      I followed his advice and just practiced, it's easily my most attractive work, both figuratively and literally.
      His instruction is exceptional.

    I love everything about this fly. Your approach is always creative. IThis fly is fun to tie, and fishes well. In my local waters I like to add a bit of weight to it. Seems the water is always a bit quick or deep. I use lead wraps or a bead head and never get skunked.

      One of my favorite spots to fish the Pheasant Tail Nymph is fast enough that I have to tie a few with both bead heads and extra weight! lol It's quick water, but well worth the extra preparation!

    My son has been trying to tie this but he can’t find the right hooks for this pattern. We had some basic carp hooks and we don’t know what kind of fly hook to buy. Any help would be greatly appreciated! (I got him your book for Christmas!)

    • @Thefeatherbender
      @Thefeatherbender  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Oliver, good to hear from you. Yes what he needs is any nymph hook that is a 2XL ( 2 extra long shank) this style of hook will give you the possibility to make the extra long body needed for this pattern and many other nymphs. You can tie this nymph on many hook sizes, to represent many different natural nymphs. But as your son is a new beginner I would suggest that he starts with a size 10 or 12. He should also pay particular attention to the material proportions with regard to the hook size. Happy new year and good luck, if he needs anymore help don't hesitate to ask.

    Excellent tying Barry as always. I always learn from your "foundation" & techniques as you build every fly you tie. I started tying on #8 hooks to learn and stuck with that size for lots of nymphs and wet flies. Thank you! I harvested three pheasants last year and I'll be tying my PTs like yours.

    I bought your book and then watched this video using the qr code. They are not the same. In your book (step 5 and 6) you wrap your tail fibres for the body but in this video you cut them and added more pt for the body. Aren't they supposed to be the same? Otherwise...great videos and great book 😊

    • @Thefeatherbender
      @Thefeatherbender  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you for making me aware of this. I have four books out with QR codes and this is the very first time someone has pointed out a mistake. I'll look at this. They should be the same but some times when I do the video or the stills I loose track a little. Can I ask which book you have. I am actually writing my 17th fly tying book now, out later this year.

    The disadvantage I find with using pheasant tail fibres for the nymph tail is that when you get weeds and debris on the fly it doesn't take much wiping clean and the nymph tail is gone. Those fibres are not very strong like moose mane and such.
