In the Old Testament, sacrifices were offered to cover sins. They had to be offered continually to satisfy the law. Then came Jesus. Jesus sacrificed himself on the cross to atone for our sins. He was the ultimate sacrificial lamb, and his offering of himself was perfect the one time - once and for all.
