Mr Sunnybass, when I first began working with this track i was like why the FUCK is it so slow? All the bands I have played this with, and all the jam sessions, and even the other play-along tracks, do it as a crisp uptempo. But then I started really working with this track, and now I have to say your choice of tempo on this one is brilliant. It’s kind of like the way joe pass does joy spring slower than everybody else: it lets him build a really simmering solo that demands a lot of control and patience, and when he finally kicks it into high gear, it’s awesome because the tempo is not too fast to play burning sixteenth notes over long passages. Sixteenth notes at this tempo is close to the limit of my ability to improvise, so I truly appreciate this. Any faster and I’d have to resort to 8th note triplets (which always feels kind of lame for longer lines). Anyway, thanks! This one is super cool once you get into it. I find i can also improvise some nice ideas in the margins of the melody at this slower tempo, which is a lot of fun. One question: what’s up with the white upright you play on this one? Pretty slick. Do you have a white tuxedo to match? Thanks Mr SunnyB.
