This is definitely a "Home Run" video with so much info to empower your watchers. I watch a lot of videos by watercolorists and I treasure the ones who actively teach and you are my favorite.
Thank you so much for this pdf file and all that you do on here. I have 4 kids. 2 still at home and 8 grandkids. They have been, along with my husband life consuming, with pleasure. Always telling me I needed a hobby. My 11 year old granddaughter showed me how to use things on my phone, like youtube. I discovered you not long after. I now have no dining room. I do mixed media, acrylic, graphite sketches, altered bottles, clay and last month started with watercolors. I watch you everyday for hours. My husband is leaving for a project for 3 years and I painted a watercolor for him. It is only the 2nd piece I have done that I am proud of. Never commented on anything before. But if I can upload it here to show you I will. Menopause is killing me and your voice is soothing too.
Oh Lindsay, you are a gem! The work you put into the chart, I printed it, it is wonderful and I couldn't thank you enough! I had my husband watch your demo, he has told me often that in school he would always mix mud, well, now he knows why! Thanks so much for being so generous in sharing!
Lindsay - You amaze me! I went to school for art education, had a painting class or two, and I have to tell you I think that the teachers I had really did think that you came out of the womb knowing this stuff because I never hear any of it. Seeing this now I would think that these concepts should have been so basic to teaching any art that involved color that I would hear it over and over. But no. I had a very extensive class on color where the teacher insisted that we purchase this huge expensive stack of colored papers. I can't even remember what they were called but he had us doing assignments with it "learning" color. We had to cut out swatches of color and using rubber cement glue down these swatches next to each other to learn how one color effected the other. Which while it was interesting.... really didn't teach me anything about color mixing. anyway... I am rambling - all this to say Thank you for your straight forward approach to color mixing. I really love your videos. You are a gem!
Wow! This is hands-down the best colour theory explanation I've ever seen! Just when I thought you'd outdone yourself as much as you could, you come out with this gem! Helped me no end, thanks a million again, Lindsay! You RAWK!
Hello! I just wanted to say thank you because when I first found your channel around 4 years ago, you really helped me see that painting wasn’t as daunting as I thought it would be. I guess I’ve become so caught up in the ‘I’m such a failure if I don’t paint so and so properly’ that starting and trying to finish a piece drained me of so much energy. And although I still kind of feel that way, I feel less stressed thanks to your relaxing videos. Painting has finally become fun for me 😊 again, thank you so much!! I consider you to be like an art mentor or art friend I can rely on ♥️♥️ have an amazing day!
Thanks Lindsay! Xoxoxoxo. 😙 Being a grandmother, I've swatched my paints and pallets with the color names,(swatch book also pigment info). Just in case I kick the bucket and a grandchild wants to use them. LOL. Downloading your awesome color guide too. Into the book it goes.( plus a copy for daily use). I have a legacy of books for my family; Recipes, Lotion, Potion Bath and body, Soap, and watercolor paints. I have no money to leave them so it's their inheritance. 🤣🤣🤣💙
I think this is a wonderful idea! The knowledge being passed down will be more valuable than any amount of money. After my mother passed, I have valued her written recipes more than I ever did while she was alive. It’s a great legacy I hope to pass on also.
annette fournier - What a wonderful idea! I'm a granny myself and I'm going to copy your idea. I feel to leave this kind of information and experience is of infinately more value than money. I have often thought I'd like to have known more about family members who have died. I also think of all the questions I never asked. This will give your family a window into so much of your life and personality - more than you probably think. Your family are very lucky. Thank you so much for the idea!
Hi Lindsay! The document you've created has so much value, it's exactly what I needed. There's a lot I'm trying to learn about colour mixing these days, and this just helped put things into perspective in the best way. Thanks a lot ! 💙
Thank you, Lindsay. This is great even for those of us who have been painting for awhile. This took some time for you to compile. Very much appreciated.
Lindsay, thank you so much for the great video. It helped me understand colors much better. Thank you too for the free information color sheet. I know it took a lot of time to put this together and will be very helpful. Your very generous and inspirational. Thank you for all you do.
I truly appreciate all the time you put into making this video, b/c the subject can be so confusing. I typically use the pigment numbers (e.g. Ultra Marine Blue (PB29) more often than the color names when looking for a substitute. Sometimes I need to mix in white to make an approximate color, but I had to order a tube of Titanium White. The Chinese White that is included in many watercolor sets doesn't do the trick needed to get the color I'm after. Thank you for all the help you've given us along the way, Lindsay!
Thanks Lindsay, you are a wealth of information. Thanks for the free download. I understand mixing the cool and warm undertones much better, boy did I have it wrong. I just loved this video.
Oh thanks so much, this is going to be so helpful. I do need help distinguishing the difference between warm and cool colors. I have enjoyed all your classes I signed up for and all your wonderful videos and instruction - you have opened a window of knowledge for me - so much appreciate you sharing!!
Just want to echo what has already been said, this is so very helpful, and it’s much appreciated! You really go out of your way to help us aspiring artists 😘
Wow! Thank you so much! This comes at a perfect time for me. I am just learning this and was struggling. Now it makes more sense! You are so sweet to do all this work for us! Love ya! 😘
Thank you so much for this information. And once again I am left astounded by the mine of knowledge that is your brain. I can hardly remember where I've put my paints these days, never mind the colours or mixing formulae. LOL! Thanks again.
Thank you for taking the time to make this for us. Very helpful especially, when we different brands have different names on paints, which I find very confusing.
Lindsay thank you very much. That's a great help. I've shared it on fb as well. I've a few friends getting into watercoloring at the moment and this will be invaluable to them too. Thanks a million.
Lindsay, thank you so much for going to the time and trouble to put that out there for us! I have your classes also and love them. Miss your live lessons, but understand why you don’t now. Have you looked into the TH-cam feature where you share a pre-recorded video, but are on there at the initial cast live to comment and ask questions? I always enjoyed hearing you interact and answer questions. You’re so down to earth and funny, feel like my friend moved away with the lack of a live feature. Lol. Anyway I enjoy your watercolor, drawing and information videos.
thefrugalcrafter Lindsay Weirich Oh great! Hopefully, we won’t be on the road until after that. I’ll have to make sure TH-cam is on my phone and make my husband drive just in case. Don’t want to miss it!
Wow, thanks so much for this. I can sure use this. I am trying to learn more on watercolors and painting and this will really help so much. You are so thoughtful.
Awesomesauce! A much needed resource, and I'm going to print two. One for me and one for my neighbor child that I gave a bunch of my student grade watercolors to. Lindsay, you Da Best! 👍👍
Thank you so much for doing this. I am signed up for 2 different 3-day workshops in the next 3 months, and of course each teacher uses different preferred colors. I already have many tubes in many brands on hand and this should help me substitute succesfully, not that I EVER need an excuse to order new paint...😆
That is the most awesome tool ever!! Thank you so much for all your hard work. I've run into the problem & it had me searching for colors & I was out of my painting zone. 😐 Thanks again. ❤
Thank you Lindsay for the tutorial and the very helpful chart. I have been following your channel for a while. Always learn something new.I love your cheery enthusiasm and the encouragement you give us. Appreciate the thought and time that goes into your videos. Greetings from Perth Australia xx
Lindsay, can I say thank you so much for this. I have a decent understanding of colour theory, but I love your PDF listing of colour alternatives and the the way you addressed granulation in this this video and talked about using white watercolour to achieve granulation effects. I also appreciate how you "highlighted" your essential colours for us to reference. It's a wonderful resource I'm definitely going to print and use.
Thank you so incredibly much Lindsay!!!!! This so helpful and wonderful of you to share!! I dont know if this would be a good video, or if you even have time, but i would love to see a video where you show your personal favourite/ useful pigments and compare a few different versions (eg yellow ochres, burnt siennas, phalo's etc) . And seriously, THANK YOU for this and all your videos!
Thank you so much Lindsay for the free downloads, this will help me so much with mixing new colours and thanks for all the hard work and invaluable information that's helps so much with learning watercolour as a beginner. Your a darn awesome gal!
Lindsay, You are awesome! I love the fact that you work so hard to make these videos have real susbstance and value! I always learn so much from you! This was a wonderfully helpful video!
Great list! Even if I'm not beginner anymore, I still confuse browns so often, I have only few browns, so I often need to find substitute. I really appreciate that you made this list available for free!
This is so helpful, Lindsay. I found the names for Inktense blocks at Jerry's Artarama. Now I can find substitutes for all the colors you mention in tutorials.
Lindsay! Thank you so much for this very generous chart. Ohhhh I wish I would have had it a few years back when I was first starting out in watercolour, but nevertheless, I have downloaded and will keep it within arms reach. I remember at the beginning, feeling discouraged when a TH-cam video would call for a colour I didn’t have and I would give up and not paint along. This chart will be helpful for all level of painters. (Thanks to my watercolour obsession-I pretty much have all the colours now!)
Great timing on this subject. The only watercolors I own are Jane Davenports. I love them but the names are not helpful for following your tutorials. I ended up on her website and downloaded her list with the pigment numbers. With your list as well I should be able to follow along. Thanks Lindsey 😊
My favorite teacher on TH-cam! Thank you. I need a lesson on putting the paint on the metal palette. You make it look so easy in the lesson-how to paint a carnation, but when I try putting paint on the metal, it's like chasing a ball of mercury. Any tips?
Wash the palette with dish soap to remove any greese, I'd that didn't work use a magic eraser on it. Then the paint will spread and not bead. The more you use a palette the better it gets!
So helpful! I had not heard I could add white to get granulation. I suspect that would reduce the transparency a little? Thanks! By the way, to others who read the comments, the Essentials of Watercolor class she mentions is a good class.
Wowzie how awesome you are the best. Being new at painting not having much as far as anything Lol especially paint though be nice to have. Thanks so much. Love your channel always learn something each one you do ❤

Thank you, Lindsay. This is great even for those of us who have been painting for awhile. This took some time for you to compile. Very much appreciated.
Back again to say, I pulled out my Jane Davenport paints and you used your guide and it works perfectly. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
