I was born just up the road in Clacton in the great freeze of 1963. Love this film, takes me back to when I was a child, Jaywick looked much the same in the 1970’s too.

My family took a summer holiday in Jaywick 1962. Something about the place draws me. I have revisited several times over the years.

I’ve never seen the footage before but it was wonderful to see it. My youngest brother and baby sister in the pram. The chalet hasn’t changed much, a bathroom added and the veranda has gone or been enclosed.

We had one of those bungalows for two weeks one year. It must have been around 1965 - I would have been about five. I remember there was a storm one night and the waves we crashing over the roof. There was no ceiling and you could see up into the rafters. I remembered being a bit scared of the noise but mum and dad were there to look after me, as they always did. We mostly went went to my Uncle Bert’s caravan at Valley Farm at Holland on Sea. I visited Jaywick a few years ago and I thought it still looked nice with just one or two uncared for places. Fantastic sandy beach. I notice the cameras always focus on these to make a story I suppose. I predict this will be an up and coming area in the next twenty years. I hope the 20s/30s bungalows will survive. Mike McGonigle (dad Tom and mum Kath RIP)
