Since you enjoyed Perdido Street Station, you may be interested in Jeff Vandermeer who also writes Weird fiction and has co-edited a couple of Weird anthologies with his wife, Ann. I can't believe a history book without citations! I took some medieval history courses at university and cannot imagine handing in a paper without referencing sources.
