    Wow. 51 years after George Harrison led me to Ravi Shankar, Allah Raka, Ali Akbar Khan, I’m now led to the source of it all: the Veena and her prime disciple, S Balachander. I’m a very lucky music lover. Thank you for the upload. I’ll be hearing lots more, that’s a fact.
    Words fall short to describe the beauty of this music and instrument and its interpreter.

      You must hear Thanjavur k p sivanandam andsarada sivanandam veena duet. Then k.b. narayanaswamy veena and Karaikudi Samba Siva Iyer veena records sir. Real music is not too much sound .
      He is not prime disciple.

    Carnatic music focusses on laya, by means of the system of talam. Through the expressed music ( ahata) , it deliberately tickles the anahata nadam residing in the heart of every man. The rhythm inside each soul is established in synchrony with the rhythm of the universe. It is clearly evident in the expressions of Sri Balachander garu that he is a true nadopasaka, who is getting into layam. A music that comes from such a nadopasaka floods every corner of us with bliss!

    • @Śiśna3633
      @Śiśna3633 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sir, is this thing written in somewhere like Sangeetha sastra? The best explanation that gives me complete satisfaction. "Synchrony with the rhythm of the universe philosophy" permeates all of Indic culture. What an advanced thought that no other cultures have. Only now physicists are talking about the tuned universe.
      th-cam.com/video/yDqny7UzyR4/w-d-xo.html
      Ahata and Anahata explain why I am not taken much to Hindustani music.
      The same thing goes for harmony versus melody. When I listen to harmony-based music, my brain becomes uneasy. I believe this a trait we all south Asians have, otherwise our music system would have incorporated it.

    The term 'All Rounder' , primarily used in cricket, has one of the best personifications in S Balachander. An Absolute Genius in the true sense of the term ! Mastery over so many fields in film making, such as direction, story, production, music (of course), etc. Also, the creativity was so well reflected in his making of completely different set of movies. Also, we should measure anyone's achievements by the times in which they lived in and the challenges and limitations of such times. Considering these factors, SB was truly an outstanding All Rounder in every sense of the definition !! Salutes to SB !!!

    The mridangam is so subtle n not roaring like in the concerts..obliterating the singer's voice! We are able to enjoy each swar because it is clearly audible however softly he is playing it. ..the shuddha madhyam is soooo divine.... appearing in between the other swar and teevra madhyam... it gvs a heavenly aura to this raag

    I grew up listening to Guru Shri Veena S Balachander. While we do not have him in person, those who are interested in his style of playing may want to check out Ramana Balachandran - young with the same kind of passion. Krishna Nee Begane - when there is so much bakti poured into rendition - Krishna will surely come fast. I have heard Guruji play this so many time and it is new each time.

    Most of the ornamentations are not possible in Veena with electric pickup. Especially krintan and zamzama, very typical surbahar and sitar.The lateral meend is very similar to surbahar, a dhrupad instrument, also the predecessor of sitar. His penchant for space and atmospherics is very unlike a typical carnatic concert. He must be inspired by many musical genres beyond our comprehension. And yes, the mridangam accompaniment is outstanding and carries the subtle music with utmost care.

    Sri Balachander is truly mesmerizing to both hear and to see! The long alap sounds more Hindusthani to me than the Carnatic form, to which I have far less exposure, so this may be due to my shortcoming. Also interesting that he plucks the tala pakkareku strings with his thumb, not the usual technique for the vina. Can someone speak to his style and influences and whether the long alap and its style is atypical for Carnatic music?
