    • @Charlesb88
      @Charlesb88 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      He has always like the cars, just not the more recent Ferrari sales method that requires you to buy a lesser Ferrari just to even be put on the waiting list for the more desirable models. He said he’s not going to be forced to buy a Ferrari he really isn’t that interested in just to even have a shot at one he is. I wouldn’t play that game either even if I had that kind of money.
      There are plenty of other Supercars just as good that don’t act so snobby and force you to buy a what is essentially an entry level membership into their exclusive club first to even be able to buy fancier models. I believe they even make you sign a contract regarding who you can sell your used Ferrari too or at least they where trying to enforce that restrictions in some markets.

    • @christschool
      @christschool ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@Charlesb88 This was called a right of first refusal and it was only for the special edition cars. Ford does the same thing with the GT and GM does something similar with the C6 Z06 by voiding the warranty if its resold in 12 months. It's always best to give your Ferrari dealer the opportunity to buy your car if you are going to sell it. Ferrari dealers play a big role in future allocations. However, they give back to the owners too in arranging test drives of new models, special events for owners etc. It's a two way street. Ferrari owners know this and are willing to play by those rules to protect their investments.

    • @Charlesb88
      @Charlesb88 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@christschool I understood all before as I am familiar with how Ferrari sells their special editions and the rules about reselling them. I was just explaining why Jay doesn''t own modern Ferraris. He has in several interviews that it's not true he hates modern Ferrari's but rather his issue is that he isn't into being forced to buy a lesser Ferrari he isn't really interested in just to get a chance to buy a special edition Ferrari. As such he refuses to play that game. I would feel the same way, if I even had that kind of money. The buyback right if sold under 12 months Ferrari has for new cars doesn't bother me to the same degree since I doubt I'd ever go through the trouble of buying such a Ferrari only to sell it less then 12 months later. Now if Ferrari owners are OK working within the rules of this exclusive club then that's all fine for them as there's nothing illegal about it all. I get the allure of being a part of such an exclusive club but that being said, I tend to agree with Jay here and take the position I really don't need to be a part of this club (if I ever was in a position to afford it anyways).

      @@donkeyboy585 true but perhaps it probably was like that many many decades ago. But these days Ferrari dealerships just aren’t like that anymore. My local dealership in Orlando are the sweetest nicest people. I chatted about Ferrari in general to the salesman like we were old friends and their interactions were superb In my opinion. Regardless though if I’d ever meet a snooty dealership I’d still buy the car if I liked it. Jay let that cloud his appreciation for the Ferrari car far too many years of back in the 70’s was snobby to him when he was young and dressed in jeans and a denim shirt.

    I particularly enjoyed the incidental compliments about Lotus. handling. As is well known Ayrton Senna had a hand in the NSX's superb handling. He had come to McLaren/Honda from Lotus. Gordon Murray of McLaren F1 fame was an apostle of Colin Chapman as is Adrian Newey, both being head engineers at McLaren. Even Enzo had to move his engines to the back with the successes of the Lotus 25 and the 38 at Indy. At Chapman's death Lotus was the winningest Constructor in F1. I know Jay loves his Elan(s).

    Typically enjoy both your shows. On this one, you missed the mark on how special the 458 engine sounds compared to its peers, especially Mclaren, who competed with Ferrari’s naturally aspirated motors using turbos. Yes, they were faster in a straight line but, up to now, none of their models sound as exciting as Ferrari’s non turbo cars, even Ferraris turbo cars.
    Conversely, Porsche has continued to develop their naturally aspirated models (GT3 RS, etc.) and have truly tipped the experience scale on their side nowadays. But, during 458 production years, no car could beat its glorious sound and unmatched side slip control which made driving heroes out of intermediate drivers like Jay Leno.

The C8 is definitely faster and well made, but given its reasonable horsepower numbers for a car of that category I really wish they would’ve made a stick. Didn’t Ferrari pay GM for Magnetic Ride technology? Jay looks 10 years younger when he’s driving 😂

      No. Ferrari tapped Delphi Automotive to use Magneride in it's 599 GTB. Delphi invented Magneride, not GM.

    No matter how much coaxing I get from other people - I just can't get into the Enzo , as good as it may be. First it looks like the Snout of an Ant Eater, and its just trying to be too many things - you can't try to have F1 performance, but be the greatest road car at the same time. It's kind of like a Serial Killer who's murdered 30 people, and develops a cure for Cancer from jail - I can respect that you did that, but it doesn't excuse your crimes..

    Jay Leno not owning a Ferrari of any model (1949-2023 there are many models obviously) I dont understand his perspective other than him specifically criticizing the new buyer program Ferrari uses but I have an idea why he has avoided the marque.

      He's just a grumpy old man with a deep 30 year old personal grudge over a dealership not giving him the special treatment. He was criticising the Ferrari buyer program while he praised Ford for the Ford GT buyer program and both had similar methodologies. Extremely biased from him, don't know why other's haven't caught this bias from him!

    This feels like Driving Miss Daisy,
    but with a know to much driver.
    Donald's great, but when did he last
    change a set of breaks?
    Ferraris?
    Jay buys what Jay likes.
    He doesn't want to HAVE TO buy 3 cars,
    just to buy the ONE that he wants.
