To me figureskating is a SPORT - that means Quads and spins and lots of them! Having a good artistic expression is a bonus but if I just want to see someone dance and do single jumps I can go to holliday on ice Zzzzzzzz. IF you want to do ice dancing, then lets make a new event like they do with pairs. Here we have ice dance with no jumps/spins and pair skating with lots of jumps, spins, lifts etc.. Lets do the same for the solo skaters. Solo Dance and Solo Skating.
This is not the 1st time this was brought up. Already when Yuzuru attempted it, some pro already said the A4 didn't worth it as score is low., And risk of injury is high.
I wish the isu held a couple jumping competitions. I would be fun to have a seperate situation where lots of difficult jumps could be appreciated without having to be intergraded and possible hold back a regular program. Skaters could leave their hardest jumps for those competitions and for regular competitions they focus more on having balance and performance.
Yes. I think creating a separate jumping competition from "figure" skating is the better way to go. Figure skating should balance between technical and artistic elements.
Valid point: "sport or show?". I'm always in awe of those Quad jumps when they're successful. Ilia's Quad Axel is phenomenal. I feel that the ISU don't know what to do with the Quad Axel yet and they drag their feet to re-evaluate it. Hope by next year, the Quad Axel will get its proper, worthy score.
Łyżwiarstwo to jednak sport więc bardziej cenię skoki. Wydaje mi się, że to trudniej osiągnąć i więcej pracy kosztuje. Stronę artystyczną można pokazać na pokazach i show.
I do agree that the quad axle should be given more points. However, as a spectator, I much prefer presentation. Whenever they talk about Jason Brown, the commentators mentioned that his artistry and edges are comparable to doing a quad jump.. as I am a dancer, and not a skater I do not know if this is true. Hanyu is the greatest skater he can combine, quad jumps, and his beautiful artistry. I am going to see stars on ice and I am looking forward to seeing Jason Brown not Elliot.
i remember when Isu dowgraded the quad jumps because Yuzuru and Nathan were the only skaters who could constently lad them I thought it shameful. I als think they should reevaluate spins and give them a little boost.
ISU does not have scores for 5 turns (5T, 5S) jump yet, not sure why to bring this up - especially for Ilia - he still make mistakes in 4S, why bother to think about 5S? He did 6 quads (including 4A) in the world, but only get 288.xx, behind Shoma Uno and Junhwan Cha, far from Nathan’s 340 points 5 quads program. He need to think how to make his quads consistent and increase his GOE scores - I don’t think he got high GOEs in the world. Otherwise he had won. His has room to improve his PCS and even spins or moves - both Shoma and Junhwan did better job on these. I was surprised by Junhwan’s performance - his skate is very smooth and eye pleasing to watch. His Ina Bauer is impressive! Anyway, Ilia need to think adding these 5 turns jumps helping him much. The judges already told him what they think about him by the scores - he needs to improve the quality of his program.
It's called figure skating because before 1991 we used to have to do compulsory figures - patterns on the ice based on the shape of the number 8 with various turns in them - threes, double threes, brackets, rockers, counters and loops and often with changes of edge. Let's stop this silly nonsense that the "figure" in figure skating has anything to do with artistry, it's because of our former compulsory figures.
Why not if he can do complex jumps + beautiful steps sequences with emotion (i think this is what they called artistry), jump quick and do some artistry. His spins are very good quality already.

Jumps-only contests already exist in the US and Russia, they're fun to watch but they're more or less a show of one technical element.
ITS Athletic FIRST that's why it's in the Olympics SEE.
That would be awesome!! - We actually used to do such a competition on artistic rollerskates, with me bringing my delayed double axel :)
I agree completely! I can't understand the stupidity of ISU... Come on! 4 Axel for God's sake!

May be they should consider having skate jump competition.

訂正ですが、ネイサンの340点を叩き出した時の4回転の数は4本です。恐ろしい😂
Yes, Jason can score but his scores can never beyond 100. Thus, you need to have a balance of both. Thus, it is called figure skating.

@@npe1 bring back the compulsory figures and see how people do!
0.84 cm height, it is impossible for others !

He has all the quads...switch focus to artistry and presentation.
