Why is EVERYTHING on scooters so difficult and involved to work on? I think they do it on purpose. Nothing like removing every screw, bolt, seal and connector to remove a panel to remove the engine to remove the transmission to remove the frame... so you can change a brake light bulb. 😂

Most Vespa 150 repairs are pretty straightforward, as long as body work isn't involved. But THIS fix for a simple clock battery is, indeed, absolutely absurd. And the clock the battery powers is chintzy, somewhat prone to failure, and expensive to replace ($45+) unless you buy from overseas (a mere $25).

Dear Mitch, I am a motorcyclist owning 5 motorcycles but being grown in Italy when 50cc scooters ruled this market, I even have a scooter - a Vespa LX 150. I owned a Honda Joker and a Px125 before and my first road trip ever was on the Honda. Now I'm preparing my Vespa for a tour in Germany next September. I changed its clock's battery thanks to your video. Thanks a lot scooter brother!

Just a public service announcement -- on my 2012 LX150 i.e. there are 2 washers under each of the side view mirror stems. When you twist to remove them, the washers will tend to go flying unless you are careful and pull the stems up exactly straight. If they go flying, they will drop inside and land who-knows-where, leaving you to go and have to hunt them down, lest they end up somewhere untoward, lol. Otherwise, THANK YOU for this informative video! My clock died a while ago, and I've struggled with whether 'the juice is worth the squeeze' in replacing the coin cell battery, but this video has given me a little more confidence if I decide to tackle the project.

Fun fact about the front Piaggio emblem: the hexagonal shape you find removing it is actually the shape of the Piaggio logo/emblem. They make Vespa logos like this for no apparent reason, maybe just to cut down production costs using the same machinery, even if the emblem used on Vespas has a totally different shape. They do the same on Gilera's emblems, I used to have a Runner 50 and a Runner 180, that's how I noticed that. Dunno why that's so interesting to me...

I recently did this but found it's slightly easier to leave the rear handlebar cowling in place and just remove the clocks from it. 4 screws hold them in place, easily accessible once the front handlebar cowling is removed.
Less work than undoing all the rear cowling mounts imo.
