race car, a built myself MK2 rs2000,a XR3 '81 X plate carbed 4 speed and a series 2 '86 RS turbo, humble brag as all were bargain cheap but cool imo to have all 4 as well as another 8 old bangers/future classics at the same time
Jamie that 3i looks so much more cool than that Tesla imo. What’s the music you use on the start of the video.? You used it on my series one video too C622FYC 👌👍
