The Tech-Priests are a mystery cult, which is the exact opposite of scientific progress. They intentionally partition, conceal, and hide away data from their rivals, rather than sharing the information. Forge-Worlds don't have specialisations due to the availability of natural resources or the specific talents of their fabricator-generals; they are specialised because they have to make do with what they have, and must bargain with more powerful Forges for anything else. The Imperial Guard is intentionally crippled, Regiments forced to specialise in order to make rebellion less likely; but this cripples them whenever the politics of the officer corps fails to create a clear chain of command or obstructs the necessary cooperation between infantry, armor, artillery, and air support... Which would be 'most of the time'. The Imperial Navy is similarly crippled, the main example being the deficit of Imperial strike craft due to the Gareox Prerogative in M36. Basically, a subset of the admiralty wanted to shift to a carrier-based doctrine for strategic reasons, but politics led to a civil war which ultimately tainted the concept of carriers to the point that they are still, in M42, still relegated to a secondary role, despite how strategically vital they are - especially against the swarm tactics of the Tyranid Hive Fleets. Power is simultaneously centralised and decentralised in the worst possible way; a horrible, ineffective, inefficient mess which is explicitly the result of byzantine politics exaggerated to interstellar levels. Overall it is good but like everything with multiple writers, over multiple years, it has also gathered a few low points and very questionable decisions and retcons. If you stick to the early stuff it is great. Still worth reading a few newer books but a lot more are worth skipping.

And because the genes have to be kept pure some imbreeding is going on. Probably also 1 of the reasons why navigators tend to have very weak and frail bodies. Theyre at the same time very powerfull because theyre the only ones who can provide navigators and at the same time not. Their excistance only keeps happening so long as they keep politicians happy. So basicly they have to stay in the good graces of others in power. But seeing as how important they are it takes a very powerfull (and stupid) person to do away with them.

Actually a perfect vacuum is also a perfect insulator so you wouldn't have to worry about the ship going cold, quite the opposite, there's a reason why space suits have cooling systems built into them. So given long enough and assuming the eventual degradation of whatever radiators exist on the hull of the ship, perhaps the very hull itself, the inside of the ship would become warmer and warmer until you're boiled alive, so long as the power source remains operational of course. Though it's potentially possible for your very own body to cook itself in a vacuum, though the likelihood of that happening within the atmosphere of the ship is minuscule, more likely than not you'd die of dehydration long before anything else.

Psykers are actually much more common, closer to one in a million for the average range of them. The one in a billion are the Delta and Gamma level psykers, who are extremely high on the assignment chart. These are individuals on par with a talented Space Marine Librarian. Lower level psykers are just easier to blend into normal society without being noticed beyond their close family. It is still very difficult to fill the black ships quotas, as there will usually only be a handful of psykers being held for sacrifice by a planet's government at any given time, but they show up regularly.
I wonder how the logistics got started in the beginning ? Like you snap your fingers & a fleet 2nd only to the Imperiums Imperial Navy appear & a 1000 psykers. It seems like decades if not centuries would’ve been needed & wonder what would’ve happen when the Emperor didn’t have psykers in the beginning

The dark age was during the birth of the imperium. They weren't crossing long distances among the stars then as far as I understand it. I would too like to know how they achieved warp travel prior to this living Beacon.

You are thinking of the age of strife which started somewhere around 23k and ended roughly around the birth of Slaanesh, and BigE's coming out party. Exact timelines are speculated.
Possibly they relied on AI linked to Navigators, compounded by Immaterium being far calmer than in the age of Imperium. Another possibility is that most of traffic was not using FTL travel, but was running slower than light and ships were generation ships or (most of the) crew was kept in stasis. But for Age of Strife FTL through Immaterium was practically impossible

Something that could not be redeveloped now. Fact is we don't know and we never will unless they decide to delve into that part of the lore someday. Overall it is good but like everything with multiple writers, over multiple years, it has also gathered a few low points and very questionable decisions and retcons.
If you stick to the early stuff it is great. Still worth reading a few newer books but a lot more are worth skipping.

One thing I could never quite resolve in my mind is with all the anti-psycher measures in place, wouldn’t it be extremely difficult if not impossible for the navigators to…well, navigate?
Navigators perform this task in special chambers in the ships built to protect them against outside influence, so even with a Black Ship’s level of psychic interference they probably have even stronger rooms for Navigators to operate properly.
Navigators are also special. Theyre sort of like a designed mutation. And their excistance is tied directly to navigator houses who are the only ones afforded the right to...er....breed them. And because the genes have to be kept pure some imbreeding is going on. Probably also 1 of the reasons why navigators tend to have very weak and frail bodies.
Theyre at the same time very powerfull because theyre the only ones who can provide navigators and at the same time not. Their excistance only keeps happening so long as they keep politicians happy. So basicly they have to stay in the good graces of others in power. But seeing as how important they are it takes a very powerfull (and stupid) person to do away with them.

Actually a perfect vacuum is also a perfect insulator so you wouldn't have to worry about the ship going cold, quite the opposite, there's a reason why space suits have cooling systems built into them. So given long enough and assuming the eventual degradation of whatever radiators exist on the hull of the ship, perhaps the very hull itself, the inside of the ship would become warmer and warmer until you're boiled alive, so long as the power source remains operational of course. Psykers are actually much more common, closer to one in a million for the average range of them. The one in a billion are the Delta and Gamma level psykers, who are extremely high on the assignment chart. These are individuals on par with a talented Space Marine Librarian. Lower level psykers are just easier to blend into normal society without being noticed beyond their close family.
It is still very difficult to fill the black ships quotas, as there will usually only be a handful of psykers being held for sacrifice by a planet's government at any given time, but they show up regularly.
I wonder how the logistics got started in the beginning ? Like you snap your fingers & a fleet 2nd only to the Imperiums Imperial Navy appear & a 1000 psykers. It seems like decades if not centuries would’ve been needed & wonder what would’ve happen when the Emperor didn’t have psykers in the beginning

You are thinking of the age of strife which started somewhere around 23k and ended roughly around the birth of Slaanesh, and BigE's coming out party. Exact timelines are speculated.
Possibly they relied on AI linked to Navigators, compounded by Immaterium being far calmer than in the age of Imperium. Another possibility is that most of traffic was not using FTL travel, but was running slower than light and ships were generation ships or (most of the) crew was kept in stasis. But for Age of Strife FTL through Immaterium was practically impossible
@@Jfk2Mr yeah I suspect same, an AI that was able to navigate the warp once warp engines were developed. Perhaps some kind of artificial astronomicon existed before the age of strife. Something that could not be redeveloped now.
Fact is we don't know and we never will unless they decide to delve into that part of the lore someday.
I like to speculate with the theories though see what else other people may think up.

A 'lack of reputation' is an understatement for them. The dev's parent company makes slot machines. They literally created RAID to reach markets that slot machines legally cannot.
