    hi, but what happend when the 2 first are on but the 3erd is blinking?

    • @HumbleIdeas
      @HumbleIdeas  6 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      That's not covered in the manufacturer manual. However from my experience, I actually did encounter a case where the Leds blinking happens when I was checking an extension sockets strip using the Habo tester . On thorough investigation, and opening up the sockets strip , I found that the Live wire connecting to the socket has been corroded. The copper became greycolor and quite brittle. Perhaps you may check your wiring quality too for your case.

    What does mean of the 35mA RCD? It measures tripping time?

    • @HumbleIdeas
      @HumbleIdeas  ปีที่แล้ว

      No the device spec of >30 mA is the current trip value of leakage. Not trip time. Anyway this tester is mainly for connectivity checks and bad wiring checks not much for measuring leakages

      @@HumbleIdeas thx for your inf. It just displays 30mA when it is supplied?

    • @HumbleIdeas
      @HumbleIdeas  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Kowloonhongkong ah I understand your question now. Its strange why the tester seem to display a leakage current of 36mA. I'm checked another socket is same 36mA. Let me find the manual, it's in one of my cupboards. I will get back to you soon.

    • @HumbleIdeas
      @HumbleIdeas  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@KowloonhongkongHi! I'm just found the manual. It said that the indicates panel display "36mA" is just informing that the setting is being set at 36mA (this cannot be changed) and any earth leakage exceed 36mA will trip RCD in the house. It does not actually measure THE leakage current which is zero or very near zero for a healthy house. Thanks for interest in this demo, do Like and Share it if you find it useful and sub my channel 😀

      @@HumbleIdeas Thank you. I was confused why an RCD mA was shown. (I thought that maybe it showed the result of the previous test.) The number does change but I don't know why. Maybe calculated based on the voltage?

      Yes.. but I am still confused by the test button for RCD as mentioned, hahaha 🤣

    • @Loki-vp4in
      @Loki-vp4in 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@HumbleIdeas I watched another video. The test button is supposed to trip a GFCI or RCD breaker because it leaks current to the ground when the current on the hot is not equal to the current on the neutral . I have not received my tester yet. My house does not have a GFCI breaker. Therefore, I cannot test it.

    • @HumbleIdeas
      @HumbleIdeas  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Loki-vp4in As the design of this device is based on UK sockets, and rfci (RCD) function is NOT embedded in sockets (unlike in USA ) I still think it does not make sense to test RCD function upstream at the DB, when I fact this device is labelled a SOCKET tester. Accidentally press of the RCD test button will black out the WHOLE HOUSE because in British Standards the RCD is centrally located at the DB upstream. That's why in the video I disables the RCD test button by slicing off the rubber. If I want to test the RcD in the DB I will go to the DB and press the test button THERE. 😁

      @@HumbleIdeas Should it not just trip the GFCI/RCD breaker associated with outlet under test instead?

    • @HumbleIdeas
      @HumbleIdeas  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Loki-vp4in usually in the UK or Commonwealth countries using the BS electric distribution systems, one RCD will control half dozen or more independent MCB rings. .so if the RCD fails, multiple rings will go down. As mentioned, a socket tester is meant to test the socket and not venture into components outside the socket as it will lead to some confusion as to what is good and what exactly is bad.

    Hi! What happens if you pressed RCD test and you dont have an RCD? I'm not knowledgeable about electricity, I purchased a socket tester to check my wall sockets and i pressed the rcd test button.

    • @HumbleIdeas
      @HumbleIdeas  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Is your house very very old? Practically all houses have RCD or ELCB. It is important because without RCD you will not be protected from electric shocks in case live wire is in contact with metal part of appliances. RCD ensures that the protection will always be available.

    • @damakmen34
      @damakmen34 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@HumbleIdeas kind of yes. We have circuit breaker but no rcd. So nothing bad really happens? when I accidentally pressed RCD test I went and turned off our breaker for a bit then turn it on.

    • @nomestoni
      @nomestoni 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Nothing bad if you press the button shortly. If you press it for very long (several seconds), some (cheap) socket testers could be burnt. But in any case nothing bad will happen to your house or installation.

    • @HumbleIdeas
      @HumbleIdeas  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@nomestoni I know there is nothing bad. However the house power will trip ,it just shows that the protection works. But there is little point in this action, as mentioned, if I wanted to check the RCD I just go to the DB and press the button of the RCD to test it.

    Neutral and ground are connected where i live

    • @HumbleIdeas
      @HumbleIdeas  ปีที่แล้ว

      That connection is at the DB I'm thinking? Will GFCI trip if neutral and earth short at the downstream sockets?

    • @mar-tin702
      @mar-tin702 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HumbleIdeas yes they are connected at the DB , GFCI compares phase and neutral current and if a slight difference between them it trips ,for example i touch the metal part of a device which has a damaged insulation of the live wire ,a small current will pass through my body and GFCI will sense the difference and trip immediately

    • @HumbleIdeas
      @HumbleIdeas  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mar-tin702 in that case I think the socket tester in the post should also work at the downstream sockets I think despite that the connection is established at the DB. The pin incompatibility with the American style socket is a different issue. I am sure you have socket tester for American style outlets too right? The device in the picture is designed for UK sockets.

  • @nomestoni
    @nomestoni 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I disagree that the RCD test is redundant. If you have a short (or reverse?) between ground and neutral, the socket tester might not detect it, but the RCD button will detect it. (It will not trip therefore something is wrong).
    It would also trip when you connect anything else, though.

    • @HumbleIdeas
      @HumbleIdeas  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for your comments. Firstly there is no RCD inside the tester. The RcD is a fairly robust spring loaded chunk installed upstream in the DB. It's very important to protect lives, if RCD fails, it means that futurely any earth contact with Live will kill the person touching casing of an appliance. For this reason RCD manufacturers recommend monthly checks on the RCD itself, using a build-in test button in the RCD case. In practice nobody I know bothers with this advice, coz RCD seldom ever fails , it is so reliable!. In the extremely rare event when RCD in the DB can't detect earth neutral fault, then I agree totally that this Tester button will be helpful as it offers a check on that. However this is extremely rare and one is better off testing the RCD function in the DB using the RCD test button directly as recommended by manufacturer of RCD.
