I too agree with someone’s comment. Great Coverage! Your providing an Outstanding coverage and descriptions. Especially with the maps. Thank You! It is deeply appreciated.
I discovered your channel during the Caldor Fire when our home in South Lake Tahoe was threatened. Your coverage was and still IS exceptional. Your factual and non-sensational visuals and commentary are essential and valuable and I’m sure you’re helping so many people get through this awful experience again. Keep up the great work - I will always be so grateful.
Thanks for sharing. It looks like you have both a passion and the talent to put together the various technologies to visualize what’s happening on the ground. Kudos
I have family that live on PCH in Malibu and literally across the street from big rock to Santa Monica. The houses on the beach side are gone so far my brother’s house on PCH is safe but the houses six stores down south of him are completely gone.
I love maps and mapping. So I am on your site. I know the san gabes and the front range which includes the mt wilson area. Lots of hiking there way back. The extreme dry winter we are having in SoCal is creating conditions for the fires to spread more easily. fairly dense populations in Altadena/pasadena in the flatlands below the front range. Not quite as well off as the folks in the palisades or malibu area, which comprise mainly the LA elites.
Zeke. Could you put north orientation arrows on your maps and pictures to help your viewers keep up with what they are looking at? It is great that you can spin perspectives to help us understand what is happening. But it is easy for us to get lost in the process.
No, not at this time. The major studios are in Burbank, Culver City, the Hollywood flats. The studios I’d worry about are Universal, which is in a potentially vulnerable location - the Hollywood Hills, and Warner Brothers, which is nearby, but not in the hills like Universal
Reports of limited to no water in the hydrant’s does anyone have confirmation on that, being that the area is well financed you would think there would be plenty of water.
One problem with these fires is new housing tracts are being built more and more in areas which reach into mts or rural areas which are more prone to fire dangers. Folks love to live in bucolic areas close to woods and nature but when fires hit they lose homes. I see this everywhere in socal in the recent housing boom and in past home building boom and bust cycles. Maybe ppl should be crammed into dense urban cities like the gov't bureaucrats want and leave the outer natural parts of CA untouched. However if you believe in private property rights and less gov't intrusion this would be wrong.
The fires we are witnessing here are not wild fires. Wild fires are fires that happen in the wild lands, forests etc. This area is not a forest or unpopulated land. Please rephrase your terminology
And even fires in wild lands may not be wild fires. Often, they are the result of arson. So they should be called arson fires, such as the fire in Chico that started at Bidwell Park, when an arsonist set his mother's car on fire and rolled it down an embankment. Even though it eventually spread to wild lands, it was still an out of control arson fire.
Pool or portable pools filled up days in advance of predictable high wind days with portable fire pumps to douse the embers before it can ignite is important if you want to save your home since these man started fires are started like clock work during high wind Santa Ana conditions that used to never be a problem in the 70’s and 80’s. We had high fuel and wind back then but not the same fire bugs that we have today starting these fires.

Even though California offers one the ocean, mountains & nice weather, I don’t think I could live with any peace of mind worrying about the outbreak of wildfires destroying my home & throwing my life into chaos.

I agree. If one more person ignorantly refers to these fires as "wildfires" I am going to scream. This is how dumbed down the population has become.
So, are they tame fires?
Domesticated fires that obey the wind, it’s the wind that is WILD
And even fires in wild lands may not be wild fires. Often, they are the result of arson. The last time this area burned was in the 70's, so ......
@ Was it a yearly occurrence like clock work, I don’t think so. The fires were never this consistent.
There were major fires in the 1970s and the early 2000s.
