    For best results, place the CSL on the hot embers after you have burned a regular fire. Never place the CSL on an active fire. I have a large half moon fireplace and they work. But it requires only the log to burn in hot embers and the rising gas change the creosote to a flake. A hot active fire doesn't allow the gas to work.

      It doesn't show those directions on the box clearly. But it does state clearly that results may vary. It's just another no accountability situation on behalf of the company... We're getting used to this over the last couple of years...but we should always read the directions booklet on the inside before voting..uh, I mean using a CSL.

    Back in the day, before fancy chimney sweeping logs, they used to burn their potato peelings regularly to prevent and remove build up. I guess the potato starch is what made it work maybe, I don't know.

    you didn't follow the instructions but it still helped. It clearly said not to put on open flame but put on hot embers. Though for such a small stove I'd probably just manually clean it and not bother with those logs, seems gimmicky

    Hey Post cool video on the CLS - Just wondering like others & correct me if I’m wrong but - @ 7:55 at the video on page 3 of the instructions, paragraph 3 it said to put your CLS in After the regular fire have completely gone out & to place it on the hot embers. It also said DO NOT USE ON ACTIVE FIREs with open flames… Just going off of what the instructions said… I know and can see that it did work inside the pipes as you showed us but do you think it might even work better if you do put it on the hot embers…? Just wondering why, they tell you to use hot embers and not open flames… Great experiment...!

    • @post10Vlogs
      @post10Vlogs  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a tiny stove and it's really hard to get Embers that will stay hot for a long amount of time so that's why this test couldn't be perfect. The reason you're supposed to do it without Flames I believe is because it supposed to smoke and the smoke would leave another residue just like the creosote over it to help deteriorate it

    When I was in the army we had gas fueled potbelly stoves. To clean the pipes after use in the field one of the best way to clean the pipes was to but some sand/dirt in it anything that could be slightly abrasive and shake the pile with your hands covering the ends and it cleaned it like a champ.

  • @EnderMalcolm

    Since you've been doing a lot of stove stuff lately, I've got a question. My current place of residence has forced air heat, and a propane fireplace. However, the unfinished section of the basement only has a tiny air vent and a wood stove. The stove itself will put out a lot of heat, but it drafts poorly. Any suggestions/tips for getting a good draft? It's really a pain to have all that smoke pour out of the stove when you're trying to load wood. And there's poor ventilation down there, so it's hard to get that smoke out.
    My father wants to replace it with one of those open flame propane heaters, and that's just making me facepalm due to the terrible ventilation in that space.

    • @terramarini6880
      @terramarini6880 ปีที่แล้ว

      Make sure it has a fresh air intake (mine is piped up from the crawlspace) and also ensure it's hooked up to the right size chimney pipe, wrong size could be the cause as well. Check if there is a pull out ash pan on the stand/foot/pedestal?, when that gets full or is closed it interferes with air draw (my fresh air intake terminates under there and is where you might find it if it exists on yours).

    • @post10Vlogs
      @post10Vlogs  ปีที่แล้ว

      As the other commenter said has a cold air intake, it's not always easy to build one of those so you can just crack a window when you're starting a fire and it may help. I have been heating with wood now consistently for about three and a half months and I only lit the fire four times it runs almost Non-Stop and I always get smoke in the room. Not a big deal I just open the window to let it go out to put you may not have a window. The stove company said I could try using a blowtorch to heat the flue to get it to start sucking air or make a really big pile of dry kindling and light it on fire with the door cracked while you monitor it for awhile

  • @mesauer
    @mesauer ปีที่แล้ว +1

    A quick comment.
    Your stove pipe is assembled incorrectly!!!
    This is CRITICAL!!!
    The crimped (tapered end) pipe must always be down. This is a basic requirement that your stove/pipe supplier should have shared with you.
    You can get a collar to put on top of stove that hides the crimp, it isn’t necessary but helps with aesthetics.
    Any solid fuel chimney must ALWAYS be assembled so if a chimney fire occurs, or if you get wet creosote, the pipe funnels the liquid back INSIDE the stove. You can see the reason when you have flammable liquid running over top of your stove.
    You were lucky this time, and didn’t die from a fire. But PLEASE get pipe properly installed, it will save your life.
    If your local stove store doesn’t agree, and help you with necessary parts information, FIND ANOTHER SUPPLIER!!!
    I am dead serious about this!!!
    ALL pipe must be crimp towards the stove, not just the one immediately above the stove.
    You might do a separate video discussing this CRITICAL installation requirement!!! Anyone with a chimney assembled crimp end up is living with a ticking time bomb!!!

    • @post10Vlogs
      @post10Vlogs  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As long as you clean your chimney every year and the pine is properly seasoned there is not a problem. Any wood that is not properly seasoned can cause creosote buildup not just Pine. Pine seasons in only 6 months but most people assume they can just go and burn that but a lot of times the sap under the bark will take a few years and that's why I let it sit for a long time. The tree builds up reserves of sap in the form of little bubbles along the bark in preparation of drought and they take years to dry
