    I appreciate you responding. Your video was fantastic. My left arm is partially paralyzed & working w/ my gimbal head is a wrestling match. I think birds scatter bc I’m wrestling with the camera on the tripod. One of my 18-3000mm lens has become an accordion lens bc when I was using a ball head it face planted😳😢 I can’t have that happen w/ my 150-600 or any lens. The video shows how the Whimberly head is easy to use. I’ve spent a lot to get what I have. So I will check it out. Thank you 4 the video& most importantly taking the time. It means a lot. Fingers crossed I can figure something out. Thank you sir.🙏

    I received the question as to what monopod I use, I have used a Carbon Fiber Gitzo G1588mk.

    Bought the Wimberley Gimbal for my Ifootage monopod, great combination and thanks for the video even though i've had mine for a while always good to see how other people work.

    Thanks. I use a ball head with it in portrait position out to the side after seeing this. So much steadier.

    Great video! I actually bought the wimberly then returned it, but think I may rebuy it again now what I see how it works.
    So if I want to use it with a Z8 that I just got with a smaller lens that doesn’t have L bracket what do I do? Can you show what setup would work for that?

    • @tv510
      @tv510  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks for watching Lillie. The best way to use this head is to attach it to the lens ring/foot. It is built for longer lenses that have a lens ring/foot. The L bracket goes on the camera and while it works, I have found that it is best to use it on the lens ring/foot, it gives you much more control.

    Where did you get your replacement foot with built in arca Swiss plate? I just got one from b&w photo (Kirk lens collar for Nikon z8 180-600 lens) for $265!!! Seems crazy to me! If you know of a cheaper option please let me know! Thanks and love your video - good information and easy to follow 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

      The complete foot is the best way to go, but I bought at small plate from Really Right Stuff and I just thread it on. Here is the link: MPR-73 from Really Right Stuff. reallyrightstuff.com/mpr73/ You can see it on my review of the 180 to 600 lens where I use that foot, here on TH-cam th-cam.com/video/l4fVk5sswIs/w-d-xo.html

      @tv510 The problem with the replacement Kirk lens collar for Nikon z8 180-600 lens is, it doesn't have the spaces around the collar (as the one the lens comes with does) where you can use those "threading" openings for a black rapid strap or other strap directly on the lens collar. Sorry if I am not describing this in the best way! But if you look at the kirk lens collar vs. the collar that comes with the 180-600 you will see what I mean. Just wanted to get your thoughts on that if you have any. Thanks so much!👍

      Hi Lille, I don't have access to the Kirk lens collar to make that comparison. Sorry. If it doesn't work, I'd return it and just get a plate like I used in the video. @@lillebrowning2231

    I'm considering buying a monopod for my bird photography (I'm getting older and that big lens is getting heavier!) but I'm concerned about its efficacy for birds in flight. Any thoughts?

    • @tv510
      @tv510  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Becky, while it works for birds in flight, you have to be pretty good to track them, as you are on your own for following them. If you find a nest, maybe setting up and capturing them taking off might be good, or walking in the woods for a fast set up. I however, use a tripod and a good gimbal head to lay in wait for them. That seems to work for me. Good luck and thanks for watching!

    So this is no different to tilting the ball head to one side, or a very similar concept

    • @tv510
      @tv510  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is a similar concept but it has a bit more control where you need it and a lot less weight. Paired with the lens collar it can be a very useful device. Thanks for watching!

    Hi Terry this is very helpful but what happens if you want to use it with a smaller lens which does not have a tripod collar?

    • @tv510
      @tv510  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Prash, if you don’t have a lens collar, it does not work as a gimbal, meaning you do get that third axis of movement. But a smaller camera can be clipped by the base of the camera for vertical formatted images.

      You can use an L-Bracket on the camera. Briefly mentioned starting at around 3 minutes into video.

    I know you're talking about Wimberly, and they make great items but... what's your thought on using a good ballhead in portrait mode as a gimbal???

    • @tv510
      @tv510  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      In this instance it mostly about weight. The ball heads that I use (Really Right Stuff) are heavy.

    It’s a great gimbal head, but it’s over £400

      This mono gimbal head is less than the regular Wimberley Gimbal head, I just looked it up and its $179 US - (not sure how that converts) tripodhead.com/products/monopodhead-main.cfm

      I know, right? I wish. I use all of their products and people ask me about them while I'm shooting so why not?
