The Unbelievable Practice of Paper Art

  • “The Mind’s Eye” is a new series from VICE in which we chronicle the creative process of a unique creator, artist, or craftsperson as they produce an original work. The result is a hybrid between a strangely-satisfying look into the technical processes of modern art, but also a portrait of the world’s leading creators, their lives, and their inspiration.
Polly Verity is a “paper sculptor” from Wales who has enchanted her followers with her remarkable ability to create intricate, three-dimensional works of art using mainly plain, white paper.
In the third episode of “The Mind’s Eye”, we’ll follow Polly as she brings a whole new dimension to the age-old art of origami.

I often wonder how we can create new things in art, how do we keep the world interested, if everything has already been done? Then I see stuff like this and am amazed, for lack of a better word! What simple items can be turned into is often times mind blowing! I love seeing the things people come up with to keep art "fresh" and new! This doesn't even look very difficult, but in trying myself... I ended up with a crumpled piece of paper... I called it "ball" , then tossed it in the bin.

Just realize that numbing your brain by consuming mindless content isn’t just pointless, it’s lifeless. The meaning of life is to achieve and to advance. I believe that we derive meaning from learning more about ourselves, through whatever method we might use. Art, exploration, education; all these things have meaning. Unless you’re absolutely exhausted, do something meaningful. It’s definitely worth it.

Just start folding! Just start by Whatever you do or fold to one side of the paper, do that to the other side. Kind of like a paper air plane but don’t stop there, just keep going, make it your own intricate thing, it’s so fun!! Then just keep doing that and connect or (glue or double stick tape)them rather all together , you will love what you come up with!!

This woman is incredible and her art is so beautiful and mesmerizing. I've never seen anything like this and it's amazing! She is definitely on another level, the way she thinks about things and how she just slowly creates these amazing pieces is something most humans couldn't even fathom.

Thank you for sharing your beautiful artistry. It was interesting hearing how your mind works of thinking how to create the various phases, Etc that you have created with their father. I love seeing all the various things you have created including your skirts. Keep sharing and we will keep sharing your videos of your masterpieces. Betty Gordon, Ames, Iowa
