      From a chemical point of view, it would be safer as a cocktail than to consume the two chemicals on its own. Well, your stomach juices would probably just reactivate the bleach and you would die anyway, but I would guess you have like... 3 seconds more to live. *But* on the other hand, if you let the cocktail sit for a moment, the ammonia can react with the bleach and make some inorganic explosive,... which will also kill you, but maybe even slower. In general I guess I took your idea to serious.

    I know of cranberries having adverse effects if you're on heart medication. My dad would refuse to drink cranberry long drinks, because he was on heart medication and the doctor told him that cranberry has a thinning effect on blood. I tried telling him that the brand of cranberry RTD cocktails he used to drink don't actually contain cranberry, but he was "better safe than sorry" xD

      Cannabis actually got legalized here in Germany, today, this is great timing to share my own creation, "the Kingston Sour"
      40ml Appleton Estate Signature Rum
      20ml Smith & Cross Overproof Rum
      30ml Lime Juice
      20ml Cane Syrup
      1 Eggwhite
      2 Dashes Angostura Bitters
      15ml Hemp infused Olive Oil
      Dry shake for 20 seconds, shake over ice for 15 seconds, strain into a rocks glass, garnish with a few drops of Angostura Bitters and enjoy ;)

    ⚠ I'm wondering if anyone has an answer to my question.
    I'm on a medication that means I can't eat grapefruit. I like grapefruit, but I like being alive more ... so I won't eat or drink the fruit for the duration.
    The question: is the oil from grapefruit peel safe? What about grapefruit bitters?
    I asked both my doctors and the pharmacists, and they don't have the chemistry knowledge to know.

    • @freezed
      @freezed 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Hi, you shouldn't trust one random person on youtube but perhaps this can get you started at least. The compounds in grapefruit that affect pharmaceuticals are called furanocoumarins, specifically bergamottin and 6',7'-Dihydroxybergamottin. Both of these chemicals are more soluble in the lipid phase than the aqueous phase (that is, high logP values). Therefore I would not assume the oil from grapefruit peel is safe. The bitters, it would probably depend on how it's produced and natural/artificial flavors but I wouldn't risk it (grapefruit bitters don't have that nice fresh zing to them anyways in my opinion).

    • @lizcademy4809
      @lizcademy4809 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@freezed Thank you!
      I *don't* trust any online sources blindly, especially those in YT comments . But what you say does make sense, and if the relevant chemicals are lipid based, I will definitely stay away from grapefruit peel and it's products. Better to be safe!
      In fact, I'm taking it easy on all citrus. I know many modern fruits are hybrids, and it's hard to tell which would inherit the chemical.

    If you want to use cool metal utensils/containers but not stainless steel, look into titanium. Chemically almost completely inert, you can basically pour battery acid, rinse with water and then mix a cocktail in a titanium container without risk. Don't do it, tho. Don't be THAT kind of idiot. Ti also has quite a low heat transfer, so your cocktails cool fast but your hands won't freeze. Absolutely dish washer safe, rust (or any corrosion) proof, quite sturdy...
    And the best part: even if ingested, it still is safe as it won't do anything within the body.
    Have a lot of Ti gear for trecking and it's basically forever-gear.
    The gist of advice regarding botanicals (juniper, quinine, grapefruit/bergamotte) is: KNOW your stuff, don't play pretend. Someone may well suffer or die (or be birthed) in consequence.
    It is sadly often overlooked that grapefruit can cancel out hormonal contraceptives (the pill and such).

For example crystal decanters which are produced in the last years are save - only some which are vintage might have been produced with lead (don’t necessarily buy vintage stuff). Copper is not so terrible - copper oxide is. So when it becomes green (or if you have got any oxidation- you should not use it. Etc
