Pradhanmantri is a really good series and I would in fact recommend it to everyone who's reading this comment. However, it would itself be not sufficient. When you start reading a book you'd realize that it is very easy for you to imagine and understand things because you've seen it on TV. So that ways the serial will be really helpful. But a textbook is needed because ours is a very academic exam.
Class notes from any institute will be good but not sufficient. However, the so called yellow books are pretty decent. The history yellow books are in fact a summary of the old NCERTs. So if you really want you can read them too. But a textbook is a textbook.
