I was born in 1953 and my grandmother was in love with this stuff even then . When I was growing up , it was even in restaurants in my home town . According to the recipe my Mom and GrandMa used , it had veal , pork and chicken in it . Of course we can't afford that old gourmet version any more . Thanks for you recipe!
I love this! I've been trying to recreate the chop suey I love to order and I just didn't have a good idea of a basic recipe. I can see myself adding cashews and additional vegetables to make this really delicious. Thank you so much! I'm glad I found your Channel.
SAME!!
WAKE UP!
Why you leave the chicken on the table?
Sounds great, lookin forward to it!!!
I recently tried this recipe because my boyfriend's favorite dish at a Chinese restaurant is chop suey and I wanted to try to make it myself. I made a few changes to make it a healthier version and also carb-free. NO cornstarch! Yes, you will get that traditional Chinese "gelatinus" sauce by adding it but it's not necessary. I also only used a TINY bit of sesame oil, no other oil in the pan. I still used some chicken broth in the recipe and let it naturally cook down a bit in the end. I served it over asian-seasoned cauliflower rice instead of rice or noodles. Walla! you have a tasty, carb-free, healthy version of this dish! My family loved it and said it had the same flavors their used to at a Chinese restaurant:) Thank you for the recipe Wolfepit!!
You add so little cornstarch that I can't see how that would be a problem if you are reducing Refined carbohydrates. BTW, I'm an RD.
Looks Delicious . I would not have thought of adding the bok choy, great idea!
I made this for lunch today. It was easy and quite good and not dissimilar to the chop suey served at the closest Chinese restaurant. One suggestion: try toasted sesame oil for extra flavor instead of regular vegetable oil
Yum! Have tried this a couple times now. Fun, easy, healthy , tasty!
Thnk you for the delicious recipe
Another great recipe! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you Paul!
Thank you so much for your recipe.
Looks easy and delicious!

Thank you, please let me know how you like it!
Ya know, it's funny but I never noticed how healthy chinese food can be when you make it at home without all the sugar and fillers. Looks great, Larry!
Yes and some can be simply boiled without any oil and still be just as delicious! Thanks Justin!
I've read coconut oil is good and it's actually GOOD for you (Except for the calories, of course.)
It is good and good for you, only problem is it imparts a coconut flavor which is great with some dishes, but not all!
no SOAD... get outta here 😂
Made this dish last evening and it turned out delicious! Who knew!? :-)
Thank you kindly for a tasty recipe.
Simple and delicious
Looks scrumptious!! 👍😎👍😎
Looks delicious!
Thanks Jim!

Thank you very much Peelynn!
Hot and Sour Soup has always been my favorite. Can you do a video on that?
Yes! I've been looking into hot and sour soup for a while! It's on my to do list! Thanks Mark!
I could eat Chinese food every day! Would love to learn how to make old style Chicken Almond Ding!
Larry, I can't find fresh bean sprouts either! They always tell me that they usually have them but are OUT! Your American chop sued looks luscious, and best of all, it's fairly low carb! I love this recipe! I need to make it! Thanks so much!
Yeah I am not sure why they are so hard to keep in stock in the stores that do carry them. One store here simply does not carry them fresh at all! Thanks for watching John!
My goodness you told them to make it their own and you still got thumbs down what do you have to do great recipe to me with great advice. Keep doing what you do my friend its tops!
Delicious Chinese Dish Larry!!
Thank you Ellen!
Looks like it taste great!
Thank you Siri!
THANK YOU 😊❤️
I love watching your videos I never miss a one
And I can't tell you how much I truly appreciate it Alisa!!! Thank you!
Excellent!!!
Hi, Larry. That chop suey looks fantastic. How do you manage to perfect many recipes without ruining the flavor? Have a good day, Larry.
Thank you Byron! Trust me there are a LOT of recipes that don't make the cut that i mess up! LOL
Delicious
Yep, folks a little tip, for a good wok using cast iron, place skillet in a preheated oven at 450-500 F for 1/2 hr. It will be screaming hot, do not forget pot holders or oven glove for entire cooking process even on stove top. Cast jron js a poor conductor of heat but great retainer of heat. You will have cool spots if you use only on stove top without oven heat. Worms great as wok after that.
Love your channel!
Looks so good!
Thanks David!
Many of the Chinese food in America that does not exist in China do exist in the Philippines (beef brocoli, chopsuey, egg rolls, Chowmien noodles cooked in American style, orange chicken....etc.)
It looks good
Great little vid.
Thanks for posting this, it looks delicious!!
You can grow your own bean sprouts. Takes about a week. Easy and fun 😊
Yum! Good to see someone who knows how to treat bok choy, i.e., to cut the tough stem from the leaves and cook them separately. I'd like to see you make bow (steamed Chinese dumplings). :)
Thank you Jeanette, definitely gotta cook them differently! Wow these steamed Chinese dumplings look fantastic! I've added them to my list!!
I think you have done a great job, don,t listen to idiots who has nothing good to do but complain about every thing, i make Chop Suey all the time and yours is even better then mine ,thank you

Ohhh wrong video
Lol, thx
If you like a lot of crunchy texture to your dish, drain and add a can of whole water chestnuts at the end just to warm up.
Looks very nice
For other parts of the globe
Instead of wok you may use frying pan
green onions - spring onions
snow peas - mange tout
buck choy I believe is a kind of Chinese cabbage, so maybe some regular cabbage or spinach
I guess also soy sauce could be used in place of oyster sauce for variation on taste.
By the time I buy all the ingedients I can go and get a take out order thanks good recipe
Looking good!
winner winner, I love Chinese dishes of any sort, the bok choy always makes the dish for me
Bok choy and bean sprouts for me Don! Love it! Thanks for watching!
I will try this dish today only
I really enjoyed
Looks delish Larry! I can actually only find fresh sprouts here...but they are too expensive for me, lol. But I might have to save some money to try this recipe out! :-D
How poor are You?? 🙄
I enjoy your recipes. I would like for you to find the recipe and cook a dish that we used to have at a chinese restaurant that went out of business. It was crispy fried chicken wings that were separated and then had a sweet honey garlic glaze on them. We have not been able to find another place that makes them like that. Similar to sesame wings but not quite.
Oh lord..Chop Suey was the only reason we went to the Chinese Restaurant in Akron...that, or buying the canned version /LaChoy....I know TMI...
I love your video/recipe...I had to figure it out by myself, back in the day
Oh Judith I remember when I was a kid in the 70's canned chow mein and chop suey were eaten often in my house and they were delicious. However, I tried one and did a video on chow mein recently and it's awful nowadays!

Thank you very much for watching!
Have you ever made coconut shrimp? My fav buffet started making coconut chicken. I would love to see you make that.
Looks tasty!
Larry can you do the American chop suey version? that quick clip in the beginning looked right up my alley!!
Warren Bickmeyer yes I've already done it and the video is done I just need to edit it so it will be up fairly soon
I use tapioca starch for my thickening agent. It leaves the sauce very clear and shiny unlike cornstarch which leaves it cloudy. Those in the baking and pastry industry might be able to fined an item called Clear Gel which is a modified cornstarch that also does not get cloudy.
Interesting, thanks! LOL Thanks for watching!
I don’t care what cornstarch looks like.
This looks like a great recipe. I'm gonna try it!
Sounds good.
This dish was popular in Chinatowns back in the early to mid 20th Century, In the 1940s this dish was to be found everywhere from New York to San Francisco.
Thanks man
I like this recipe. I just made it. I’m going to have it for dinner. I do wish I’d been able to find a written recipe on your website. Maybe I’m just not very good at that but I couldn’t do it. Thanks, anyway.
very nice way you show how to cook a chop suey.
Thanks Danny!
great job!
Thank you Oscar!
So funny when you said no fresh bean sprouts in your area. There is a strong Asian community in my city in New Zealand 🇳🇿 and bean sprouts and bok choy is everywhere!
Thanks for the recipe, I'll try it this week!
Yum
I would love to see your take on Singapore Mai Fun (rice noodles).
I have added this to my to do list John!! Thank you!

Hello, thanks for this recipe. Is it possible to make BabiPangang?
Dang Larry! now I'm craving Chop Suey. LOL

I think you meant "Late 19th century" Not 20th which would be around 1980.
That looks really good!
Looks great. How do you make oyster sauce?
over here in Canada chop suey is celery with bean sprouts and carrots cooked
Your background music sounds like Mortal Kombat 2 background music. Just saying.
look good
Thanks Joseph!
First try, and wow was it great. Tip: Chop your veggies FIRST!
In my small home town, the Chinese restaurants made egg rolls that were puffy and included BBQ pork, bean sprouts and some type of curry flavor among other ingredients. It is rare that I come across them in any Chinese restaurant these days. Could you possibly make something like that?
awesome Larry. how about crab Ragoon. egg foo young.
I actually have done both of these Mike! However my crab rangoons need some work from a visual perspective, but still tasted great! That's definitely a video I need to redo!

ZAMN!
My mother made chop suey in the 1960's. Was not a whole different that Sweet and Sour Pork. Both were served over white rice.
Can I add normal vinegar instead of rice vinegar?
