I like to think that Ian doesn't have tape measures in his house, just various guns. Like he needs to install a chain-link fence so he goes to the hardware store and asks for 35 M1 Garand’s worth of fence.
You can tell by the tone of his voice at the end that he REALLY hates this thing. Flies right past disgust and straight into blatant sarcasm.
"The Techno Arms Mag 7, when nothing else is even conceivably near!"
Why would someone intentionally make a for-grip slam into the trigger guard?
@@dominicksmith4784 At a guess, I'd say that they designed the slide without the flare at the back and found the the plastic was smooth enough that the hand would slip off the slide grip, so they put added the flared section to improve the grip, and then didn't want to lengthen the gun to stop the slide overlapping the trigger guard. Of course, now my namby-pamby liberal British brain is wondering why they wouldn't just add some texture ribs to the slide instead, like on just about every other pump action ever, but what do I know.
Alternatively, maybe users in South Africa keep their fingers inside the trigger guard, so it isn't a problem in the primary market?
I've never seen a south African gun that didn't make me think "what the hell is that"
MAG-7: *has a stock and extended barrel*
CS:GO players: *Wait that's illegal*
Also weird it uses smaller shells IRL but has bigger one round dmg in game than auto 12ga
@@keithsimpson2685 That's obviously for balance, you don't want a pump action doing less damage than an automatic.
"MAG-7, when nothing else is conceivable anywhere at hand".
Or when you're playing CT at drop in Cobblestone :P
at least it has a decent kill reward
@@adog3129 Remove "inherently" from your vocabulary for a while. It makes you sound inherently stupid.
“You know who you are...guy who sent it to me.”
*me not remembering sending Ian my MAG-7*: 0.o
Well, it's in Counter Strike, so I don't think it's forgotten anymore
Yeah and when I started the video I was surprised about the stock and long barrel
Has to be like that in order for it to not be illegal, or considered a Short-Barreled Shotgun by the ATF. It's the same way with civilian Uzis, too.
Aside from the finger-eating slide, all the problems seemed to stem from the short ammo. I do wonder if it's reliable with proper shells.
@@kevinkalal5213 Reloading should be pretty practical. You could easily cut down standard plastic shells to the right length. You could crimp them with a regular 12 gauge press by putting a spacer under it. The spacer could be just a piece of wooden dowel or a stack of coins or washers wrapped in duck tape.
@@dwaneanderson8039 Why would you do all that when you could just use a regular pump shotgun and off the shelf ammo?
"This is the worst shotgun ever." I still think that title belongs to the Street-Sweeper. I mean, just think of it like this. While the MAG-7 is chambered for ammo you don't have, and the fore grip over-shadows the trigger guard, at least it's magazine fed, (no bullshit ejection rod system that should've died with old revolvers. Don't even get me started on the wind-up cylinder system.) the gun isn't actively spraying you with hot gasses with each shot, and the stock isn't actively trying to chop your face off.
To me, the Street Sweeper seems like it wants to PUNISH the user for firing it, while the MAG-7 seems like it WANTS to work but the shells you are using are way to small and the foregrip could take a little trimming (So it doesn't smack your trigger finger on the back stroke).
When compared, I think the MAG-7 easily blows the Street Sweeper out of the water.
It's also total bullshit to call it the worst shotgun when he's using the wrong ammo for it.
Both are supplanted by the Cobray Terminator. It's a single fire shotgun yet it's "open bolt" where the entire barrel slams the shell into the firing pin. It also is too light, has a retractable stock and looks like a sten gun.
@Mad Man I think you missed the part about how the Terminator is a single-shot gun. It looks super tactical, but it's a worse weapon than an H&R break-action single barrel.
@@cymond at least a break action single barrel will usually fire the shells reliably due to it not having light primer strikes.
My friends grandfather has one of these and stock pile of its actual shells,
Its the regular version without the stock and the long barrel and it fires really well
You know, coming from South Africa, it might've been considered a bit more ergonomic there. The Vektor R4, a copy of the Galil, was actually made bigger to make it more comfortable for the average soldier of those parts.
Just got an answer to query I made of a guy I know. He's a South African ex-pat now living in Texas who's a veteran of the SA bush war of the 90s. His comment, "Yes, I used one in its original configuration. In that form, it was very light, handy and maneuverable. In its US form, with the longer barrel and buttstock . . . not so much."
+Jim Hambleton I'd believe it. I'm sure it was reliable with the proper ammo as well (Though what shotgun isn't?), and the problems Ian has with it come from not being familiar with it and a lefty, which is a double whammy as is. Though the grip is atrocious and the safety is FUBAR.
Check out Ians new vid on using the right Ammo, he ALMOST likes it lol
@@ianjackson6744 i've seen it a few times in tv reports about south africa (myself being in europe), it was used by police and security personnel guarding politicians and public building doors. There seems to have been a high level crime rate in the early post-apartheid era, society was split in a relatively rich white minority and a poor black majority. Long ago and i was too young to care about politics.
So this is the shotgun uzi, there also was a shotgun mp5 to be seen with the same customer type.
At fist I was like "a 12 gauge Uzi!", then at the end I was like "alright, my $200 Steven's ain't so bad!"
Alright me!!

"Techno Arms Mag-7: When nothing else is conceivably anywhere at hand"
That's one catchy slogan. Would've made this thing sell I bet
Fun fact: the box behind Ian says "material for people wounded by gas" in German.
Thank you!!!! I had a hard time trying to read the message... is it "material für gasverletzen"?
"When nothing else is conceivably at hand!" Need a T-shirt with this on it.
"Deliberately shooting underpowered shells." This is possibly the worst shotgun ever." I spit my drink out laughing. Lmfao
Underpowered has no relevance here. The issue is the length of the cartridge.
I wasn't familiar with this gun at all, saw it in the thumbnail, and immediately though: "That's from South Africa." I was right. Gotta love those crazy South African gunsmiths
My best friend had one, and I loved it. Use the right ommo and it works smoothly. We bought new shells, cut them down on a jig and reloaded to factory specs. NEVER had any feeding issues. Actually a great gun
"M1, your job is done." *M1 flashes back to VE and VJ day, sheds tear*

James Wolfe Wow!! Great reference, sadly only us 4 know what you’re talking about.
Honestly, something like this specifically designed for the Aguila mini-shells would be pretty awesome. Put a folding stock and a short barrel on it and you could have a really nice home defense weapon / range toy. Hell, make it semiautomatic and I'd drop $999 on one lol.
I wouldn't quite say "forgotten weapon", even for the time this video was released. It had already been in CS:GO for about four years and that alone gave it well deserved notoriety.
Nice to finally see one on the channel, these are so wacky looking!
Also, _insert relevant CS:GO comment here_

Hi Ian, Mart from the UK here. Usualy your channel is part of my gun fix as we can't own one here, but today you made me laugh out loud with this ridiculus shotgun! thanks for the lighthearted moment, man!
+Forgotten Weapons What pirate23031968 said. Neat looking gun, sad to see it preform like it did. But thank you for showing this. As I have commented before thank you for doing these.

I "designed" a gun like this at the age of twelve, back in 1983. Being edgy, I wanted a gun that was 0.666" calibre, and I was delighted later to find out that this is not too far away from 16-gauge.
That being said, my "design" was no more than an exterior sketch on a piece of paper, so farewell to my dreams of being the next John Moses Browning. LOL
The other idea I came up with was to neck down the .357 Magnum to take a 160gn 6.5mm round-nose rifle bullet, which if I had patented it would have beaten J.D. Jones's "whisper" concept to the punch.
Let this be a lesson to would-be starry-eyed inventors. IF YOU CANNOT BUILD IT, AT LEAST PATENT IT.
jsm666 Don't patent it if you're not gonna actually do anything with it, then you're just a dick.
@@AnonymousGentooman That works. That's doing something with it and not so dickish.
jsm666 that rifle bullet would not come true as some other ‘company’ took the round.

And always carry a notebook and archive it!
I don't care about guns at all but you got an interesting approach that keep me coming back for more.
Hey Ian, I've read that Centurion brand 12 gauge 2 1/4-inch would be the best bet for running that considering the shells measure 57mm in length and would probably function the most reliably of shells outside of modifying traditional ones to 60mm.
*instantly uses the weapon in CS:GO*

Can't you just cut the damn pump action with a hacksaw?
It's obviously not trying to win any beauty contests, anyway.
Trevor Altonson I meant the actual pump action. He was talking about how it jams into your finger.
"It tries". Best line wth fantastic delivery!!
I was expecting him to test the jump shooting acuracy, that's what it was made to do right? Right?
"It's horrible in every way, really." Haha! Great review, Ian.
Huge fan of the channel! The engineering is what I love about guns more than anything else! As a South African, your criticism is totally fair for where you are. But with the right ammo, the gun is an absolute dream to shoot :-)
That gets a thumbs ip for not only being a great video but perhaps the most epic closing line imaginable.
Things I did not expect him to say:
1. "Today I'm taking a look at _a Shotgun_ "
Interesting to see, but bashing a gun for not functioning with ammo it wasn't designed for?
+Ragnar 33 The ammo was only one of many things I dislike about the MAG-7.
+Ragnar 33 Did you not watch the video? He goes over in detail the problems with the gun. Also, if there's an ammunition supply problem that's important. This video applies to the gun as of 2016.
+Forgotten Weapons Would a 2.5 inch shell fit? I know Nobel Sport makes some.
+Matthew H LOL I'm wondering why it's even in the game at this point. Seems kind of odd for combat or any use really after watching this video. Also you can save a lot more by using a Nova instead if you're expecting an eco. C:

you need to shoot it with the right ammo before you judge it. a pump action shotgun with quick a change magazine in the pistol grip sounds pretty cool to me.
You should've atleast bought the heat skin...
I laugh so hard every time he runs the hand grip into his finger. i don't know what it is but it gives me a good chuckle consistently. I must have watched it hundreds of times now.

1) remove stock
2)remove top cover
3) remove barrel and springs and. bolt
4) throw all into high-temp furnace
I have some 63mm slugs in my cabinet, do you think it would cycle them?
Wow, I've never heard a gun sound as much like the stock TV gun sound as this one does at 10:02!
I use the Aguila mini shells in my pistol-grip-only shotguns (Mossbergs with the OpSol mini-clip, semi-permanently installed with a roll pin through the plug), they're great! I can't think of a better home defense round than the mini buckshot in a short, handy shotgun. Ventura Munitions also makes mini shells, which are a little longer than Aguilas, making them function in a few more actions than the Aguilas. Excellent video as always, never knew such a thing existed.
I loved watching the pained way in which he pumped that last time with his finger in the trigger guard. It took all his willpower.
Yea dude, I'd get my hands on a few more and see if I could trade up.
This isn't forgotten. It's on CSGO!
Yes, Holding Short on Dust 2, Banana on Inferno and Van on Mirage, All these are Commonly held with the MAG-7
A ramp rush with Five-sevens and Mag-7's as ct. Works and hurts like a dream
I run aguila mini shells in my mossberg. It doubled my loadout and feeds perfectly fine with a hard rubber adapter in the lower action. Perfect for park living.
15:15 A spectacular demonstration of tactical juggling by Ian right there
One could always trim 2 3/4 shells to 2 inches and make wax slugs. By using low profile wadding you might even end up with the same volume of shot. Might kick a bit more but problem solved.
This video is going to blow up thanks to CS:GO
"South Africa at the time (mid-1990's) was a fairly dangerous place"? No. No, it wasn't. It is a dangerous place now. in the 1990's kids could still ride their bikes in the streets and play in public parks.
justcarcrazy did I say it was safe now? No, the blacks were (wrongfully) overly vengeful and made it the hell that it now is. Why should I have to live there to know that? How could you possibly know about the human rights violations in China, without living there? Or about slavery here in America? While I wasn't demonizing you, I also don't see why you are denying the past of your country, other than from embarrassment or guilt.
The press ALWAYS exaggerates and spreads bullshit. That is your source of (mis)information. You don't really know what happens, or happened, here. Oh, and BTW, both black and white suffer more these days. Both black and white people had it easier in the "bad old days".
I lived there. In the 90s it was dangerous for anyone in any neighbourhood. Previously (up until MAYBE the mid 80s) you were fine no matter who you were. Also, blacks weren't enslaved during apartheid, just mistreated.
Don't going to lie, it was neat finding one of your older videos.

12ga. Is super simple to cut cases to proper length and load your own with.
It's not like trying to find or make brass cases, you simply trim to correct length then load as normal.
Thank you for this, I was thinking the same, I just don't have experience working with shot shells 👍
Don't go A long with that. Shoulda mentioned.
i remember seeing one of these in a gun store like 16 or more years ago. The salesman told me that they didn't even have ammo for it so they couldn't really suggest buying it or that he couldn't sell it to me because they only sell guns they carry ammo for.
Oh my god, the M1 is just soooo beautiful!
That's a shotgun? I thought that was a giant fucking uzi.
Give me my long sword, ho!
There, this comments section now has a pop-culture reference that is both relevant to this gun and not related to Counter-Strike.
You always can use it as a club.
The LCR has shown that polymer grip frames on a revolver are solid and dependable. However, when you started talking about swapping it out with steel or aluminum, my first thought was to get something custom made in brass like an old Colt... that would really bling it up
If you've got a 12 gauge reloader, you can simply trim the shells to 60mm and load your own (carefully, as I have no idea what the load data for that would be). You can do the same for very old shotguns made for paper shells that refuse to eject full length plastic shells. I mean, it'd likely be a pain as you'd have to trim every wad, but you could do it without too much effort.
I wonder how it shoots using the proper shells
Does this have 100% accuracy at any moment in real life too?
+Lauri Liljander _nothing_ has 100% accuracy even if you stick it right in someone's face, just ask any X-COM operator.
