Donna McElroy performs this classic tune by Hassanah Iroegbu, Brenda Makamoeafi, and Thelonius Monk . Accompanying her onstage is Lori Mechem (piano), Roger Spencer (bass) Marcus Finnie (drums), and Don Aliquo (sax). Recorded August 29, 2015 in the Jazz Cave at the Nashville Jazz Workshop.

Can't believe this is my first time hearing Donna McElroy. What a voice! Great command of musical motifs to coin her memorable style. Brilliant! Round Midnight is a wonderful piece to showcase her commanding talent.

I remember the first time I heard her, I felt like every singer in the room (I knew a few) was connected under the magic spell of Donna McElroy. We had to be better from then on just for hearing her. I kept singing, but it occurred to me that if I spent my life just talking about her, then I'd have done something good with it ;) What a singer, emoter, performer, storyteller...

Some real genius going on here. Lori Mechem gives a lesson on just how to back a vocalist. "The angels sing" at 3:30 and the fill does just that. These guys are just superb!
