My idiot way of multiplying by 9 is to first multiply by 10 and then go -X, so 4x9 is (4x10)-4, and my idiot way of multiplying by 5 is to multiply by 10 and then divide by two (10x7)/2. I just add a zero at the end and go from there, faster than lead poisoned brain can normally multiply lol.
So it’s probably just me, but these two have such mom and daughter energy it’s kinda wholesome in a very weird and ‘special’ sorta way. By special I mean Kirsche’s brand of special. Short bus special. Velcro straps on her shoes special. Reflective vest and crash helmet cuz she’s got some balance issues and tends to fall over when she runs special.

Wow, I've never heard of that finger trick before. I always just did it "manually" in my head by swapping the 10 digit up and the 1 digit down each time, sorta like moving number dials. That's pretty cool though. I can see why that would be taught in a school. XD

I know a way easier trick to multiply by nine: number * 9 = (number * 10) - number so for example: 2 * 9 = (2 * 10) - 2 = 20 - 2 = 18 5 * 9 = (5 * 10) - 5 = 50 - 5 = 45 7 * 9 = 70 - 7 = 63 It's faster because to multiply a number by 10 you only need to add a zero to its back and then you just simply subtract from a nice round number a single digit
This trick and ones like it is so satisfying. It's why 9's one of my favorite numbers. Edit: Mari's trick. The one with the fingers makes my nose bleed. Edit Edit: Never mind, I understood it immediately when my big-brained goldfish princess oshi MariMari Underscore EN explained it. I was confused by the way the strange cat did it.
If you don't have 9's or any sinfle digit memorized, then you tell the person to go from 10 ans subtract. So 6x9 is rhe same as 6x10-6x1. The same trick works for things like 12, but adding instead. 6x12 is the same as 6x10+6x2. I myself don't need to use this trick until numbers above 12. When I was in middle school they made us try to memorize up to 15, but most people struggle with 13 ans 14 without breaking them into more steps.
idk what it is but listening to mari trying to help kirsche with the 9x table heart soo much the best way to find out is to just think of the 10 table and then subtract by 9 to find your answers.
Simpler way is just to do 9 * 9 = 81 is by just doing 10 * 9 - 9 = 81 with your inner voice. That said way people think is different so math tricks aren't universal. It's entirely possible some are bad at math tricks but still good at math with their own methods.
But that basically works JUST for 9 * 9. It's not as effective for all multiples of 9 which is the point of these tricks, they're supposed to be more generally applicable.
