THIS was Romania’s true top talent of that team. Clean landings, beautifully executed choreography and leaps, beautiful form on balance beam. If not for the injury in team finals and some very questionable scores, she’d have blown away Ponor. What could have been.
in the AA qualification she was top 2 or 3 as well. So she could have possibly snatched at least a silver for the AA I think with Svetlana underperforming that night
disagree, in QF and TF Ponor scored higher than Ban on FX and BB. Ban's arabian double front has clear leg separation which probably cost 0.1 and was the main difference between her and Ponor's score. On BB in QF ban scored 9.625, Ponor scored 9.775 while in the TF it was 9.512 and 9.762. The way that Ponor performed her routines just ticked all the boxes under that COP
@ and Ponor had absolutely ghastly tumbling form herself on a couple of her runs- particularly her twisting form- that should have been taken into account but wasn’t. In terms of being more aesthetically inclined, cleaner in overall form and having more variety on beam in particular THIS was their best. It’s exactly why in later years Ponor stopped being as successful on floor in particular. Ban- had she kept going- would have been more likely to continue to succeed as that little form break was easy to correct.
Agreed. So much better, so much cleaner in the tumbling as well as clean dance than her teammate. It’s a shame she got hurt in team finals, I’d have far rather seen THIS win gold.
it's so interesting that during QF quite a lot of floor workers hit their routines had all their difficulty credited. B as the competition continued the errors piled up and downgrades became more and more common, to the point where only 3 out of 8 FX finalists had a 10 SV. Somehow Ban only scored 9.43 in the TF on FX

@@MsJubjubbird agreed. At least she did get that one gold medal with her team.
