    • @rileyjones3703

True fact. In fact Thriller as an album was how I finally came to understand the true definition of what they called a "pop record" in that day. It finally made sense, it was about the collective: bringing the right people in for the right material to make something truly unforgettable.
It may have been Michael Jackson's, nay the world's all-time greatest selling album, but the musicians truly made that album.

This has been one of my favorite Michael Jackson songs since I was a child and now it might be my favorite or the second one after Billie Jean. I remember how hard it hit me when John Mayer played an instrumental version on the guitar at Michael's funeral. What a beautiful composition, thanks Steve and Michael for giving us such a sublime masterpiece.

David Paitch wrote the lyrics to Africa. Band wrote the music. They were mixing Africa in the control room while Steve was out in the studio writing Human Nature. That's a productive evening. Africa was the very last song to make it on to Toto 4. It was more a pet project to Paitch. The other guys didnt think it belonged. Crazy huh!

It always seems that behind every great song that was ever written there's always a wonderful story about that song and how it almost never made the album but through some divine intervention or through happenstance it does and goes on to become a timeless classic. These stories have inspired so many other artist and musicians and more of these stories need to be told as a testament to the wonderful musicians that brought these songs to life and into our psyches. Great stuff!!

I missed those days of the cassette and cassette recorders; especially with auto-reverse. I like the CD but that hiss from those cassettes; timeless. Even when Tascam came out with those cassette mixers; my favorite was the 644. The recording of our band was so much fun back then. I can only imagine what Steve and David were doing back in those days. Human Nature is a masterpiece!😌🎶🎹❤️👍🏾
