We took a cruise on the Norway back in ‘85. Loved that ship… I was 16 and still remember all the other kids I met… Stacy from Santa Clara, CA, Marklea from Tenn and Steve from F Lauderdale. We all met the first day of the cruise and hung out together for nearly every minute…such a great time.
I was 18 years old when I worked on the SS Norway as a boiler makers mate in 1998. I flew out to Germany from Cardiff where the SSNorway was Dry docked in Bremerhaven. We then set of to Marseille I believe. Then I rejoined the ship a couple of weeks later In Barcelona. Great memories. Sneaking off to the rope deck for a drink at the bar after a 12 hour shift.
For the cruise industry at that time, Norway was truly in a class all her own. She had the grace and elegance of her liner past combined with the carefree nature of cruising.
I went on this ship to the Virgin Islands for my high school graduation in 1989. It was the first and last big ship I have ever been on and it was fantastic. Very beautiful memories for me.
Did 3 cruises on the Norway. My very first cruise SS Norway in 1985, two more the following years. That ship hooked me on the cruise vacation. Doing cruise 21 this year. Thanks Norway !!!
Honeymooned on this lady of luxury in the spring of 1987. She was well serving and did not disappoint us at all and truly lived up to, and well beyond, our expectations. Fabulous to say the least!
I was on probably one of the last pre-refit Norway cruises (Christmas 1989). A lot of images on this video bring back fun memories, although I will say getting to our lower-deck inside cabin was quite the maze.
NOTICE how they made physical activity a main part of your experience. It wasn’t just drinking, gambling, massages and shopping. They literally encouraged and emphasized their fitness center, workout equipment, spaces for jogging, outdoor sports for kids and swimming pools. Also note how fit and healthy everyone looked in the 90s, it wasn’t just them handpicking the best looking people for their promo, people were literally skinnier and more toned in the 90s and throughout the 20th century.
I had the privilege of going on this ship for a week and it was fantastic. I'll remember it forever. It felt like i was getting on the Titanic when approaching it minus the fear of sinking by the way it looked. It was a sight to see for sure.
I love cruising today but this looks more enjoyable. Just elegant fun, dinner and dancing, and a little island hopping. No gimmicks, add ons etc, just a classic fun cruising vacation.
We sailed on her in the late 90s. Had a wonderful time! Took the cruise from Miami/St Maarten/St John & St Thomas. We skipped their Island due to a tropical storm (I don’t think it reached Hurricane strength)
Sailed on her in December 1995 We were supposed to go to Saint Maarten I think they Had a hurricane so we were diverted to Saint Croix But everything was wonderful! First time snorkeling!
Beautiful ship. I had finally just convinced my parents to even book a cruise at all the year of its fire, and it was between the Norway and the Voyager of the Seas. Well, the fire settled that contest. If it wasn't for Star Cruises buying out Norwegian, the Norway would probably still be here (but probably on its way to India anyway with the pandemic) today instead of a set of rail ties in China.
The 1990 refit increased SS Norway's size to 76,049 tons, allowing her to reclaim the title of the largest passenger ship from the MS Sovereign of the Seas. She would hold on to the title until the completion of the Sun Princess in 1995.
This really was pretty much it for the old transatlantic liners turned into cruise ships. A shame this ship was scrapped, a missed opportunity much like the Olympic being scrapped. The QM1 is and was around, yes, but was already long laid up in Long Beach by this time - so not the same experience. The Norway was the last true transatlantic liner to be still sailing and its a shame NCL did away with her instead of preserving her. Something about this ship would be so much more attractive I’m sure to many than the new ships we have today. I’m looking to specifically sail on an 80’s or 90’s ship in order to get some semblance of the older ship feel since that’s about as old as it gets for cruise ships still sailing these days.
I use to be a crew member on bord of the SS NORWAY in the 80´s. Like a friend of mine uses to say: "Tears still come out of my eyes everytime I watch pictures of the SS NORWAY!." Great Ship. Great times.
Man would I have loved to sail on the Norway 🇳🇴. I would have had the time of my life on that ship. Too bad they pulled it from service in 2003 after a boiler exploded in killed like 7 crew members

Have you stayed in touch or reconnected with any of them?
I was honored to be able to take part in a Caribbean cruise on the SS Norway in October 1993. 🚢❤🚢❤🚢

I understand she had an explosion some years later due to neglect. Were her boilers in bad condition when you sailed aboard her?
SS France /SS Norway - the most elegant liner ever built! What a pitty that new cruise ship look like boxes !
The symphony does not look like a box
Box shape provides maximum inner spaces. Speed is no longer the criteria neither for passengers nor for the owners.

I was blessed to be on this beautiful ship in 1995!

Fun video I have sailed on the ncl escape built in 2015 and the ncl bliss built in 2018 fun too look back at earlier days of cruiseing
Gone but not forgotten I will forever miss her

I’m glad, we did sail on SS Norway
If I could wish for one cruise ship from this era to still exist, it would be the Norway. This ship looked incredible and truly special.
No it is the France !
Cool but this is the ss Norway, not to mention its most succesful career was as a cruise ship. So it’s the SS Norway@@valentinvanderkelen6051
I had the privilege to go on this ship for a week and it was amazing back in 1999

No lies here.

Would loved to see more ncl videos!

I sailed on her also, in 1995 and 1996. Those two cruises were the best I’ve ever been on by far! Amazing!
We sailed in August both times. One of the years, I heard the cruise following ours was diverted from its destination d/t storm related concerns.
Lucky you!😃
Sailed on her in December 1995
We were supposed to go to Saint Maarten I think they Had a hurricane so we were diverted to Saint Croix
But everything was wonderful! First time snorkeling!
Me and the wife took a our first cruise in her back on 2001. It was definitely interesting .
Memories of my Lifetime cruise in 1986 ❤️

Though Norway was always an Ocean Liner, Sovereign the Worlds first Mega Cruise Ship
P.S. Met Norm Bulaish and Artis Gilmore on that cruise, what a great time.

0:03 the backround is the 1997 titanic movie start but the water is yellow
When cruise ships looked like ships and not these mass produced containers with windows type ships
I wonder if the staterooms come equipped with VCRs???
And, does anyone know if I can buy some film onboard for my 35mm camera??
Wish their ships stayed that size
This thing was a museum ship in the 1990's
The 1990 refit did get dirty. She looked ugly with those new decks.
The only cruise I have been on is the Norwegian Sky, which is apart of NCL.
Due decenni trasformata in nave da crociera
Man would I have loved to sail on the Norway 🇳🇴. I would have had the time of my life on that ship. Too bad they pulled it from service in 2003 after a boiler exploded in killed like 7 crew members
Strange to think about, its scrapped and gone forever
From an ocean liner (transantlantic) to Cruice ship
Ss France?
Yes
Not for me no diversity amongst the passengers.
