    Thank you soooo much for your video! I just returned from sick leave as I was diagnosed of serious depression. I was literally burned out after one year of working full time and doing part time PhD at the same time. I do feel a lot better now after the break and I finally realised that working like a non-stop machine is just not going to work for me. Thanks for all the advice. Hopefully that’s my first and last burnout during my entire PhD period.

    one difficult thing I'm dealing with is the highs and lows of research. I can have really promising results one day, and my supervisors and other people in the field are really interested, but then the next day I'll get feedback about something else that isn't very good and it really plunges me into a low

    I have started to develop the feeling of general apathy towards my topic in my third year of my Ph.D. Now, I know it's burnout, and what to anticipate! Thank you

    Thanks for this video, Andy! You really have an extraordinary knack of hitting the nail on the head!
    I am literally just testing evolutionary theory as a yardstick for measuring the success of pop groups!!! Darwin worked at species (pop grouo) level, whereas Dawkins works at gene (song) level!! And from there, there is the meme!!! Lolol!
    As for burn out, everything you say is really helpful. I haven't reached burn out, yet. But you've given me the heads up on the red flags, when I'm sure they will arise and most importantly, how to tackle them.

    My parents told me to complete PhD in one day. They are crazy. They pressured me, forced me, putting many negative thoughts in my mind. Is ok they did not support me. But they need to stop pressuring me. I am currently in my 2nd year

    Hi! Thanks as always for fantastic content. Have you ever said anything about corresponding authors? How does it work? Does it depend on your level? If you re phd, post doc, professor or whatever

    What about when you find your topic useless, you think the university has taught you anything, and you think your advisor is useless ( more an obstacle than an advisor). Moreover, everyone is quitting in your lab and your mind is telling you that you are wasting your time over the last 2 years.

      What did you do?

    • @Grmmnslv
      @Grmmnslv 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@grumpy-bb I am looking for a job. I will finish my thesis part-time. My advisor can not let another student quit his lab with no degree, which will affect his department position. However, My dissertation will be like my "Doctoral Exam/Thesis proposal presentation" where the jury was composed of friends of my advisor with No idea/Experience about my topic (like a group of experts in power electronics judging a Computer vision research).
