Devil's Lake was formed during the last Ice Age, approximately 12,000 years ago. It was created when glaciers blocked the ancient river valley, leading to the formation of a lake in the resulting basin.
In 1911, Devil's Lake State Park was established, making it one of Wisconsin's oldest state parks. The park was created to preserve the natural beauty and recreational opportunities of the area.
