14:38 Hearing Kid Rock shout "I love black people" in his usual rocker voice and then a guitar riff plays cracked me up to coughing. It's like an SNL skit.

Gen X metro Detroit here. Kid Rock is a rich boy from the exurbs. Grew up in a mini-mansion with a 5-car garage, separate guest house, kidney-shaped in-ground pool, horse stables and a tennis court -- in a completely different county than Detroit.
His childhood mini-mansion in Macomb county sold for $1.3 million in 2019.
His father owned a Lincoln-Mercury car dealership.
His "straight out da' trailer" schtick is as fake as it gets.
Eminem is the actual working class Detroiter.

@@DestinyKiller -- Yes, growing up in a blue-collar/working class family, I didn't have a cabin or lake house to go to "up north" like my friends whose parents had middle class white-collar jobs.
And the times my family did save up enough money to take a vacation up north, we pooled funds with at least one other set of aunts and uncles and cousins, and rented some stranger's lakehouse up north for a long weekend, with the grown-ups sleeping on the beds and couches, and the kids on the floor in sleeping bags.
It was a 3 to 4 day excursion at the most, with a good chunk of it spent driving to and from -- and wasn't anywhere NEAR "all summer long"

@@calmbbaerI mean, my dad is a Baby Boomer and he got a participation trophy for Little League back in the '60s. His parents' generation was the Silent Generation, so I guess they're the one to blame? Really, though, I think the real source is parents of any generation living vicariously through their kids and not being willing to accept that their kids have different interests and strengths. The form it takes may change, but I think that kind of self-centered parenting has been around forever.

Conservative economists --- well, Austrian school economists --- think inflation is driven entirely by money creation in the central banks. i.e. it's deliberate (because they redefine the word 'inflation' to exclude any other causes). So I think what he's getting at here is that by increasing minimum wage and inflation at the same time that there's a deliberate attempt to exclude hard-working Americans yadda yadda. Either that or he doesn't know what he's talking about and is just stringing together phrases he doesn't understand.

The band Monster Truck were seen as CanCon darlings throughout the 2010s on mainstream rock radio. Hell even the original song of Don't Tell Me How To Live was a hit.

So Kid's victim-blaming by calling them basically a slur + acting like they have agency + responsibility in this situation.

Yeah, Eminem, the dude who made cringe Anti-Trump freestyles (not cringe because of the politics, they were certifiably really corny) and whenever he gives his thoughts seems surprisingly progressive, is the one who's turn red? Also the whole point of Em reviving Slim was to essentially tell people that he hung it up for a reason. Slim Shady being edgy isn't really edgy anymore. It's actually closer to an old, out of touch man (which means it's actually way closer to making fun of the right and people like Kid Rock than laughing with them).

Not even try them all, it's always "move to country." There seems to be this idea that if you can if you can get it good with country fans, they'll sustain you as an act of political spite with the same sort-of knee-jerk "trigger the mainstream" contrarianism that MyPillow banks on with its "trigger the libs" contrarianism (Seriously, I caught one of his commercials the other day, he barely even mentions the pillows themselves anymore, it's all "cancel culture is after me, buy my stuff for FREEDOM!")
The ground is littered with the carcasses of companies that have tried that maneuver and failed (Chick-Fil-A seems to be the only one that's actually pulled it off.)

Monster Truck performed at a lacrosse game I attended a year ago. They had this mini-stage on the back of a trailer being pulled by a pickup truck, and my sister & I were seated right above their entrance. She asked me if I ever heard any of their stuff before, because she didn't know who they were. I told her, "The only thing I really know about them is they did a song with Kid Rock about conspiracy theories or something... I still don't really know what to think of that." I happened to notice someone looking at me out of the corner of my eye. I thought it was the band's guitar tech... until they started pulling the stage into the middle of the arena, and he wasn't staying behind.

If every conservative was like that they certainly wouldn’t be good, but the right would be a lot easier to deal with as someone on the left, because guys like that are generally not actually engaged in politics beyond facebook memes.

I also think it's weird to fixate on. It's extremely normal to find a way to include people in organized activities & participation is necessary for everything from fundraisers to track meets. Participation gifts are simply free merch for helping something happen that wouldn't happen if people did not PARTICIPATE.
There's something vile in the way the rightwing is trying to make concepts like "not being a greedy sh-theel" bad, somehow. Inclusion is normal + good. Thanking people for their help is normal + good. Participation in everyday activities, sports, civic + social events etc is normal + good. It's weird they want to demonize things like treating others with dignity + respect.

Fun things about Kid Rock that I learned researching him for a video:
-Devil Without A Cause outsold both NSYNC’s debut album and Britney Spears’ “Oops I Did It Again” album
    - He namedropped Trump in one of his songs as early as his first album in 1990
    - His dad owned a bunch of car dealerships in the Detroit area so he grew up super rich
    - The Polyfuze Method is surprisingly pretty good production-wise
    - He owns the rights to his independent back catalog and refuses to make those records available
    - His rap style has stayed basically unchanged since the beginning of his career. It’s actually kind of impressive he was still rapping like it was the 80s at the turn of the century while being one of the biggest acts in the world

I guess people in their younger adult years at the time still preferred hard rock over cute boy band stuff that they never asked for (so many teen-angst rock bands in the middle of the 90s and the boy bands come in out of nowhere for the girlies and the little kids and take over EVERYTHING like we had nothing to do with the 90s _at all)._ This was before we knew what a politics even was, like we didn't even care, we were busy being young and free.
