The perfect casting of Dan as Shuichi, the actual nervous detective, and Arin as Kaito, the thick-skulled investigation partner that doesn't pay attention to anything, has really struck me this episode.
As the "sidekick", Dan should just be telling Arin what to do and what the answers are. He seems to at least be more invested in the story than Arin haha

Interesting how Shuichi pointed out that Kaito and Kokichi think the same way at 14:48 Kokichi did it in a rather malicious way by forcing everyone in a room and making them all uncomfortable. Kaito here explained it in a rather comforting and kind way for everyone to view their motives. Love the parallel set up here, it's small but can be missed.
The parallels between Kaito and Kokichi is one of my favorites in the series. There are both subtle and obvious hints relating to how they're two side of the same coin in a way. There's how they both have different shades of purple hair, both of their names start with K, and they both have a close relationship to Shuichi, but there's also how they both represent the game's core themes. Kaito represents the truth in how he's completely honest about he feels to others, and Kokichi pretty obviously represents lies for reasons I probably shouldn't have to explain. They also show how there are pros and cons to each. It's honestly really interesting and it pisses me off it comes from the same series as characters like Teruteru and Tenko.
@@tastypotato9272 actually Kokichi and Kaito’s dynamic isn’t meant to be truth vs lies as Kokichi does tell the truth a lot more than you’d think and if you’ve finished the game you’ll see just how much Kaito lies throughout it as well. Kaito is meant to represent belief as he chooses to see the best in people and believing in their innocence while Kokichi represents doubt, he chooses to avoid forming bonds and relationships with others as he believes you’ll get betrayed by them in the end and that everyone carry’s malice within them, it’s also why he refuses to cooperate with the others while Kaito does the opposite and works with everyone

But yeah, while the game is based on those themes, I will agree Kaito and Kokichi have a dynamic more similar to belief and doubt. Though I will say that belief and doubt have a HEAVY relation to the themes of the end of the game, even if Kokichi tells the truth at times and Kaito does the opposite

I think that's one of the main reasons I love these two characters, both are very complex. They both run by the "If you believe without doubt than it's simply a lie" phrase that Chiaki once said. Kaito always believes as for Kokichi always doubts. Both are are liars in their own way.
I love the running gag of them screaming in exasperation everytime the "Rise and Shine, Ursine" comes up. It's an appropriate reaction of course as the Monokubs only contribute to the story when they talk like, 10% of the time.

Danganronpa 2 had Monomi but she was written in such a way that her role was more obvious and felt more necessary so reaction to her is a lot more positive. But the Monokubs are a load of Monokuma knock-offs who are deliberately more annoying and not as funny or menacing. It becomes so clear - especially on a rewatch - that it's a parody on the concept and it's doing that parody well... but that also doesn't make them any less annoying.
It was just yesterday when I watched an animated clip of that bit when Mikan offers a Snickers bar to Nagito. I can't help but giggling at thinking of Mikan trembling as she shoves that bar up Nagito's mouth, it was too funny

Not every game they play is going to cater or Pander to everyone's individual taste. If you don't like it just simply don't watch it. There are other videos for you. Yeah, I agree. Arin still seems a bit cynical, but not nearly as much as he was with the others. I just rewatched the DR2 playthrough, and he seemed *so done* with it at least halfway through. Taking breaks from it between chapters may be helpful to prevent burnout. Maybe his not having to be the protagonist this time is also helping a bit. Whatever it is, I'm glad it doesn't seem to be such a burden this time. Hopefully it stays that way throughout the playthrough.

First Shuichi then Ryoma. Next it will be Himiko then Korekiyo. Junko will gather them up off screen so she can do impressions of everyone at the end. When we get to Kokichi's testimony about playing tag with Kirumi. Arin will run "Gotta go fast" into the ground like it's the end of Dr. Strangelove.
It was absolutely nuts that the not a Snickers floating in the pool didn't factor into this case as much as someone violating the pool-school-school-pool-cool-fool-school-pool rules as much as dying from slipping in or around the aforementioned pool.

I'm starting to like Tsumugi more lately. In this cast of absolute crazies, it's actually very nice to see someone so plain. She's just a normal girl, it's refreshing
I totally get this. I tend to also like the "boring" characters like Makoto and Tsumugi. Maybe it's just because I'm boring myself, but I like to think of these characters as more relatable. To me a boring character is more like a woman/man of the people.

I'm curious how Arin is going to react to Kaito believing in Maki without an alibi. I personally love Kaito as a character, but I understand why that segment would drive Arin bonkers. Especially since Kaito doesn't have an alibi either... He is still best boy and I have no shame in saying that.

They are probably thinking Kaito is the culprit which is reasonable right now.

A leg cramp actually can drown your arse. The pain makes it hard to move in the water, and worse case you find yourself treading water while crying out in pain and frustration as your stamina gradually depletes. I've had it happen from trying to burst swim away from what I feared was a sea jelly (it was a plastic bag). Thankfully I was close to the beach and could just propel myself to the bottom to kick off it slightly easing the cramp and helping make my way into increasingly shallow water. But just ask a lifeguard - lotta near drownings come from sudden cramps.

Eh, he was probably trying to remember which button was which on his controller and started pressing too late to win. "Esoteric" is probably not really the right word for him to use there, but it does kinda come out of nowhere and go by pretty fast if you're not expecting it.

@@Azzie1992 They don't? They are joking around like always. The only character they hate openly at the moment is Kokichi. Nothing big happened with Maki yet so they don't feel anything right now. As for Kaito, Arin said before he enjoys doing Kaito's voice. Gotta remember they are playing it blind and forget things alot, Kaito in this chapter is super suspicious even I was questionable of him. They are probably thinking Kaito is the culprit which is reasonable right now.
I think it’s gotta be Angie. She definitely roped Himiko into worshipping Atua to get her to do the magic show, so that she could frame her!

A leg cramp actually can drown your arse. The pain makes it hard to move in the water, and worse case you find yourself treading water while crying out in pain and frustration as your stamina gradually depletes. I've had it happen from trying to burst swim away from what I feared was a sea jelly (it was a plastic bag). Thankfully I was close to the beach and could just propel myself to the bottom to kick off it slightly easing the cramp and helping make my way into increasingly shallow water. But just ask a lifeguard - lotta near drownings come from sudden cramps.
