I've long had an abiding interest in human history, and just find it easier to understand important thinkers from the past by understanding the world they lived in. I also think it helps us to recognize that we too are part of an historical context and the things we often take for granted will not be so for those in the future. In short, it helps us to be more objective in our own journey.
