Much of the history with most independence movements are like this..
1. Minority group gets mistreated, so they want independence
2. Majority group cracks down and treats them even worse for wanting to be independent
3. Minority group wants independence even more because of that.
Maybe people wouldn’t want to leave if you didn’t treat them like crap
Greatly summed up.
Although I feel like this calls for a 2.5 and a 4.
2.5. Majority group would have something big, maybe even huge to lose (resources, geostrategic positions, influence, diplomacy ties, you name it) and so don't violently hold on to the minority out of the sheer goodness of their heart; while citizens from the majority almost always cry about how they pay _fortunes_ (FORTUNES, I TELL YOU... even if the minority barely sees any of it usually) for the peasants in the minority without taking into account what the majority is gaining out of it.
4. The Majority and its citizens will spend an obscene amount of time all year long, for entire lifetimes sometimes, belittling the Minority and anything related to it, mock it, insult it, dehumanize it and wish evil stuff on it sometimes, all while reminding it how it costs them _oh so much_ but will laugh at and ridiculize any mention of independence or greater autonomy because, like every bona fide abusive husband, "you're nothing without me, what will you do anyway, you have nothing, you owe me, blah blah blah" but freaking out big time deep down when the wife talks about leaving.
Yeah if you based in on only known and accepted history. There is always a possibility that even the minority start the violence first, forcing the legitimate government to respond
Yeah if you based it on known and accepted history. There is always a possibility that the separatist are the one who start the violence first, forcing the legitimate government to respond
@@ghjuTrue. It basically just comes down to bigotry and illogical thinking. Even putting ethics aside, it’s more logical to strive for equality and integration from economic and stability point of view for several reasons.
1. The majority group tends to exploit whatever natural resource in the area at the detriment of whoever is living there because they just care about profit, but they fixate too much on short term profit. Dealing with the inevitable uprising is going to be a lot costlier and could cut you off from the resource.
2. Barring an entire region of segment of your population from opportunities will just deprive you of anything those people could contribute to the economy otherwise if they were given the opportunity to grow.
@@thedapperdolphin1590 Personally speaking, the bigotry I don't really care about to be perfectly honest.
Humans -- all of us, to various degrees, no exceptions -- have been idiots for as long as our species has existed so I'm definitely _not_ gonna lose sleep over whatever a stranger thinks of me, my background or how I live, what my values and traditions are etc. Let alone one who seems to have a miserable existence and complains about their own nation 24/7 🙄
Yeah, I'm a peasant and they're part of the civilization. Congrats? Idc, go on about your own life and let me be. Once shtf I hope they think about us when all they have to eat is their paper and digital numbers lol.
What I do have a problem with however, is the illogical thinking part. Or better put, the hypocrisy. Because I think illogical thinking is more often than not just playing dumb, a cover for the absolute shame that saying "granted, I hate you, but I don't want you to leave though. We have too many benefits and advantages from exploiting you and/or controlling you to lose" would bring. Rare are those honest enough to own up to having that kind of colonial mindset and they never do it in your face, always online.
In my specific context it would also be a case of "it would inconvenience me greatly to have to get a passport, obey your own voted laws and spend more for my next door holiday. Don't worry, we'll soon go back to loathing you for the other 10/11 months of the year, but for a short while we'll enjoy everything you have, make your locals' life miserable and still find a way to complain about it, about you and literally everything in existence".
I mean, when they call your people's and ancestors' home their country's "🍑 tanning spot" during summertime and a "leech" place that needs "some serious beating from law enforcement" the rest of the time because there are graffitis calling for their departure (what can I say, we like street art 🤷🏻♀️) or reps so much as dare speaking their own language in their own assembly building, then rejoice when tragedies hit (including deaths) and make the news cycles, you know everything you need to 🤪
Luckily some still have a brain and some modicum or decency/morals and understand that letting us exist as ourselves would appease many, MANY things, but unfortunately they too, are the minority in their own way.
Anyway, sorry for the tangent/rant. It's the politician in me lol 😆
I feel like many of us around the world can somewhat share some of these feelings being on the minority side, regardless of the specificities of each place. Every single one that has an independence desire is clearly not out of nowhere. And as you said, the more the majority reinforces that nuisance and its attitude of disdain and superiority, the more independence desires and movements grow.
Anyway, have a good day/night wherever you are 🙋🏻♀️

Due to its massive size, Greenland would need a population of about 300,000 to truly manage its own affairs. The Inuit population of roughly 48,000 simply cannot produce enough engineers, doctors, architects, diplomats, scientists, airline pilots, economists, etc to govern such a large country. Independence would essentially be in name only because the majority of professionals would continue to be non-native Greenlanders.
I partly agree with you here. The main obstacles, and these aren't simply resolved of course, are having a stable and somewhat self-sufficient government, and military capability, which is entirely Danish military. However, although I do agree that the population number has something to say in terms of education and so on (which is very sector specific as well), gaining independent status is not only about becoming completely unreliant. Look at island states such as Tuvalu and Palau. They have a lot less inhabitants, and although a lot less land, they have gained independence. Greenland has a lot of potential in quite a few industries, but in many cases, it is reliant on international interest, which in itself also poses some challenges. It needs to build industries as it atm relies heavily on fishing (the fishing industry contributes around 90% to the national economy). But other industries are slowly growing, and if they manage to grow sustainably, it could accelerate the independence proces.
Independence, therefore, could be gained and most likely it will in the future. But the debates right now is, as touched upon in the video, whether it is economically viable at the contemporary state of Greenland. As of right now it is unlikely, but it remains a very realistic possibility as the Self-Rule referendum in 2008 has the mentioned term, that Greenland is allowed to commence an independence proces whenever it sees fit, and when the parties agree. And as of right now, there are debates on starting to write a national constitution, which means that Greenland could in the next few decades gain independency.
Bring in mixed European/Eurasian people, from the USA and Russian Federation. Build a civilized country.
@@Johnnie-d9b It is quite civilized bro
I predict that if Greenlanders decide to become independent, they will quickly run into deep problems for the reasons you listed and they will then ask to become part of the Canadian Inuit Territory of Nunavut, making Canada much bigger than the USA in the process.
@HenriBourkel Canada already is much bigger than the US 🤔

Québécois french speaker from greater Montréal here. It’s absolutely true that support for independence amongst the younger generations is much lower, compared to the older, even though the mouvement never really died. But, as of right now, even if independence seems really unlikely since the movement lost its momentum of the 20th century, it’s an interesting fact that the highest polling party for the next Québec provincial elections is the pro independence party, the Parti québécois. I personally think that most younger citizens are relatively satisfied with the degree of autonomy that Québec has, so they just don’t really see the benefit. But I think it should be noted that it’s because of the older generations that fought for Québec’s greater autonomy from Canada that we today have this level of autonomy that most people are relatively comfortable with, notably with linguistic laws, immigration and judicial system just to name a few.
If Scotland and Quebec don't get independence soon, it will become a third world country

Bougainville? I hear that's where My Boogins lives. They should rename it to Krapopolis.
Don't forget that Westminster (under PM Cameron) promised a LOT more to Scotland if they remained (more devolved powers, more subsidies, etc) and then IMMEDIATELY backtracked on them all.
Actually, the “Vow” was never detailed, so it’s extremely difficult to prove the UK government backtracked on anything.
The Scots were asked to take Westminster’s word on “extensive new powers” on trust. That was a massive mistake by independence supporters, since it allowed Westminster to define what that meant. In effect it actually meant a short and sorry list of pathetic rubbish that didn’t correspond to anything most Scots expected.
Lesson learnt..!
If Scotland becomes an independent country, I feel Wales won’t be too far behind, and possibly Northern Ireland too.
Do you remember all that money to farmers Westminster gave to Scotland that the SNP held back and then told Scottish farmers that Westminster did not give them money only to be proven liars pretty quickly when Westminster revealed that they did send money.
Or how about all your Scottish taxpayer money going into the pockets of SNP backers
What about all the bullshit claims of the SNP?
- Scotland would be in the EU on independence - False all EU members need to say yes, several have already said no
- Scotland would inherit some of the UKs military - False since the Military does not belong to one country but to all the UK , so it would all moved out of Scotland except personnel but several regiments have already said they would continue serving with the UK
All the SNP do is lie and blame others
What happens after they get independence who they going to blame then? The Scottish people for not being "Patriotic enough"
@@Duchess_of_Cadishead Northern Ireland will go before Scotland!
Why nobody talks about Wales' potential independence?
Tons of talk about Scotland and no news about Wales.
Some notes on Catalonia/Basque Country:
+ In Catalonia there were two call outs for a referendum in 2009-2011 and 2014, but the legal body was watered down along the process.
+ Part of the boost the independence movement got in Catalonia was due to the crisis. Cat has always been a left-leaning territory and the capitalist crisis of 2008 (2010 onwards for Spain) shook the arena. Artur Mas saw his right wing govt in danger both due to demonstrations and corruption investigations, so, he pushed for independence as an escape strategy.
+ The autonomy setups in Spain are not exclusive to BC/Cat, every region has one. This was done in an attempt to avoid those regions from feeling special and claiming further rights in the future.
+ The only region with a historical legal right that rules over other spanish's laws is Nafarroa/Navarra. For instance, they collect their own taxes. This partially explains why Euskadi/Pais Vasco also has the capacity to collect their own taxes. Yes, the naming is confusing. Basque Country / Euskal Herria = Navarra/Nafarroa + Euskadi/Pais vasco + Iparralde.
+ Elections were just held in Euskadi a few days ago and pro-independence parties got majority, but both did without explicit calls to referendums in a near future.
(Not a critique, both parts of the videos are neatly documented, but there are some small nuances that are hard to know and put in context from outside).
Gora euskadi!
By the way.. what (or who) dictates who has or not rights on anything? Catalonia had its OWN PARLIAMENT and institutions, which of course were banned by the spanish government more than once throughout history.
And the reason why there was that new uprisal of separatist movement in Catalonia was because of the nasty behaviour against Catalonia by the right-winged Popular Party, in power at that time, which again and again did everything to undermine Catalan institutions, culture and economics. One of the main problems being the clear intention by the Madrid government to suppress the Catalan language from schools in Catalonia, and even changing the official name of it in the Catalan-speaking area of Aragon from the original and accepted name "Català de La Franja" (Aragon's' Strip Catalan) to "Lengua Aragonesa Propia del Área Oriental" (LAPAO), which is simply a ridiculous attempt to terminate the Catalan language in that region by simply changing its name in official records. Sooo democratic!.
The more you know 🌈
Great info, thanks for the inside scoop
It's good that you mention the recent Basque regional elections. The most voted parties were two Basque nationalist parties (EAJ/PNV with a right-wing approach and Bildu with a left-wing approach), but neither of them claim any specific intentions for independence at this point. What's more, both are engaged in supporting mainstream Spanish parties in the national parliament in exchange for greater autonomy for the region, and the Basque voters supported the continuation of this strategy when they overwhelmingly voted for them last week.
So it's safe to say that although many Basques would desire independence in a hypothetical future, the majority of them agree with the current soft approach of negotiating greater autonomy within Spain for now.
This is not the case in Catalonia, where nationalist parties clearly state that they aim for 100% independence asap.
You could say that Basques are taking a more realistic approach while Catalans remain more idealistic about their independence
I like that you said “South Sudan is the newest independent country and member of United Nation at least for now” because the Nuer people are now seeking to declare Rol Naath or NuerLand/Nuer Nation in English as sovereign nation-state.
South Sudan is likely to break up into three countries, Rol Naath which is Nuer nation, Equatoria Region and Bhar-El Ghazal which is the Dinka land.
South Sudan is a region comprised of different nations and these nations now seeks their own independence.
Thanks for the clarification and confirmation. I just wrote a similar thing but in simpler terms. You’re correct.
As a catalan, I find it incredibly hypocrotical of European countries, the EU and UNO to say they advocate for democracy and freedom when they do nothing for these stateless nations in supposedely democratic countries, such as Scotland and Catalonia. And that's without even talking about the ones in more authoritarian countries. All we ask for is the right to decide.
I have some sympathy for you in catatonia, but we Scots DID decide. We decided to remain, and it's hardly democratic for the SNP to keep pushing for a redo in the hopes of a different outcome. If we were to have a second referendum and the result was independence, would the pro-union side have the right to a redo of their own, best 2 out of 3?
@@gadsdenjack Seeing as the pro-union side most likely voted for to leave the EU. I dont think having a second count is unfair since also its been over a decade gen Z is now being able to vote in this which they couldn't and they are poling to be majority being pro-independence.
Not to mention as to how since 2016 the UK has been trending worse and more worse compared to their EU counterparts to the point that living in Poland is actually better then living in the UK. its hard to see that a second vote after a complete and utter screwup the last decade as been, that support for independence would grow higher.
It is democratic for the SNP to push for a another referendum because its been a decade, a new crises has evolved shaking the world and the UK, a new generation is able to vote now and with conditions in the Uk gradually getting worse.
@@gadsdenjack Brexit happening since the first referendum is kind of an important development, no?
@nickwatson8641 if it wasn't for Brexit, the SNP would have found some other excuse to demand a redo. Voting no had consequences, one of which is that when UK-wide referendums happen we are bound by the outcome the same as England. A yes vote would have been permanent, why should a no vote only count until the next "important development"?

True! Honestly, I'd love to see a video about a bunch of the much lesser known movements like the ones you mentioned. All the ones in this video I had heard about to some extent, but I had no idea Flanders and Corsica were looking for independence!
Flawanelux
Trust me, Wallonia and Flanders won't separate any time soon. This whole independence nonsense has actually started a bit of a Belgium trend. Many people now hang Belgian flags out on the Flemish holiday and most politicians still say the oath of parliament in both Dutch and French as a symbol of unity. So while a select group of Flemish people still scream and shout about an independent Flanders, the general consensus in Belgium is that splitting the country is a stupid idea that tramples on our identity and history. Nevertheless, there will continue to be a section of the population and parliament complaining about Belgium as one country but even they have temporarily abandoned the independence idea because so many people find it offensive.
@@katego370 I was waiting for a Belgian POV in this thread. Thank you!
@@needfoolthings I personally think the 2010-2011 government formation period is a much more amusing topic. We actually broke a world record: 589 days from election to government formation! That's 589 days without government, new laws, or budgets. The partition of Belgium was the main blocking point as one party was making a big deal of this. So the king, who doesn't have any power at all, actually had to intervene, assigning politicians as mediators to try to get the parties to talk but one after the other quit the job 'cause it was such a headache job. It was a total circus but also the most Belgian world record to break... And that record is still standing.

The guy in charge also just got booted out/resigned because he is legendarily unpopular and their coalition collapsed due to their alliance with the Greens, so any idea of working with the Greens is probably dead while the alliance with the greens came after they shit canned the previous pro independence people xD.
They’re also seemingly in free fall at the moment politically, with Yousaf resigning today and Sturgeon being investigated for fraud.
No, but pro-independence parties did win a majority of seats (SNP + Greens)

French perspective on the new caledonia thing.
First thing first, i'm genuinely interested in the subject so i know quite a lot about this topic, not just talking from my butt.
The main thing to consider in the independence referendums is that the voting lists have been mostly frozen so as to not disadvantage too much the kanak side. i don't remember the exact rule but i think you need to have been living there for 5-10 years in new caledonia prior to the 1988 agreemenent to be on the voting list, that means that a 35 yo who has been living there his entire life would still not have a say in the vote for independence, which would be obvious BS. that is the only thing allowing the kanak side to pretend they actually have a chance.
now times have changed and the wounds of the 1988 incidents are far behind, especially for young people. The pandemic had an effect on the vote too, but not the one the kanak side advertized. France made a LOT of efforts to get the population vaccinated, which would logically make at least a few independentists rethink a little bit (we all know that small independant island nations would not had it as good) AND recently there has been tensions with china in the region which made it clear that independence would have meant vassalization by china just like what is happening in the solomon islands (french news are very outward looking).
so when they say that "oh no, the vote falls during our customary grieving whatever" i cannot help to call BS. Support for independance was already iffy, and the recent events did not play in their favor, I think the vote was doomed, and i think they knew it. But as per their agreement and as per UN decolonization rule, this third independence referendum was meant to be the last, and should they lose fair and square, they knew they would be stuck with it for a very long time, possibly forever if the youth doesn't end up caring as much. So they reached the conclusion that their only chance to win was to not play, and called for a boycott.
Now where does that leave us ? the agreements freezing the voting lists have expired, and the french government if working toward enlarging it to most people who have a legitimate claim to participate in local affairs (likely anyone who have been living there for at least 5 years) which will lead to the kanak population being dwarfed in numbers by the non-kanak, and i don't see how they get away from it because democracy when 2/3 of the other side can't vote is not exactly democracy.
Most likely the only path left to them is violence, or rather incite violence and hope that france does something as incredibly stupid as we did in 1988, but we have learned a thing or two since them. but even assuming that, i don't see it going well, what was made very clear during the peace agreement was that the kanak and local french people would build a future together and without violence, renegging on that would look very bad, so i think the carrots are cooked as we say.
I've learned a lot from this channel more than i did as a student
That Quebec story is honestly pretty remarkable, all these other countries ought to study Canada for a lesson on how different peoples can coexist in one country. A land dominated by two different peoples, speaking different languages, following separate strands of religion and were formally historic enemies, yet they're still on the same page ideologically and respect one another's culture and sovereignty.

As a Canadian we are basically bribing them to stay in, Its not that complicated Quebec has a great deal going on for them we all know it. they kick out the PQ would wanted another referendum as during the election they said during independent they still get to have control over Canada's dairy quota's, still get oil money from Alberta, and still control of Canadian monetary policy... its PQ revealed they were full of BS that being independent had no downsides and your average voter realized it. Quebec threatens to leave now just to get concessions from everyone else now and its starting to grate on people nerves.
You're basically talking about two groups of white Europeans whose ancestral countries neighbor each other and which have colonialism in common. The cultural and linguistic differences between the populations in these other places are much greater.

Denmark didn't "acquire Greenland from Norway". Denmark-Norway was 1 unified kingdom, with Denmark at the helm. In-practice it was basically just the Danish realm we know today, with Norway being a part of it like Greenland and the Faroe Islands are today.
With Norway as an internal subdivision in this Kingdom, it was technically through it Denmark-Norway laid claim to Greenland and the Faroe Islands. When after the Napoleonic wars Norway was given to Sweden instead, the great powers decided that would not include Greenland and the Faroe Islands, which would stay with the Kingdom of Denmark.
So you can make some technically correct argument for your statement being true. But in practice what happened was simply that they stayed with Denmark when Norway left the union, despite Norway claiming the territories.
This is not his only error, so I'm more inclined to believe you.

The outside world would never believe they. All they see are mainland Chinese invaders even though Taiwan KMT goal was always a none China under republic rule.
Only technically. In truth basically no one believes that. But if taiwan reneounces it its basically the same as declaring independence and china will respond with war pretty much immediately.
Only because formally abandoning the claim would be seen as declaring independence, prompting an invasion from the mainland.

21:57 Copenhagen is an Objective map taking place in the city of Copenhagen, the Capital of Denmark. It takes place on July 7th, 1815, following the events of Catacombes de Paris. Players spawn throughout a barricaded apartment within the inner city--with Congreve Rockets flying overhead and bombarding the city. Upon spawning in, players will descend down the stairs and exit into the nearby alley--which contains several civilian corpses, a set of wooden boards attached to a rope, and a number of Zombies. Players must proceed through the alleyway to reach a locked gate leading into a flooded basement. Players must destroy the lock, either by using a melee weapon or a firearm, after which players will proceed into the basement of a bar. Players must ascend to the second floor of the Bar, where they will come across a number of storage shelves and barrels, along with an opening in the wall for raising cargo with a rope. Players must interact with one of the barrel's and turn it over, then roll it to the nearby cargo lift, where it can then be tied to the rope and pushed to the ground in order to lift up several wooden boards, allowing players to collect them and build a bridge across to the nearby apartment building. Players must then make their way through several burning buildings and across partially destroyed rooftops--if there are less than 10 players currently alive at this point, players will be required to go through an alternative route which will allow deceased players to respawn early--before they eventually come across a burning attic that is impassable. Players must extinguish the fire by collecting a set of water buckets and dousing the fire with them. Players who do not have the Water Bucket equipped can find wooden buckets and a set of water pumps by descending a rope to the ground. Players can then ascend the ropes and approach the fire in the attic to douse it with water. After extinguishing the attic fire, players will make their way across two more attic's before entering a large residential building. Players will drop down into the building through a broken ceiling tile, and proceed down the stairs--where they will drop down through a collapsed stairwell into the first floor of the building. Players must hold out in this room for roughly a minute, at which point players will be able to proceed into the main town square. Upon making their way through the town square, Players will come across a broken wooden bridge; the players must shoot a Gunpowder barrel located across the bridge and next to an abandoned merchant vessel. When this barrel is detonated, it will light the vessel on fire and push the merchant vessel down the canal, until the ship reaches the bridge. Players must quickly jump onto the flaming merchant vessel, and then onto the other side of the bridge before the vessel passes through the gap fully. Players will then come across a small pier, where a Danish gunboat which is moored. Players must enter the gunboat and untie it from the pier so that it can begin moving.
Players will have to clear their path while defending the boat, with a naval gun positioned at the front of the gunboat being used to clear a blockage. Players must make use of the Naval gun, as well as several Swivel guns positioned on each side of the boat in order to defend the gunboat--as Zombies attempt to climb onto the gunboat. Players will then have to clear the collapsed mast of the merchant vessel using the Naval Gun before proceeding forwards. Players will continue downstream until they encounter a large Royal Navy Brig-Sloop which is enforcing a quarantine of the city. This vessel will begin firing upon the players after the players pass under the bridge--players must destroy the British vessel in order to breach the quarantine and escape Copenhagen. Players can destroy the vessel by using the Naval Gun in order to strike the vessel with Round Shot--players can additionally kill Sailors onboard the ship to disable several Cannons. Once the vessel has been destroyed, the players will successfully escape.

Though no referendum is going to pass unless democrats get a super majority, which isn’t likely to happen any time soon.

That's because, despite what you may hear, support for independence amongst Puerto Ricans on the island is low. Every time there's a referendum, independence only gets ~5%. I’m sure the (Lapp) speakers of Sami would like to assure the Basque people that theirs is not the only surviving Paleo-European language spoken in Europe. The Finnish and Estonians could also argue the same - as with other speakers of western Uralic languages (like Sami) - especially the Permic, Mari and Mordvin branches. The speakers of Georgian, Ingush, Chechen, Karbadian, Sven, Mingrelian, Laz, Lezgian and Avar might also have a case to put that theirs are also indigenous languages of Europe that survived the onslaught of the Indo-European language family.
great research, mister. thank you! (ps, the sound was fine for me!)
I am from the Basque Country (from near San Sebastian, province of Gipuzkoa), and another super evident symptom of independentism/regionalism in the region is the rise of the two main Basque nationalist parties (the Basque Nationalist Party, center-right wing, and EH Bildu, left-wing). Especially since ETA was dissolved as an organisation in 2011, these two parties have been increasingly representing a higher percentage of the voting pool in all kinds of elections (Spanish parliament, Basque parliament, municipal elections...).
I would say that the presence of ETA gave Basque nationalism (especially the left-wing one, known as "ezker abertzalea" or "patriotic left") an image of extremism, which benefited some Spanish nationwide parties to keep their popularity in the Basque Country. The disappearance of ETA clearly attracted many votes from Spanish nationwide parties to Basque nationalism. This is made even clearer when looking at the words of a former minister of the PP (People's Party, right-wing), José Manuel García-Margallo, which talked about another member of the PP saying "since we're not being killed anymore, we don't have any project". It honestly feels like right-wing Spain-wide parties were relying too much on the terrorist organisation as a political tool in the Basque Country, and the disappearance of ETA hit very hard to their popularity. To this day, ETA is still a very hot topic in Spanish politics, mainly brought up by these right-wing nationwide parties, and mainly due to the historical links of EH Bildu with the terrorist organisation, and an increasing number of Basques (and many other Spanish people) are just sick of the constant presence of such a sensitive (and oftentimes unnecessary) topic in Spanish politics. This is what I see as a pretty politically moderate Basque person, the story may change a lot depending on who tells it, but I believe I am being pretty loyal to the truth.
Another very important distinction is the Basque Country (Euskadi) as an official autonomous community in Spain (which comprises the provinces of Gipuzkoa, Bizkaia and Araba), and the widely used yet unofficial concept of the (Greater) Basque Country (Euskal Herria, which comprises the seven provinces shown in the video, Euskadi+Navarre+the three provinces of the French Basque Country). Euskadi (Basque Autonomous Community) is an officially recognised region within Spain, with the Basque language having the same officiality status as Spanish. Although the Basque identity is still fairly heterogenous within the region (with some areas in Araba being much less Basque nationalist than most areas in Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa), Euskadi still is officially, unequivocally recognised as Basque, and it's not even close to the hetereogenity seen throughout Euskal Herria (the greater, unofficial region) when it comes to Basque identity. I am not that familiar with how the situation is in the French Basque Country (AKA "iparralde" or "Northern Basque Country"), but I can say France is very centralist about language and culture, so the Basque language, identity and culture of Iparralde are probably very poorly recognised by the French state. The most evident example of this hetereogenity (and how conflictive the concept of Euskal Herria can be) is Navarre. Navarre sits to the south of Euskadi, and its northern area is very similar to Euskadi, with high percentages of Basque speakers and a pretty strong Basque identity (even though many still feel proudly Navarrese). This area is officially known as "zona vascófona" in Spanish, which means "Basque speaking zone", and the Basque language is official here. There is also a "mixed zone", in which, among other areas, the capital, Pamplona, sits. Here, Basque is not used widely, but it is still recognised as a historical linguistic representative of the area. And then, there is the "non-Basque speaking zone", in which the Basque language barely has any presence, and in which most of its inhabitants don't feel Basque in any way.
All this being said (sorry for all the text lol), it would be interesting to see what exact part of Euskal Herria would become independent if it were to happen one day. Would it be just the Basque Autonomous Community, would it include heavily Basque-speaking areas of Navarre and Iparralde, or would it be the whole thing? What inner political tensions would an independent Basque Country bring?? Such an interesting topic to think about.
Thank you so much if you took your time to read this. Have a great day!! :)

@@RobertsonHH This is incorrect. The last poll to show Yes in the lead was in early April at 44 to 42 (14 undecided). A poll shortly after saw No with an outright majority (51 to 44) and two other polls since have shown No in the lead without an outright majority.

With SNP imploding at the moment (partly down to them being largely a one-trick pony with no other ideological coherence, especially following the departure of Sturgeon who managed to hold them together through sheer force of personality), it's unlikely that either Scottish Greens or Alba will pick up enough votes to be a significant force in Holyrood, voters are much more likely to defect to Labour, Lib Dems or Conservative, who are all pro-union and won't be remotely interested in trying to get another indyref.
Why do you assume the emergence of new independence supporting parties in Scotland to be negative for the movement? Is it not more like the movement is maturing and moving away from being linked with a single political party? Is it not evidence independence is becoming more of a movement and less of a campaign?
I think you’re seeing what you want to see.
