  • We left Tokyo in a hurry because Typhoon Hagabis was coming. So we spend a day extra in Kanazawa. This city surprised us in so many ways. A small peaceful city with a lovely rural feeling. There are a lot of beautiful things to see en do. But what we loved the most was one of the Three Great Gardens of Japan, Kenroku-en. Opened to the public in 1871 this beautiful landscaped garden features a variety of flowering trees which provides the garden with a different look each season. Strolling around Kenroku-en you’ll find water features, bridges, teahouses, trees, flowers stones, different viewpoints and hidden nooks. You could spend hours in this garden without ever getting enough of it. Such a peaceful place. In front of this breathtaking garden you’ll find the Kanazawa Castle. In this partially restored castle you can see various gates, two turrets and a long warehouse. Inside the castle you can visit the museum where you can see how they rebuild the castle. You have also great views from the turrets.
Another must see while in Kanazawa is in our opinion is the Myoryu-ji, also known as Ninja temple. This Buddhist temple has nothing to do with ninja’s but earns it’s name because of it’s many deceptive defences. Unfortunately we weren’t allowed to take any photo. If you have some time left you can also stop by the 21st Century Museum of Modern Art. We really enjoyed this museum. Before leaving Kanazawa take a good look at the train station. One of japans most beautiful ones.
