    As a groomer and border collie owner myself, I know how long a full groom can take on a collie. I would have done exactly the same. She looks beautiful. Great job !👍🥰

      Our Little Bo Peep and her boyfriend JackBNimble got groomed. She got a bow on her head and he got a bandana. I doubt if it was their choices, but they put up with them because they were so good there. I wish I could've afforded to get his mother Tess groomed too, but she loved it when I bathed her in my tub, talked to and sang to her as I gave her kisses since she was a young pup. Bo Peep's cousin/BFF, Gypsy Rose Lee hated what she hated dog clothes, even bows, head bands, etc.

    We got our first Border Collie as a pup 4 years ago and I've been learning so much about his grooming. This video is great and is super helpful. He has a long rough coat and it's a real challenge to keep him mat-free and combed out. These super fluffy BCs need help de shedding their undercoat so that they can regulate their temps better. Thanks so much for sharing this to help newbies like me!

    I brush out my collie every Saturday with dry shampoo and detangler. Every 4-6 weeks I give her a full grooming and it takes me at least that long. It just takes forever to dry her hair 😭 but she’s so fluffy and soft afterwards and absolutely beautiful so it’s worth it. The shedding NEVER STOOPPSSS

    Exactly correct! 3 hours of grooming but worth it. They look beautiful and feel better. Too bad there isn't a way to make a sweater out of that hour....My border collie was patience and enjoyed the grooming but hour 3 she is looking at me like: Are we done yet?

    My boy loves being brushed. But as soon as I try to get him into the tub, he's done and there is no way he will let me near him with a dryer or scissors. What's the magic trick?

    • @dlakcapetgrooming1748
      @dlakcapetgrooming1748  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The magic trick is probably because dogs behaves different when they're with me. Different person,different surroundings. Just like kids at kinder garden. And as a person you must be confident, determined and calm. That also is important with working with them, because the dog can read your energy and they will obey more,they will be easy to handle with.

    Unless the dog has sheep tics or fleas or some other parasitic insect in its fur, I don't quite understand why it is being subjected to this intensive grooming. Border collies, which belong to a working breed, naturally have an undercoat - it doesn't need to be taken out like this nor is this a good idea. The dog's most likely reaction to this will be to roll in something smelly to try and re-establish its own scent... I've had border collies in my home for over 20 years and I've never groomed one of them.

    • @dlakcapetgrooming1748
      @dlakcapetgrooming1748  3 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      Regardless of the breed, every dog with a undercoat needs to be combed. This ventilates the dog's fur and ensures better well-being, as it is less hot in summer and warmer in winter due to the air that comes between the skin and the hair (air is the best insulator). The care lasted longer because the owners did not drive her to care regularly and there was therefore more undercoat. I hope you now understand this way of care better.

      My border gets mats in his fur if he's not groomed every few days, especially around the rump. He's permanently filthy and often wet, but I brush him in the evening, when he's dry. It's a great bonding activity too - he loves it and rolls over for me to do the other side.

      @@jasperplays9010 Little Bo Peep would run off as soon- as she was washed outside-and roll in a dirt mound, which is why I washed her inside. If we had sheep, she would've rolled in a pile of sheep droppings! JackBNimble didn't and let his beautiful fur dry. He was thick and curly coated like his dad. His mother Tess's was long and silky. Her previous owner said it was good to wash and brush her, but not to overdo it.

    • @virginiaconnor8350
      @virginiaconnor8350 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Most of the BCs I knew on the farm were I adopted my Tess were well taken care of and looked great. Most farmers with sheep dogs didn't have the money to take all their dogs to groomers anyway. No puppy-mill crap; they were working dogs who herded cows and sheep, the females not having to constantly breed pups to keep up with the demand the AKC wanted for show dogs (like the Aussies). Showing here meant demonstrating their herding skills, not merely walking around in a circle, showing how pretty the Poodle or handsome the Afghan looked with their owner. Dr. Llewellyn, Tess's vet, was told. He said they also wanted him to dock his BCs' tails and even minaturise the dogs like they do to the Aussies for qualification in the AKC. He refused and joined another group. Tess and her son belonged to NASDSA and my Bo Peep and Gypsy to the BCCA. They're all gone over the Rainbow Bridge since '18 and I miss them.

    Making a show dog out of a working dog! I think I preferred him before the three hour grooming session. He could have spent that time out on the field or retrieving a tennis ball.

    • @dlakcapetgrooming1748
      @dlakcapetgrooming1748  3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      The purpose of care is not to make a dog show, but only basic care, which means combing the undercoat, cutting the hair for easier combing (around the legs), and shortening the claws for easier and proper walking. The care is such that the owners can do it at home, only that the care in the salon is performed more precisely.

    Is this a show grooming or what? I don't like the shampooing.
    I've had 4 Border collies, live in a farm with hens, ducks and sheep. In these 23 years I've showered just one of them carefully in cold water because she had rolled herself in som ugly things she found in one of her "wandering" expeditions into the wood and smelled like carcass. She didn't do it again. She was a long-fured lady and never rolled in sheep droppings, duck dropping and whatsoever.
    Our dogs has always slept in the foot end of our beds with an extra sheet there. Never smelly but full of sand and earth witch had dried during the night.
    Sometimes they crawled up beside us during the night, but we never could smell anything else than the wonderful smell of their paws. All different from one another.
    I liked your video in the first part but decided to unlike it because of the bathing. But it is your own choise and I repect that. But my reaction is because it isn't healthy to shapooing Border collies. And about the undercoat... if your dog is out in rain or harsh weather they will need it, because the oil they produce themselves, is to withstand it and keep themselves healthy.
    For information we grome our dogs regularly, and in the season of sheding once a week
    No offence, just informations.

      @@angmac7089 Besides, I thought cats bathed themselves anyway. My brother's orange tabby, Fugue, liked baths in the sink. Maybe, it's because my younger brother started her when she was young too. She was a sweet cat and smart too. She and my Aussie/BC Gem girl both loved baths and Gem would get in the hall bathroom tub and lie there, waiting for me to give her a bath or tell her she didn't need one and hop out of it and herd (nudge in the hips) me downstairs to the kitchen for dinner.
