some of this material should be in museums for researchers. its important cultural material. that phantom lady. that was the cover in the comics buyers guide for years. owning that would be amazing. i still get excited thinking about how i bought about 20 comics off the newstands before i even collected, from about 67 to 73. wish i had those in mint, just for the memories. all gone.

I have a copy of Marvel Mystery Comics #87 in 9.4, highest cgc census. There is a beautifully written "M" in pencil top left hand corner. A few years ago I saw another golden age comic selling at an auction and it had the exact same "M" written top left corner. This is interesting to me because both these books were graded 9.4 and apparently owned by the same person. Who knows how many beautiful books that person had owned and what titles. Most likely that collection was pieced out to different collectors and then some got graded or many. I haven't seen anymore since. My point is maybe the book I own was part of a huge high grade collection that could have been a pedigree if the collection had been kept whole. I keep looking for another book with "M". Lol.

Very cool!! I just picture kids back then at the newsstands toss the clerk a dime and that funny book gets folded in half and stuffed in their back pocket while they play a few games of stick ball.. my dad would buy baseball cards just for the stick of gum and the cards would go on the spokes of his bicycle.. My mom would buy Archie comics and hide them from her abusive preacher father (I don't remember him but i guess he was a real bastard).. just gimme 24 hours and a DeLorean!!

I'm an off again, on again collector in his 30s. At one point I had the makings of a pedigree junior collection of sorts. Started with my grandfather and passed from my father to me. In my 20s I had to sell some books while out of state in college. I've never been one to spec, or submit for grades. This channel is bitter sweet in that regard as it's opened my eyes to the importance of these facets to comics with the modern age. Some things I love about it, while some of it is lost on me. But man, I have left a lot of money on the table through the years and the guilts of these thoughts are what trouble me as I age with this hobby. It was always about the stories, the memories, the escape. I promised to never be the old man clutching his pearls. But it is nice knowing that my kids will have a nice head start, even if I have plateaued into my middle class existence, undecided so far lol. Anyway, thanks to family and the interests built through decades of this community, I know I'm good. I currently have a captain America comics #1, marvel comics #1, xmen #1, among many others that consistently show up here. Books that I am confident would grade highly with my newly assumed knowledge. Freshly gained from my meanderings about this channel. So thanks Tom and friends for bleeding new life into this crazy ass hobby. Now if my wife would just stop pressuring me to cash out lol.

Believe the hype. The Promise collection is insane!! First release of them sold today. 182 books out of the I think 280 being sold first auction prices as of what sold today $7.1M+. More tomorrow on Heritage live. They are phenomenal. I’ve seen some of these in person. These were raw books almost all of them until prob 20 years ago from what I know of the story that HA has talked about with Ed and Lon. There is an interview with them about this collection on YT HA’s page. It’s a fantastic story about the family and a promise between brothers. It’s really, really amazing all away around. Congrats to the family and to HA!!!

There's always "a story" behind the collections? Like "after escaping the Yeti attacks in 1943, Professor Dryer took from of all his arcane possessions only his collection of pulp comics into the deep Himalayan mountain ranges. After finding an abandoned cave with otherworldly geometry, he settled in by keeping warm with the comic books wrapped around his once Atlantean physique. CGC is proud to present this, somewhat smelly, Pedigree collection in all it's cyclopean glory".

Loved the video, I was just wondering if you meant that since this guy has such good taste, these aren't Gene Autry or something, does that mean you think the part of the fam who appreciate those old Dell comics have bad taste? Of course I don't think that's what you were saying but it almost sounded that way and I wouldn't want anyone In the community to think that either but now that the subject has come up, why don't you do a podcast on the old Dell comics that helped shape the industry that we see today? I'm a fan of all comics. Not just the ones that feature gratuitous violence and may be something to spec on in case they're going to hit the MCU or Disney +. There's nothing wrong with that, I'm just saying, why focus on that without covering the historical value of their roots? I'm not criticizing your show, I love what you do and keep up the great work. Just wanted to put that out there. I think the subject matter discussed has room to grow as much as some of those spec books you said have room to grow. The
Dell collectors are a specialized group but part of the comic fam too wouldn't you say? In my 30 plus years, this is the first time I actually started collecting some of those old Dell comics and I love them. The covers are great and there's a f##k ton of subject matter to talk about

It's usually a combination of the three ideal factors: cool, dry, and dark conditions. If those are all satisfied, the cover inks remain vibrant and the pages' deterioration is slowed dramatically. For example, the Edgar Church books were stacked in a cool basement with no other protection.
