Great shave as usual, Michael. I saw your interview with mantic59. I think you said that you may make a shave den video since there have been request from others. Also requesting that you do that also. I only follow Kensurfs, PaulH, Kevy Shaves, Joe from Queens, and you channel on a regular basis. I always look forward to watching you guys. Out of the 5 shaving videos, you are the only one who has not done a shave den tour. Really would love to see that.
Great shave Michael. Yes, I'm a BIG fan of Abbate Y La Mantia soaps...a joy to use. I'm curious about the change in the splash though. I would have thought that alcohol derived from barley would still sting as much as one from another grain for a given concentration. It is still ethanol / grain alcohol at the end of the day. Maybe they dialed back the volume of alcohol included in the splash to make it a bit more comfortable in use?
I am not sure, but I am going to ask them for more details and I will let you know what I find out from them. I love the fact that they, like so many other artisans, are not content to rest on their laurels, or should I say their Laureatos, but keep pushing to improve their products. Sometimes that comes at a cost (price), but that's fine -- you get what you pay for!!
Oh well 53 is amazing , I started my 74 use a week before your's Michael and its still going , but my whiskers aren't as tough as your's , I don't think . Abbate Y La Mantia is just a beautiful soap , rich and creamy . Great shave ! Have a Great Week !
Hi Michael- Great shave and soap review; thank you! Thanks for the update on the new AyLaM soap base, as well; much appreciated, as always! I hope you had a nice Independence Day🇺🇸 and have a great week ahead. All the best, Michael!
No worries, and thanks so much for watching! No fireworks for us this year, but hotdogs and hamburgers on the grill did us just fine, along with some watermelon and blueberries and ice cream cones.
Excellent, excellent soap review, Michael! I really appreciate that you've taken the time to explain the lather and the differences in soap bases. I think that sometimes vegan soap bases get a bum rap. I have many shaving soaps that range the whole spectrum of bases and find that while I enjoy many tallow soaps, there truly are some vegan soap bases that more than hold their own. The P74 bit the dust after only 53 shaves! lol That's very respectable regardless of the vintage! Cheers! -Rob
I am glad that made sense, I think people tend to think of only certain styles of lather as the good ones, and we all know that is just not true. So many great vegan options out there! 53 shaves - not too shabby! Great value for the per-blade price, that's for damn sure!
Loading or loathering (is that a word?) bowl...😉 I tried Krokos by Abbate Y La Mantia a few years back, had to pass it on, expensive and for me not great. Maybe the other choices in the line are, may revisit🤔 For me this morning, Panna Creama Nuavia Blu and a Rocnel Elite MA razor.. flawless. Nuavia soap is outstanding although expensive. Great video Michael with review and comments as always 👍 Enjoy!
Michael Freedberg we could come up with some cool hashtag and tag panacrema on twitter , ig, youtube reddit etc. I suggest #panacremarefillsnow hmmm no you come up with a better one
I also have this Maggard razor head, had it shipped to the UK more than a year ago from Canada. Not that expensive, but I have yet to use it once. I've heard it's unmistakably on the assertive side, and that one needs to ensure that the blade exposure is equal on both sides. I can live with the latter. It's the former, the "efficiency" that always makes me avoid using it. Strange for I shave every other day, and I'm partial to relatively assertive razors. As for today's soap: this is crème de la crème in artisan soap making, as is anything by this brand/maker. I appreciate it, (I think) I would like something of theirs, but I'm not there yet to splash on this price-wise. Cheers Michael.
It has more blade feel than the DE89, but nothing more than that -- it's aggressive in comparison, but it's only a touch more so. I agree, AYLM is making top shelf soap, and yes, the price is a barrier; I wish it was cheaper, but not sure that is going to happen. Once Laureato comes out in this formula, I am on it, though (saving my pennies now).
Love look of the “jet black” razor head. Ikon also have a black head I think. Did you change something with the audio? Sound seems to have more of an echo from the bathroom than normal - I could be wrong..
Big John! I am not sure how many he ended up getting, but it was way up there. Great blade and I have four more (another 200 shaves?!??). Thanks so much for watching!!
I would say "yes", but with a different face feel than a full fat soap; this just feels lighter on the skin somehow but still with excellent slickness.
50 shaves on one blade? Amazing. Myself, I do three one pass shave then toss it. How do you store your blade between shaves? One old timer trick is store the blade in alcohol. The theory is that water left on the blade causes rust which makes the blade go dull but the alcohol displaces the water preventing that from happening . May help you get your century shave off one blade. Don’t know why you want to do that but you do. Obsessive compulsive disorder?
I just leave the blade in the razor, I do nothing special at all. Danny van Rooyen used to keep his in a light layer of oil, if I remember correctly, and that may have helped keep the blades in good shape. why 100 shaves from 1 blade? The challenge, the thrill of the chase, the agony of defeat!!
If you load directly from the tub and then rinse the soap tin and let it dry upside down, will be a problem with rust inside or outside the tin? Cause in my last shaves and given how many soaps I have, I tend to load heavily, because all the time I being left without any lather in the end of the 3rd pass and I can't complete my overshaving. Of course, I could get back to the puck, but I find it difficult to begin dialing AGAIN the soap on my face, without any hair on it. This Abbate seems good, BUT, way too expensive man. 31 euros? I will say something you have never heard before from me; Give me some Barrister, Declaration, Wholly, anytime for less. I am a tallow hunter too.. I want 4 different kind of tallow in the soap to have a butter-like lather so heavy that I could make a traditional Greek yogurt.
Save some money and just go for the yogurt!! I don't think these containers will rust, but then again I never lather in the container, I always scoop out what I use for the week. I would leave it out to dry without the top and it should be just fine. Those other soaps don't have any saffron or rose hip extract, do they?? Choices, my friend, choices!!
That was a Superb Shave and in depth review Michael. I Really enjoyed it..!!
Thanks so much for watching, glad you enjoyed that!
Hello 👋 Michael very nice 👍 shaves today my buddy 😊😎😃👍
Thanks, and thanks for watching!!

Shave Den Tour? I think that will happen at the end of the year, when things slow down!

53 is not bad at ALL! I have four more, I think one of them will be "the one" :-)

Very nice video Michael, it would have been interesting to try this product, but I don't really like flowers. Good evening my friend!
yes, if you are not a big fan of a floral scent, skip this one, but keep your eyes peeled for the other scents coming back in this base!

Agreed the panacrema is nice. Wish they did refills.
@@Chris-zz8jx Agree 100%
Chris you could start a petition to get them to listen
Nuavia soaps -- also very good, and also a very simple ingredient list!
Letter writing campaign for refills? Sure!!

Not sure, but...I have a new mike to try out this weekend which may offer better, fuller audio -- let me know what you think on Sunday!
Was it Big John that got 100 shaves from a Personna 74? Either way 53 shaves on one blade is still phenomenal. Loving the videos Michael.
Big John! I am not sure how many he ended up getting, but it was way up there. Great blade and I have four more (another 200 shaves?!??). Thanks so much for watching!!
Hi Michael, does the soap also have good cushion?
I would say "yes", but with a different face feel than a full fat soap; this just feels lighter on the skin somehow but still with excellent slickness.
Hi Michael greetings from Italy
Hello Michele, greetings from beautiful North Carolina!

Hahaha! I laughed out loud here! I will go for the yogurt! :-) No, they don't! You are right!
$34 for 5oz tin, YIKES!!
Yeah, it's not cheap stuff here in the States...
