She was the first woman to be nominated for producer of the year. She simultaneously topped the pop and rock US charts. A black woman never did that and still hasn't after her
Would have loved to seen Janet go the hard rock path This song blows Michael outta the water I would love to see hard rock & heavy metal artist react to this song Just to see their jaws drop
This song was written and adding at the last minute of the ''Rhythm Nation 1814'' album, because Janet wanted a rock song of her album. This was the very last song recording in the album, in july 1989. Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis asked to his friend Jellybean Johnson to produced the song, because it's wasn't at his production style to produced a rock song. Jellybean work already with janet has a engenner of the ''Control'' album and she recording the song. This song was her fourth n.1 single of her career in US and the third n.1 single of the ''Rhythm Nation 1814'' album (reaching n.1 in october 1990). My suggestion of Janet reaction: ''The Knowledge''. My favorite non-single of the ''Rhythm Nation 1814'' and a fire song. The first time she easy the spoken word songs with this song (before ''Free Xone'' and ''Throb'') and also the beat was so dark and haunting. ''The Knowledge'' was also the favorite Janet all-time song of his brother Michael.
If you want to hear some more of Janet Rocking out, look up the Dave Navarro remix of "What'll I do" where Navarro brought in his then band mates Flea and Chad Smith. Yes indeed, Janet was backed by the RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS on that song
Janet could put on a show just as good as Michael I loved this song so much It brings back so many great memories of my youth I don’t know why people quit making music like this I mean if you don’t like this song you don’t like music She could rock the house down Me and my girlfriend used to go dancing at a club in Macon Ga and dance until they closed Some of the best times of my life
It’s funny, these were such HUGE songs, so you never think someone isn’t familiar. Then it dawns in you.. it was over 30 years ago... Anyway... need to check out ‘If’ from 93 follow-up album.
@@EmpressReacts yep! Still freaks me out! It was like yesterday I had this one blasting in my car as I pulled into the student parking lot in high school. I gonna have to make a new playlist for the car... if we ever get to go anywhere again
Janet is one of the most DIVERSE musical artist in music history. She dips into MANY genre's of music, pop, rock, country, jazz, hip hop, r&b, blues, electronica, house, etc...And folks don't give her enough credit, Janet has much vocal range. Listen to "Love Will Never Do", "Again"...and the entire Velvet Rope album lol. Love ur reaction btw!
@@EmpressReacts Kewl! And yeah, shes done 2 pop songs with country vibes, one with a video (Someone To Call My Lover - th-cam.com/video/v2xLmhAo4NE/w-d-xo.html) And without an un-offical video and is more country/blues vibes (What'll I'll Do - th-cam.com/video/ZygS1PdXJbU/w-d-xo.html)
Janet has many vocal techniques depending on the song and is apart of the message of the song. Most of her rock tracks she is either belting or rapping fast in a whisper ie.. if. You, trust a try, what'll i do, what about, scream.
@@EmpressReacts the main thing about a janet song though is her vocal harmonies. Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis use her background vocals to fill up her songs so you might not notice it but she has a impeccable ear for music
Weird Phenomenon (In my humble opinion): Janet Jackson and Paula Abdul are similar in this respect. They had LEGENDARY first albums. An ensemble of brilliance, but..... Their TWO best songs were on far inferior second albums. Janet Jackson "Control" is eeeeeeasily her best album, but Black Cat and Come Back To Me (Her two best songs imho) were on Rhythm Nation, a lesser album. *For you doubters, Control was ranked the 12th best album of the 80's (The greatest decade in music history). On the other hand, Rhythm Nation was ranked the 36th best album of the 90's (A great, but lesser decade of music). Paula Abdul, same thing. "Forever Your Girl" is an all time great album with A TON of number 1 singles. However, her two best songs, "Promose Of A New Day" & "Rush" were on an inferior album, Spellbound.
I dig Heavy Metal Janet! Steve Stevens was the guitarist on this track who is best known with Billy Idol! This was a very different sound for her but it definitely worked! 💕
I just came across your channel and I love the reactions keep up the good work ❤️😊 ur voice is good also Janet is one of my favorites black cat is one of my favorites off this album
Yaaas BA-BAY! This is Miss Jackson If Your Nasty Doing The DANG THANG! Hahaha Empress girl this is one we used to bump in the hood - of course we bumped everything that the Jackson Family made.
This is my favorite Janet song. Btw you are reacting to all these great artist from the 80's and 90's, so you should react to Paula Abdul, she was one of the biggest and most successful back in the days. Check out the songs "Straight Up", "Cold Hearted", "Rush Rush" and "The Promise Of A New Day". I don't think you will be disappointed.
@@EmpressReacts Yes, the one and only Paula Abdul also known as American Idol judge. She had 6 number 1 billboard hits back in the days. Well worth checking out.

True Janet fans know that the term Queen of whispers is NOT indicative of who she is as a singer. Janet has MANY facets of her performance styles which is why she is the only entertainer in history who has had top hits and nominated for Grammy in 5 genres of music ( Rock being one of them) in 1989 . Even Michael didn't achieve that status.
Janet Jackson's best work. Period

Yaaaaaas! Queen Janet! Wow that is INCREDIBLE! I didn't know she produced this song 😳
1st black female to hit the rock charts.. 1# pop hit
wow, so tina didn't get to #1 on the rock charts?

When Janet performs this live she REALLY Goes off!!!

Rhythm nation 1814 is one of my favorites of all time...
Janet's "Rhythm Nation" album had soooo many great -- and diverse -- songs! One of my favorite albums of all time.
This song Hit #1 on the Rock and POP charts... Making her the first and only artist in HISTORY to have a #1 Rock, R&B, and POP HIT. BEAST!
