I learned to stick weld from my grandpa that only ever used a car battery in his garage. Try it, promise a car battery is way easier to move around and a lot cheaper than all that you have on the table. I admit what he did wasn’t precision welding. But in a pinch it got the job done.
@@Kk385Esab is awesome, I run their 235 multi process welder at work and it's smooth as silk, super stable arc at low amps on TIG, and I have a lot of hours on it with no issues.
Impatiently waiting for the Milwaukee version. Scared it will never happen cause I’m guessing that uses the 60v circuit of those batteries in series to make 240v
It's possible with a simple upconverter inside the system or it could utilize additional batteries in series. MFG would be hesitant to release additional versions too quickly because of R&D sink though
I excuse a novice producer with thinking annoying music helps them But this is a seasoned professional outfit Please stop with that music, Ian , your voice is all the music I need
I've used the 4 battery DeWalt power inverter and one of the cheap 110v IGBT stick welders a few times when I needed to weld something out of range of any outlets. Definitely not a pro type setup, but it worked.
Most of my welding is 100ft from an engine drive. I'm waiting for us to be handed one of these and an extra set of batteries, especially when we're working in an area where they don't want the engine noise/exhaust. One question is when you're running it on 110V, can it recharge the batteries when you're not welding?
From what I've read the batteries do not recharge while on board the machine and plugged into 110. The fronius machine does have that feature. That said, I have never been impressed with the 6010 performance on fronius machines.
Firman 9000 watt tri fuel generator $900. Everlast multiprocess 251si 250 amp inverter mig/tig/stick $1500. Bottle, wire, extension cords, etc. Still lots of money left for hair gel.
Yeah I carry the everlast unit up ladders with the 100' extension cord and 100' air line while the bottle and generator sit on my truck. The 251si is just over 100lbs with a 33lb spool. No different than any other guy running a lincoln ranger or miller bobcat with a suitcase unit just cheaper I guess.
I like this for guys who only have access to 110V in their garage but need to weld thicker material from time to time. (Been there) I wish this had a MIG function as well. I'm guessing that is in the works at some level at ESAB.
Legitimately considering this as a alternative to the situation I got going now running extension cords almost 50 ft. To the shed. I mean got plenty of DeWalt batteries. If I can finance the machine, it's like a good idea before I know it can pay for itself if I can continue working without you know worrying
It'd be awesome if you could pick the brand batteries you use. I have an abundance of milwaukee and ryobi. Which I'm sure they use the flexvolts so they can configure it to get 120 volts
It would be nice. Depending on how the battery pack module is setup, if it is in series, this welder can draw full battery voltage out of the flexvolt batteries at 240 volts. In series parallel, that would be 120 which Milwaukee can't match.
pretty cool to use batteries, I wonder why they did not make this Ac tig as well? probably because its not used on main grid, they could of made it have a plug in the wall feature where it could be able to do AC etc. So maybe a ac version is in the works maybe.
@@BigTireGarage yeah it would be heavy as hell though. Most field repair is non aluminum anyway, so this makes the most sense. Im sure after a while other companies will do this and the price will come down a bit.
And can anyone guess why they went with DeWalt? Well I'll tell you, DeWalt batteries are some of the best because they are actively balanced during charging unlike most other big brands charging systems.
Ian, you stated the batteries were fully charged when you jammed them in the gas bucket but the battery indicator showed 36%. What was up with that? @1:34 in the video for reference. Hope your lil' doggo's doing well. Cheers!
so what capacity are the batteries: 9Ah or 12Ah ? Looks like 12Ah, impressive you can stickweld at 200A, with only 48Ah (at 20V), but it neatly explains the 15min runtime.
I understand that you have to do commercials, but make it include your builds so it’s more interesting. We follow you cause of the cool stuff you build.
at about 1 min 35 seconds after you put in 4 brand new batteries, it appears as though the batteries show 36% of a charge? Are there higher capacity batteries avaialble for use with the machine?
The biggest question would be, when the voltage gets low on the batteries, does it hurt the machine if you do that over and over again since its not a consistent power supply? Also what if you dont have tools that take dewalt batteries, do they make adapters for like Milwaukee batteries? Great for offroad use and light repair for sure. However i wont want to buy a complete seperate set of batteries and charger when i run Milwaukee brand.
And you forgot to include the price. Or if you did, I didn't hear It in the video. And so far, I haven't been able to find it under online source either or Canada. When you get a chance, can you please clarify how much it cost? Thank you for your time keep up to great work.
The Fronius welder has internal batteries, when it dies you have to plug itvin for a couple hours to charge. This one has the Dewalt Bats sonyou can keep swapping batteries and keep welding
It is cool but I can never see it being worth the cost. $3,600 for it is stupid expensive. I would convert my exsisting welder to be battery operated for way less cost.

@@BigTireGarageI run everything on the dewalt flexvolt system, really happy with it, but you need to keep in mind the batteries need to cool down before charging after intensive use, takes an extra half hour in my experience...
great way to destroy your tool batteries. They were never designed to handle those high amp draws, batteries wont last two years. Depleteing the batteries repeatedly, it will destroy cells, and the battery will not be allowed to charge, making it into a brick.
And I’m an all dewalt guy, so when not welding those batteries are gold! This setup is killer!!!

It's the same with nudie movies
Funny. I have two dewalt power stations and a compact tig/arc welder. Wonder where they got the idea from
