I remember a time when the police's main concern would have been stopping members of public from harming them. I guess when I first went to this location during the Silver Jubilee in '77 the WW2 veterans would have been about my present age. They wouldn't have taken the insult lightly.

These "soldiers " are there for public entertainment which they and the cops provide daily. Obviously, after watching these videos for days, this is the duty of the guards and horses. Entertainment only. Sad really.
All the police ever seem to do is stand together talking about god knows what and watch as tourists disrespect the guards. a couple of regular police I know help but the impression most of the police at horse guards gives is that the police see it as a nice but of policing nothing to taxing on the brain.
