    Beautifully done! I don't recall ever hearing Haydn sound like this...clarity, definition between lines, and compactness of sound. Well done!

    A melhor orquestra barroca, com músicos extraordinários. Eu sou apaixonada, sem contar na intensidade das apresentações, e essa é uma delas. O concertino é maravilhoso, no quesito performance do século XVIII. ;) ❤ (The best baroque orchestra, with extraordinary musicians. I'm passionate, not to mention the intensity of the presentations, and this is one of them. The concertino is wonderful, in terms of 18th century performance. ;) ❤)

      Wonderful. Haydn is the most underestimated of the truly great composers. Like JS Bach he's a musicians musician. Full of joy, wit and intellectual rigour. Simon Rattle said that if he could only have the music of one composer it would be Haydn's and Rimsky Korsakov regarded him the greatest orchestrator. Brahms and Mahler among many were great abmirers.Hans Keller said of his string quartets ' there is no greater music.

      I know that Austria and Germany were united until 1866, but Haydn is an Austrian composer precisely speaking.

      The German confederation came into existence 1815 after the defeat of Napoleon and Austria was part of it as well as Prussia. It ended (!) with the war that resulted in Austria being annexed by Prussia 1866 and was recreated as the German Empire in 1871. Prior to Napoleon, there was technically speaking only the Holy Roman Empire run by the Habsburg dynasty, but in reality a plethora of regions that did what they wanted with Prussia being the biggest and strongest of them. None of them were called Germany.
      Germany at that time was (if at all) only a very broad cultural/linguistic concept, not a political one. And Austria was as much part of that as any of the other regions of the Empire that spoke German.

    So interesting to hear the classical repertoire without the customary lashings of vibrato in the strings. Fabulously accomplished conducting

    They should definitely start a Haydn symphony cycle.

    Spectacular! But I'd sure love to hear this ensemble do it with a proper continuo instrument. Pianoforte or harpsichord ... take your pick. Even Beethoven was still demanding a keyboard continuo instrument as late as his 'Piano Concerto No. 5,' in 1811. Why not here? For the most part, the 18th Century saw them as "the indispensable underpinning of all music."

      T.J. White I think a harpsichord may lend itself well here.

    This woman does a wonderful job. She is amazing!
    The passionate way that conductor is directing the orchestra, as if the music is flowing through her and moving her, coupled with that blissful look on her face, is incredibly sexy.
    I’m very impressed, and would happily drive the six hours from New Jersey to Ohio to see them play.

    A mix of modern and baroque instruments. For example the string bows are modern. Are they not using gut strings then?

    • @Rik77
      @Rik77 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think the bows are late 18th century. By then bows were getting much bigger.
