Removing the whole light assembly from the King is not necessary AT all. Remove the headlight, chrome strip on top, pop the lock cover off, and unscrew the clamp cover. After this your clamp and bolts are exposed
hi have 2018 road king special im going from stock to 14 inch apes will I have to get extension for the wiring harness and longer clutch n brakes cables?
Not a good idea to remove the jacket covering on the throttle wire that inside the bars, if that's the case I would not change out my stock bars at all, in time you might be in some kind of electrical problems 4Sure .
Had to on this one to get them to work their way through the bars. run some heat shrink over them once installed to help prevent the issues you mention. Thanks for the good input
I felt the video was quality and well explain.I guess he has uh point about the fender protector and other things that should have been covered.Sometimes as uh professional we get so dam comfortable and good at what we do.We either forget or cut corners intentionally.(Coming from an Union Ironworker)Nice video man.

Yeah, I'm gonna go ahead and hire a bike shop to install my new bars. I'm sure I'd F something up with all that going on
I installed 12" on my 2018 Harley breakout , after few days I hit a pothole at night and now my bars moves forward and back , loose. I tighten the bar clamps to the fullest and still bar movement. What do you recommend to fix this issue?
@@jpcycles Ahh, no. 2017 was the first year for the M8. My 2017 Road King clearly says "107" on the air filter cover. 2016 was the last of the twin cam.
1.So will this set-up work with the Road King Special?2.I noticed when you pulled out the wires they we're all together. When rerouting them. They we're no longer together. Can you snake it though as you took it out?(J&P Gold Member,Thank you J&P Cycles for all your content)
These bars had such a tight bend in them, it was needed to cut the casing off and separate the wires. Without cutting the actual wiring or removing the connectors, wiring/connector were snaked through one at a time. Once they are all the way through, heat wrap was snaked back over the wires and then shrunk to ensure the wires do not get damaged or exposed to the elements over time. The process would be the same on your special, as long as the wiring connectors are small enough to fit into the bar internals.
Good evening. I have a question. I installed 18” apes on my 2014 road king non abs, I wired the bars internally with heat shrink, however my right blinker and oil light on the dash stays illuminated but when I put it in gear the oil light goes out. I also have no neutral light now. I pulled the wires back out to check for any disconnections or breaks and have found nothing. Any help is much appreciated. Thank you
It appeared that the left AND right control wires were on the outside of the stock bars? Then, when reinstalling the new bars, were those wires stuffed inside? If they were, did you not show that in the video? Seriously, I'm asking? I'm getting ready to do this upgrade in a couple days.
Yes wires are outside the bars from the factory. Yes its way cleaner to put them inside, here is a video explaining it a bit more th-cam.com/video/C0zcSdpNGxY/w-d-xo.html
So stock 2019 FLHR Road King does not require any cable kit and stock cables will work with 14" apes? Is there plenty of slack in the cables? thank you
You can go up to a 14 with stock hydraulic lines but will need to extend the harness for the controls. The drive by wire will reach. Look up the KST video for more

Great video. I needed to see how it looked under the nacelle. This was super useful for me. Thanks,
Good video. Tip tie a string to the end of the old wire before you remove the old wire and use that as the guide.
This just helped me switch out my handlebars. Great vid. Thanks.
great tip on using air to blow off the stock grip, and using an old throttle cable

Needed to specify the torque values on the bar clamp. Also, any locktite needed?
Thanks J&P Cycles!
Very well done, looks like the stock wiring was long enough.
Actually doesn't look as hard as i thought it would be, may give this ago myself. cheers for the video.
What was the height of old and new bars? Was existing wiring and cables reused?
Good video

Nah, you got it.
Awesome vid
Do a 14” bar with stock cables on a 21 roadking!!!
Does this method work with older models? Specifically the 13 classic
How did you determine how much pullback you wanted?

Blue lock tight
So this install won't apply to a 2017 model?
What would the difference be?
It will be similar. This was done on a Milwaukee 8 model, a 2017 is the older Twin Cam model.

@@michiganborn8303 Yep your right. Brain fart on our end. So the new improved answer is - yes. The install on a 2017 would be very similar
I’m looking to install 16” bars, on my 2017 Road King. Can I use stock clutch & lines?
Thanks
probably not. Here's the best way to find out for sure th-cam.com/video/jLvFTy-6o9w/w-d-xo.html
